Links: Dodgeball, Summer Releases, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday already?! When did that happen? Hope you all are doing well as we settle into some links. An update on reviewer applications, we hope to have it all finished up next month. We’re so very excited to have some new voices and even  more romance coverage.

Tor.com has released a big list of their summer releases! Yay for learning about new, upcoming books. However, my TBR pile isn’t as appreciative.

Looking to move to Ireland? The island of Arranmore is seeking Americans and Australians to become part of their community. There’s an emphasis on remote workers (which, hello!) and they’ve even launched a co-working space. However, I’m always unsure of how remote work factors into getting a visa.

Did you know there’s a Ren Faire rom-com series airing on Lifetime? I didn’t either until I saw this on Frolic.Media! I’m considering giving it a watch.

June is Pride month and there are many corporations that engage in “rainbow-washing.” It’s where companies get on the Pride promotional bandwagon for (mostly) the positive PR, but don’t actively support LGBT+ organizations. If you’re looking to support queer-owned business, this BuzzFeed has a list of 30+ products you can buy. Note: Please ignore #29 on the list, as the CEO is abusive.

Sometimes, you just need to watch Michelle Obama demolish James Corden in dodgeball.

..

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Love how inclusive all those photos in the Buzzfeed article were.

Just read this article about Sherrilyn Kenyon this morning and must admit feeling conflicted. Was her husband actually trying to poison/gaslight her? Or is it just a terrible ending to a 28-year marriage? Either way, it’s a very somber story:

That Irish island thing is a romance series waiting to happen.

If somebody would pay my way and guarantee me a job, I’d go in a hot minute. Alas, all the fantastic opportunities are best suited for the financially well to do who don’t need or want them.

That Sherrilyn Kenyon article is…something else. Wow.

Speaking of the Emerald Isle, @Ciaraioch on Twitter gave a shout-out to the Irish Farmer calendar. I hate beards, but apparently if you hold a cute baby animal next to a bearded face, I just attribute the face-fur to the adorable critter and barely even notice it.

(There’s a link to the calendar site in the Bored Panda feature, but the site was down at the time I wrote this, which is why I didn’t link to it directly.)

Thanks for the dodgeball link, LOL.

  6. Speaking of Ren Faire fun, I just read WELL MET by Jen DeLuca coming out in September– and it is a fucking delight. Slow burn romance set in a small town filled with adults who unironically enjoy Ren Faireing it up every summer… yes ma’am. SO charming!

  7. Joy says:

Michelle Obama is my heroine. She’s so smart, sassy and pretty. The
Dodgeball championship is so funny. I don’t know how the UK let Corden leave–he’s a national treasure.

  8. Another Anne says:

With regard to the Ren Faire rom com, it is based on the real life experiences of Jamie Denbo, who is the show creator. She was interviewed within the past week or so by Marc Maron on his podcast. (I listened to the podcast yesterday, but I think it dropped last week). I enjoyed the interview and thought I would check out the show.

    Loved the dodgeball game.
