  • Thorn

    Thorn by Intisar Khanani

Thorn by Intisar Khanani is $2.99! I believe this falls more into YA than adult fantasy, but please correct me if I’m wrong. We don’t have a review of this one up, but it has the Sneezy stamp of approval. She’s mentioned it several times on site and I believe read it before it was picked up by a traditional publisher.

A princess with two futures. A destiny all her own

Between her cruel family and the contempt she faces at court, Princess Alyrra has always longed to escape the confines of her royal life. But when she’s betrothed to the powerful prince Kestrin, Alyrra embarks on a journey to his land with little hope for a better future.

When a mysterious and terrifying sorceress robs Alyrra of both her identity and her role as princess, Alyrra seizes the opportunity to start a new life for herself as a goose girl.

But Alyrra soon finds that Kestrin is not what she expected. The more Alyrra learns of this new kingdom, the pain and suffering its people endure, as well as the danger facing Kestrin from the sorceress herself, the more she knows she can’t remain the goose girl forever.

With the fate of the kingdom at stake, Alyrra is caught between two worlds and ultimately must decide who she is, and what she stands for.

  • Let’s Talk About Love

Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann

RECOMMENDEDLet’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann is $2.99! It has an asexual heroine and Carrie gave the book a B+:

This book does a great job of discussing asexuality and different forms it can take, as well as other common problems that students have. There is an appropriate amount of ramen. The romance is very sweet.

Striking a perfect balance between heartfelt emotions and spot-on humor, this debut features a pop-culture enthusiast protagonist with an unforgettable voice sure to resonate with readers.

Alice had her whole summer planned. Nonstop all-you-can-eat buffets while marathoning her favorite TV shows (best friends totally included) with the smallest dash of adulting—working at the library to pay her share of the rent. The only thing missing from her perfect plan? Her girlfriend (who ended things when Alice confessed she’s asexual). Alice is done with dating—no thank you, do not pass go, stick a fork in her, done.

But then Alice meets Takumi and she can’t stop thinking about him or the rom com-grade romance feels she did not ask for (uncertainty, butterflies, and swoons, oh my!).

When her blissful summer takes an unexpected turn and Takumi becomes her knight with a shiny library-employee badge (close enough), Alice has to decide if she’s willing to risk their friendship for a love that might not be reciprocated—or understood.

Claire Kann’s debut novel Let’s Talk About Love, chosen by readers like you for Macmillan’s young adult imprint Swoon Reads, gracefully explores the struggle with emerging adulthood and the complicated line between friendship and what it might mean to be something more.

  • His Perfect Partner

His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras

His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras is 99c! This contemporary romance features a single dad hero and a dance teacher heroine. Sonali Dev recommended this on a previous podcast episode. She did mention that at times, the book felt more like women’s fiction with a focus on family than a romance.

Three very different Latina sisters. Three dazzling talents with ambition—and passion—to burn. And in this warm-hearted, sexy new series, three chances to figure out if the path to success can also lead to lasting love . . .

Ad executive Tomás Garcia shouldn’t even be thinking about his daughter’s alluring dance teacher, Yazmine Fernandez. Burned by a shattering divorce, he’s laser-focused on his career—and giving his young daughter, Maria, the secure home she deserves. Plus, he’s certain that with her talent, Yaz will be leaving Chicago and heading back to Broadway as soon as she can. But Yaz’s generous spirit and caring concern are sparking a desire Tomás can’t resist—and doesn’t want to let go . . .

For Yaz, good-looking workaholics like Tomás simply can’t be part of her life ever again. She owes it to herself to get back her confidence and fulfill the dreams her papá could not. She’s glad to spend time with Maria—and taste the family life she feels she can never have. And she’s sure that she and Tomás can keep their attraction under control because there’s so much at stake. But each unexpected intimacy, each self-revelation, makes the fire between them grow hotter with every step—and every risk to their hearts . . .

  • The Most Dangerous Duke in London

The Most Dangerous Duke in London by Madeline Hunter

The Most Dangerous Duke in London by Madeline Hunter is $1.99! This is book one in the Decadent Dukes Society series. The hero wants revenge and the heroine just wants to go about publishing her women’s journal. Readers like the enemies to lovers aspect of the romance, but others wouldn’t recommend this one on audio as the narrator didn’t fit for them.

Three sinfully handsome dukes, three scores to settle, three hearts about to meet their matches. All in one thrilling new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Madeline Hunter . . .

    NOTORIOUS NOBLEMAN SEEKS REVENGE
Name and title: Adam Penrose, Duke of Stratton.
Affiliation: London’s elite Society of Decadent Dukes.
    Family history: Scandalous.
Personality traits: Dark and brooding, with a thirst for revenge.
Ideal romantic partner: A woman of means, with beauty and brains, willing to live with reckless abandon.
Desire: Clara Cheswick, gorgeous daughter of his family’s sworn enemy.

FAINT OF HEART NEED NOT APPLY
Clara may be the woman Adam wants, but there’s one problem: she’s far more interested in publishing her women’s journal than getting married—especially to a man said to be dead-set on vengeance. Though, with her nose for a story, Clara wonders if his desire for justice is sincere—along with his incredibly unnerving intention to be her husband. If her weak-kneed response to his kiss is any indication, falling for Adam clearly comes with a cost. But who knew courting danger could be such exhilarating fun?

Theres a perfectly lovely discussion around ace rep I came across after reading the linked review for Let’s Talk About Love and clicking on tags. Its in the comments section for another book, Blank Spaces, here: https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews/blank-spaces-cass-lennox/

Just another reminder to me about how much I love this site.

The absolutely superb “The Merciful Crow” by Margaret Owen is on sale for $2.99 at Amazon. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a great, ragingly feminist fantasy YA with a really unique set up and world. It’s got a similar energy to Six of Crows well-being very much its own thing and concept, but anyone who likes the Grishaverse books should like this one. I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am for the next book, “The Faithless Hawk”, which comes out in late July.

Also, bonus points for just a really awesome cover.

  3. Lisa F says:

Man, I loved all four of these! Beautifully written all around!

  4. Emily B says:

I love the new cover for the Oliveras, but unfortunately the book fell flat for me. Too much telling, not enough showing.

CW for Thorn. No dogs, but the horse doesn’t make it.
