Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: M/M Romance with an Ace Wife

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

This HaBO is from Elizabeth, who is starting to worry this book is just a figment of her imagination:

I am trying to find a book that I read, but only remember a few things. It’s a historic, but I feel like it wasn’t written that long ago.

I think that it’s a M/M romance where one hero has to marry this woman in a marriage in name only. I think she is asexual, but she is attracted to watching the husband have sex with his true love. The more I think about it she might a PoC.

I can’t find it and am starting to think I made it up.

My knowledge of writers of historical romance that are on the sexier side is limited, but this could be a Jenn LeBlanc?

Maybe Her Husband’s Lover by Madelynne Ellis. I remember the heroine is extremely touch-averse and fine with her husband having liasons on the side until the lover shows up and she doesn’t know how to deal with her attraction to him,

  2. Varian says:

I know this one! It’s The Trouble with Grace, by Jenn LeBlanc.

This sounds somewhat like BOUND WITH PASSION by Megan Mulry. Iirc, the heroine isn’t exactly ACE, but instead wants nothing to do with marriage and motherhood—which she sees as a path to oppression—and thanks to her inheritance she has been able to avoid both. But then one of the heroine’s two close male friends (who are also lovers) needs to marry to access his own inheritance, so the heroine agrees to a marriage in name only. But when has “in name only” ever worked in Romancelandia? Even if this is not the book you’re looking for, Mulry writes interesting Regencies with a variety of poly relationships, so it’s worth a look.

It could be Phyllida and the Brotherhood of Philander: A Bisexual Regency Romance by Ann Herendeen

It’s an arranged marriage between a wealthy gay man and a penniless bride. She’s not ace but she does turn out to like watching her husband with his lover. And he surprises himself by being attracted to her. And the three of them end up with an hea. The plot was a bit crazy sauce for my tasee

The Last Kiss by Sally Malcolm has a similar plot, set in the post-World War I time. Hero is in love with a fellow soldier of a lower class, and has to marry a woman to access his money, she wants to do something else. The hero and the woman marry, she goes off to do her thing, and the two men live happily ever after.

Varian!!! It is It’s The Trouble with Grace, by Jenn LeBlanc! Thank you so much!

  8. faellie says:

Surely only the Bitchery could come up with 5 different books all matching that particular plot.

  9. cleo says:

@faellie – I was thinking the same thing. Who knew this was a sub-sub-genre?

  10. Laura says:

This is great! I had no idea there were poly regencies out there! Yay! Thanks everyone 🙂

  11. cleo says:

@Laura – not a regency, but The Threefold Tie by Aster Glenn Grey is a lovely, lovely poly historical novella set in post Civil War America.

  12. Sarah says:

Not a Regency, but anyone who finds this premise intriguing might enjoy Odd-Man Rush by Michaela Grey

  13. DiscoDollyDeb says:

A few months ago, there was a Rec League for m/m/f romances where the men were sexually involved with each other as well as both of them being involved with the woman. There were a lot of really good recommendations:

  14. Molly says:

If you’re looking for mmf Regencies, you might try Samantha Kane’s Brothers in Arms series, about Napoleonic War vets. If I recall correctly, they usually feature a male couple who bring a woman into their relationship. They are all on Amazon, with the most recent book, #14, added in 2019.

  15. Laura says:

Wow! Thank you all for these recommendations!
