This is a historical romance book that I read before the year 2012.
It starts off with the hero and heroine in love, young and engaged. (19/21 years of age) They are already having sexual encounters. They have a place they meet up at on his estate.
Heroine goes there waiting for him, but then a worker from the estate comes on to her and tries kissing her. She starts laughing and giggling because the whole situation seems absurd to her, but when the hero arrives he doesn’t find it funny and just automatically assumes that she has been cheating on him. He walks out and refuses to listen to her. He then leaves. And his mom calls a coach to take her home and the engagement is ended…
Then years later they see each other at a weekend house party, where all the guests are staying there. He’s extremely cold to her, but still attracted to her. There’s a closet scene. I vaguely remember it. He still refuses to listen to her and reminds her that he wants her sexually but she lost her chance at marriage. She doesn’t get to tell him her side of what happened.
Then his mom conspires with another man at the house party to compromise the heroine forever, as she sees that her son is falling back in love with her.
When Hero’s mom tries to expose the heroine with the other man, she or someone else opens a door and yells dramatically….it ends up that it’s the hero and heroine in bed. So it back fired.
I don’t remember the rest. But I’d love to find and read this book again. Please help!

Is this one of the Wallflower books by Lisa Kleypas? Daisy’s book, I think?

It’s not Daisy’s story or any of the other Wallflowers.
Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas? Some of the details are different (it’s the heroine’s dad who makes her break up with the hero because he’s a servant; she convinces him she’s using him to make him leave her; it’s her sister who sees them trysting in the barn and tells the dad; hero goes to America and gets rich, then comes back with a large party of investors who stay at heroine’s house.) But there is a scene where they make love in a closet, and the hero keeps telling her he will use her the way she used him but he will never love her or marry her. The heroine also still keeps her distance because while he was gone she had a terrible accident which left her scarred and she doesn’t want him to know.
I’ve read this or something very similar…shoot going through all my recently reads this week now!
I doubt it’s Again the Magic. There are none of the major elements described in ATM. (Also, the heroine’s burns and B romance in that book are so memorable that it would be surprising if they were absent from even a vague memory of the book.)

Elements of this HaBO sound like Lorraine Heath’s Passions of a Wicked Earl . However, in the book the hero and heroine are married and the misunderstanding with another man is the earl’s brother and it happens on their wedding night. The person in the book conspiring against the couple is the earl’s mistress. I am unsure about a closet scene, I cannot recall it specifically.
Veronica thank you for the suggestion. That’s not the book I was hoping it was a Lorraine Heath book, but it isn’t.
