    Stripped by Zoey Castile

Stripped by Zoey Castile is 99c! This is the first book in the Happy Endings series. I read this one and gave it a B grade:

Stripped is an uncomplicated romance between two goofy, sexy people. It has a sweetness to it that’s reminiscent of a contemporary friends to lovers trope. If that hits all of your buttons, do read this!

Skilled, sculpted, and sexy, the men of adult entertainment are the kind of guys a woman reserves for her fantasies not her reality. But is there more to these professional hotties than meets the eye? . . .

The day Robyn Flores meets Zac Fallon is one of those days. You know, when you’re already late for work. Mostly because you haven’t really slept since your best friend abandoned you for her fiancé and her exponentially better life. The kind of day you drag yourself to the cleaners to pick up your laundry, only to discover you’ve got the wrong bag—Star Spangled sequined thong, anyone? So Robyn is definitely not ready for the ridiculously gorgeous guy at her front door, except that they have each other’s clothes. But then, is any woman ever ready to meet the love of her life?

There’s just one problem: Zac Fallon is not the love of Robyn’s life. Zac knows, despite the
all-too-intimate dinner they share, he doesn’t have a shot at her. Because the next time Zac sees Robyn, he’s front and center of the male revue headlining her best friend’s bachelorette party. So much for wooing the pretty schoolteacher, much less her impressing her old-fashioned family, with his upstanding lifestyle. Now he’s only got one way to win his dream girl. It’s gonna be the steamiest, most irresistible seduction she’s ever seen. And this time it will be no act . . .

  • Just One Damned Thing After Another

Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor

RECOMMENDEDJust One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor is 99c! It also looks like it had a cover redesign. Redheadedgirl recently read this one and gave it a B:

If you’re a fan of Connie Willis, I would suggest you give this series a try. It doesn’t take itself quite so seriously, and Max as a heroine and audience surrogate is a lot of fun. It’s potentially a commitment, given that there are 9 books and a bunch of novellas, but I’m looking forward to making a dent in my TBR pile to read the next book.

“History is just one damned thing after another” – Arnold Toynbee

A madcap new slant on history that seems to be everyone’s cup of tea…

Behind the seemingly innocuous façade of St Mary’s, a different kind of historical research is taking place. They don’t do ‘time-travel’ – they ‘investigate major historical events in contemporary time’. Maintaining the appearance of harmless eccentrics is not always within their power – especially given their propensity for causing loud explosions when things get too quiet.

Meet the disaster-magnets of St Mary’s Institute of Historical Research as they ricochet around History. Their aim is to observe and document – to try and find the answers to many of History’s unanswered questions…and not to die in the process.

But one wrong move and History will fight back – to the death. And, as they soon discover – it’s not just History they’re fighting.

Follow the catastrophe curve from eleventh-century London to World War I, and from the Cretaceous Period to the destruction of the Great Library at Alexandria. For wherever Historians go, chaos is sure to follow in their wake…

  • Happy Trail

    Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott

Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott is 99c at Amazon! This is part of the Smartypants Romance publishing imprint, which is essentially books set in the world Penny Reid created. Sure, I guess. This one has a lot of my catnip: a grumpy hero and forced proximity. Have you read this or any other Smartypants titles?

A man of few words, Ranger Jay Daniels values the calm, quiet solitude of the Great Smoky Mountains. Never quite fitting in with either side of his family, he prefers the company of birds and trees to people.

Yeah, he’d most definitely prefer a bird—any bird, any bird at all, take a vulture for instance—to the human-tornado hybrid that just blew onto his peaceful stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

The path of true love never has run smooth for Olive Perry. After getting dumped and promptly abandoned in the middle of her multi-month hike, Olive swears off men. Determined to finish the long trek by herself, she doesn’t need a prince—or broody and taciturn ranger—to save her.

Yet, when an early snowstorm threatens the mountains, and Ranger Daniels is charged with getting hikers to safety, that includes hot-tempered Olive Perry. Snowed in and forced to share an abandoned cabin, can Olive’s heated intensity melt Jay’s cool reserve?

And if so, will this happy trail lead to true love? Or will their time together be just another bump in the road?

  • Soul of Sin

Soul of Sin by Tracy Cooper-Posey

Soul of Sin by Tracy Cooper-Posey is 99c at Amazon! This is the first book in the Scandalous Scions series, which is a spin-off of one of Cooper-Posey’s other series. The description is rather sparse, but I’m getting the hint that the heroine is a widow who truly loved her late husband. And Goodreads reviews mentioned the heroine is older than the hero!

    Two broken hearts.

Lady Natasha Innesford, four years a widow, still cannot stir herself to live. Her life died with Seth.

Lord Raymond Marblethorpe, oldest son of Lady Elisa Farleigh, has loved the mysterious Susanna forever, but she can never be his.

Can they learn to let go of the past and love again?

  1. Laurie says:

Loved Happy Trail! A nice romance, with a healthy dash of an ornithology lesson against the backdrop of the Appalachian Trail.

  2. Rhiannon K says:

Happy Trail is my favorite by far/so far among the Smartypants collection (I’ve read four or five of them), I liked the level of detail and the characters, I listened to the audiobook on a work road trip. Ranger Daniels is Japanese American – the reference to “sides of his family”. I picked up the next in the Ranger series also by Daisy Prescott but haven’t read it yet.

  3. Susan says:

Man, I looove Jodi Taylor’s Chronicles of St. Mary’s series. I realize it might not be to everyone’s taste but history buffs, especially, should give it a try. The books are very humorous, but there’s also a lot of heartache, so just be forewarned about that going in. In addition to reading all of the books and short stories, I’ve also listened to the audiobooks, which I highly recommend. (Go in order, btw.)

There is now a spin-off series to the St. Mary’s books. I was really worried that it wouldn’t stand up to the initial series, but I was not disappointed.

The Elizabeth Cage series is unrelated to these two, but is also good. Only two books so far.

(OK, my cheerleading is done for the day. 🙂 (

  4. Jazzlet says:

I think the St mary’s book needs a CW, I was totally unprepared for

    **SPOILER**

    **WHOPPING GREAT BIG SPOILER**

the miscarriage, and have been unable to pick up any more of the books as it hit too close for anything but distress. I know it isn’t played lightly, but still.

  5. Leigh Kramer says:

Me and White Supremacy is on sale for $2.99 for anyone looking for antiracism resources.

  6. MaryK says:

I hate when book descriptions don’t describe the plot. “There’s one character and another character. Enjoy reading about them.” Ugh.

  7. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@MaryK: I call it the “emo blurb” and it seems to be extremely popular with N/A romances. It’s always something like:

“He was my all, my everything. But I had to leave him.”

“She doesn’t know what really happened that night.”

“Now I’m back, but I can’t let him know the truth.”

“I’ll do whatever it takes to win her back.”

I mean that could be used to blurb a thousand books—and no inkling of the plot!

  8. taffygrrl says:

When people pitched the Jodi Taylor book, I was expecting something that was more Willis’s “To Say Nothing of the Dog,” but instead got something that was like a grimmer and more violent “Doomsday Book,” with occasional quippiness. I wanted to throw this warning out there because I went in looking for escapism and came out sad and depressed.

  9. Darlynne says:

@Leigh Kramer: I participated in Layla F. Saad’s first Instagram ME AND WHITE SUPREMACY seminar and it was the best/hardest thing I’ve done. Anyone looking to become/be more anti-racist and a good ally would benefit from this book. She challenges us to look deeper, to examine, to listen and I found it life-changing. Thank you for mentioning the sale.

  10. Lisa F says:

    I love the Castille series.

  11. Betty says:

Happy Trail is wonderful. The next book in the series, Stranger Danger, is even better and is by the same author.
