Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Old Skool Time Travel

This HaBO request is from Shayna, who is hoping to find the first romance they ever read:

The very first romance I ever read was in the 1970s.

I don’t remember much, but it had something to do with a modern woman who time traveled back in time (accidentally) and the people she encountered were trying to persecute her as a witch. I don’t remember anything about the love interest.

I think the title was three words along the lines of “Love’s [something something].”

I have no idea how good or bad this book was because I was pretty young when I read it, but I do remember that it was definitely not a YA novel and it had a typical Fabio-ish romance novel cover.

I definitely laughed at “Love’s Something Something.”

I had a big grin at the “Love’s something something” because that is what I called all the romance books my mom read back in the 70s. As in “Hey Mom, Auntie is here with a big bag of “Love’s Something Something” books for you. Do you have any “Love’s Something Something” books for her?”

  2. Kate says:

I have no idea which book that is, but time travel was my catnip for a long time and I bookmarked this exhaustive list which may be of help:

The Ladies of Lallybroch have a tome travel reading list: http://www.lallybroch.com/LOL/library.html

  4. Does the HABO remember the time period or setting? Medieval? England or Scotland or something else? And perhaps whether they stayed in past or came back to present together?

    Any clues?

Something tells me it’s “all of the above”, aka the Generic Old Days.

And speaking of the Ladies of Lallybroch, are you sure it wasn’t, in fact, Outlander, Shayna? Claire is taken for a witch, and some of the covers were amusingly titillating. It didn’t come out until the 90s, but I confuse when I read things all the time.

  7. Shayna says:

Hi Margaret. It sounds like Outlander, doesn’t it? But it’s not—I’m a big fan of that series. I definitely read this book in the 70s, without a doubt.
