  • A Girl Like Her

A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert

A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert is 99c at Amazon! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and isn’t being price-matched just yet. This is the first book in the Ravenswood series. The book description has a content warning, as there are mentions of past domestic violence. Readers loved the grumpy, prickly heroine, which is totally my catnip. However, others mentioned having difficulties connecting with the characters.

Everyone has secrets. He wants all of hers.

    Meet the man next door…

After years of military service, Evan Miller wants a quiet life. The small town of Ravenswood seems perfect—until he stumbles upon a vicious web of lies with his new neighbour at its centre.

Ruth Kabbah is rude, awkward, and, according to everyone in town, bad news. Thing is, no-one will tell Evan why. Does she perform ritual sacrifices? Howl at the moon? Pour the milk before the tea? He has no clue.

But he desperately wants to find out. Because Ruth doesn’t seem evil to him; she seems lonely. And funny, and clumsy, and secretly quite sweet, and really f*%king beautiful…

The more Evan’s isolated, eccentric neighbour pushes him away, the more he wants her. Her—and all her secrets. Because there’s no way a girl like Ruth truly deserves the town’s scorn.

    … Is there?

  • Shades of Wicked

Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost

Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost is $2.99! This is the first book in the Night Rebel series, which is a spin-off of Frost’s Night Huntress series. I read this one and I found it to be a lot of fun. The opening scene is quite…memorable. However, as someone who never got into the Night Huntress series, I’ll admit there’s a learning curve with understanding the world-building. I also made a cocktail for this one!

In this thrilling new Night Rebel series set in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, sexy and ruthless vampire Ian finally meets his match!

    The Rule Breaker

Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless…and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with a Law Guardian, but he’s never been able to abide by the rules for long.

    The Law Maker

Veritas’ normal role is police, judge and jury to reprobates like Ian. But she has her own ax to grind with Dagon, so if she can use Ian as bait…well, all’s fair in law and war. As they scour supernatural hotspots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s devil-may-care, roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers that Veritas has shocking secrets of her own. As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences…

  • Brightly Burning

    Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne

Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne is $2.99! This is a YA novel that’s described as “Jane Eyre in space.” Hello! Some readers say this book gave them all the feels, while others either didn’t understand or didn’t enjoy the world building. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

Seventeen-year-old Stella Ainsley wants just one thing: to go somewhere—anywhere—else. Her home is a floundering spaceship that offers few prospects, having been orbiting an ice-encased Earth for two hundred years. When a private ship hires her as a governess, Stella jumps at the chance. The captain of the Rochester, nineteen-year-old Hugo Fairfax, is notorious throughout the fleet for being a moody recluse and a drunk. But with Stella he’s kind.

But the Rochester harbors secrets: Stella is certain someone is trying to kill Hugo, and the more she discovers, the more questions she has about his role in a conspiracy threatening the fleet.

Alexa Donne’s lush and enthralling reimagining of the classic Jane Eyre, set among the stars, will seduce and beguile you.

  • The Bourbon Thief

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz

The Bourbon Thief by Tiffany Reisz is $2.99! This has been on my TBR for a while, but I haven’t pulled the trigger on reading it yet. Readers loved the mystery and all the twists and secrets to this book. However, others found the ending a bit anticlimactic after all the build up. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

From the internationally celebrated author of the Original Sinners series comes a brand-new tale of betrayal, revenge and a family scandal that bore a 150-year-old mystery

When Cooper McQueen wakes up from a night with a beautiful stranger, it’s to discover he’s been robbed. The only item stolen—a million-dollar bottle of bourbon. The thief, a mysterious woman named Paris, claims the bottle is rightfully hers. After all, the label itself says it’s property of the Maddox family who owned and operated Red Thread Bourbon distillery since the last days of the Civil War until the company went out of business for reasons no one knows…no one except Paris.

In the small hours of a Louisville morning, Paris unspools the lurid tale of Tamara Maddox, heiress to the distillery that became an empire. But the family tree is rooted in tainted soil and has borne rotten fruit. Theirs is a legacy of wealth and power, but also of lies, secrets and sins of omission. The Maddoxes have bourbon in their blood—and blood in their bourbon. Why Paris wants the bottle of Red Thread remains a secret until the truth of her identity is at last revealed, and the century-old vengeance Tamara vowed against her family can finally be completed.

Also, not a romance, but Octavia E. Butler’s Xenogenesis trilogy is 2.99

I was about to buy Brightly Burning until I read in one of the reviews about – SPOILER – a viral pandemic plot thread. No thanks.

  3. Lisa F says:

A Girl Like Her is amazing and what got me into Talia Hibbert’s writing!

  4. hng23 says:

I enjoyed The Bourbon Thieves. It has a real Southern Gothic vibe to it.

  5. hng23 says:

    Bourbon *Thief*.
I should never try typing & looking out the window at the same time. Sigh.

  6. Liz says:

I just read the first two Night Rebel books in the last couple of days (library copies). Now I need to decide if I want to buy this one…. Can’t wait for the third book!

  7. Sandra says:

The captain of the Rochester, nineteen-year-old Hugo Fairfax, is notorious throughout the fleet for being a moody recluse and a drunk.

Starting awfully young, isn’t he? I could see the emo teen, but by age 19 I would hope he had grown out of it.

  8. kt says:

Yup, I loved A Girl Like Her and loved Ruth! I really thought she was delightful, though I’ve recently learned that I have a thing for heroines who are angry about sh&*^y things and aren’t censored or shamed by the author for being so. I guess that’s one reason I’ve enjoyed the new Netflix series Never Have I Ever, as well 🙂

  9. Cristie says:

A Girl Like Her was my first Talia Hibbert and immediately earned her a spot on my autobuy list.
