  • Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows

Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal

RECOMMENDEDErotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal is $1.99! RHG read this one and gave it a B+:

Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows is not a romance first and foremost, though there is a romance plot among the many others. It is, however, a story about women’s self understanding, and turning against the definition and enforcement of their sexuality to discover it for themselves.

A lively, sexy, and thought-provoking East-meets-West story about community, friendship, and women’s lives at all ages—a spicy and alluring mix of Together Tea and Calendar Girls.

    Every woman has a secret life . . .

Nikki lives in cosmopolitan West London, where she tends bar at the local pub. The daughter of Indian immigrants, she’s spent most of her twenty-odd years distancing herself from the traditional Sikh community of her childhood, preferring a more independent (that is, Western) life. When her father’s death leaves the family financially strapped, Nikki, a law school dropout, impulsively takes a job teaching a “creative writing” course at the community center in the beating heart of London’s close-knit Punjabi community.

Because of a miscommunication, the proper Sikh widows who show up are expecting to learn basic English literacy, not the art of short-story writing. When one of the widows finds a book of sexy stories in English and shares it with the class, Nikki realizes that beneath their white dupattas, her students have a wealth of fantasies and memories. Eager to liberate these modest women, she teaches them how to express their untold stories, unleashing creativity of the most unexpected—and exciting—kind.

As more women are drawn to the class, Nikki warns her students to keep their work secret from the Brotherhood, a group of highly conservative young men who have appointed themselves the community’s “moral police.” But when the widows’ gossip offers shocking insights into the death of a young wife—a modern woman like Nikki—and some of the class erotica is shared among friends, it sparks a scandal that threatens them all.

  • The Belles

    The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton is $3.99! We’ve featured this on the site a couple times in Hide Your Wallet and Cover Awe. Readers say this one is a page-turner, though there are reviews that mention a content warning for sexual assault (unsure of whether it’s on the page or not) and the “bury your gays” trope.

Camellia Beauregard is a Belle. In the opulent world of Orléans, Belles are revered, for they control Beauty, and Beauty is a commodity coveted above all else. In Orléans, the people are born gray, they are born damned, and only with the help of a Belle and her talents can they transform and be made beautiful.

But it’s not enough for Camellia to be just a Belle. She wants to be the favorite—the Belle chosen by the Queen of Orléans to live in the royal palace, to tend to the royal family and their court, to be recognized as the most talented Belle in the land. But once Camellia and her Belle sisters arrive at court, it becomes clear that being the favorite is not everything she always dreamed it would be. Behind the gilded palace walls live dark secrets, and Camellia soon learns that the very essence of her existence is a lie—that her powers are far greater, and could be more dangerous, than she ever imagined. And when the queen asks Camellia to risk her own life and help the ailing princess by using Belle powers in unintended ways, Camellia now faces an impossible decision.

With the future of Orléans and its people at stake, Camellia must decide—save herself and her sisters and the way of the Belles—or resuscitate the princess, risk her own life, and change the ways of her world forever.

  • Idol

    Idol by Kristen Callihan

Idol by Kristen Callihan is $1.99 at Amazon! It’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, of which there are other romances and some YA fantasy. I read this one and had mixed feelings. I’ve loved many of Callihan’s other books, but this one was pretty melodramatic. Lots of emotional whiplash. However, it does have an A Star is Born feel to it, now that I think about it.

    Libby

I found Killian drunk and sprawled out on my lawn like some lost prince. With the face of a god and the arrogance to match, the pest won’t leave. Sexy, charming, and just a little bit dirty, he’s slowly wearing me down, making me crave more.

He could be mine if I dare to claim him. Problem is, the world thinks he’s theirs. How do you keep an idol when everyone is intent on taking him away?

    Killian

As lead singer for the biggest rock band in the world, I lived a life of dreams. It all fell apart with one fateful decision. Now everything is in shambles.

Until Liberty. She’s grouchy, a recluse —and kind of cute. Scratch that. When I get my hands on her, she is scorching hot and more addictive than all the fans who’ve screamed my name.

The world is clamoring for me to get back on stage, but I’m not willing to leave her. I’ve got to find a way to coax the hermit from her shell and keep her with me. Because, with Libby, everything has changed. Everything.

  • Prime Minister

    Prime Minister by Ainsley Booth

Prime Minister by Ainsley Booth and Sadie Haller is $2.99! This is a contemporary erotic romance with BDSM. It’s also part of the Frisky Beavers series (hehe). Some readers expressed difficulties connecting with the heroine, but many found this book to be hot and pretty fun! Anyone interested?

Gavin: Ellie Montague is smart, sensitive, and so gorgeous it hurts to look at her. She’s also an intern in my office. The office of the Prime Minister of Canada.*

    That’s me. The PM.

She calls me that because when she calls me Sir, I get hard and she gets flustered, and as long as she’s my intern, I can’t twist my hands in her strawberry-blonde hair and show her what else I’d like her to do with that pretty pink mouth.**

Ellie: How much I like the PM varies on a daily basis. He’s intense, controlling, and a perfectionist in every way—and he demands the same of his staff.

How much I want him never wavers.

There’s something about him that tugs at me deep inside, and makes me wish that just once he’d cross the line in a late night work session. I’d take that secret to the grave if it meant I got a taste of the barely restrained beast inside him.***

    FOOTNOTES:
    * This is a fictional erotic romance. No prime ministers or interns were harmed in the making of this book.
** Except it’s a BDSM romance, so they were hurt a little.
*** Spoiler alert: she gets more than a taste. And she likes it.

  1. Ren Benton says:

My Kindle’s snooze screen claims you can get a $5 ebook credit if you spend $20 on ebooks January 22-28. There’s no fine print on that screen and I haven’t investigated further to see if it’s restricted to certain books, but the offer exists if anyone cares to pursue it.

  2. Momo says:

I looked up the final book (it’s part of a series including a Mountie and a hockey player), and CanCon has finally gone too far.

  3. Susan says:

@Ren: According to the text I received, you need to activate the offer (which I belatedly did) and make you purchases of any ebooks between January 22-28.

  4. Tori Puente says:

Not So Nice Guy by R.S. Grey and Sinner by Sierra Simone are 99 cents each.

  5. Tori Puente says:

    *Sorry, on Amazon Kindle

  6. Ren Benton says:

Thanks, Susan. There’s also a banner for the Kindle “spend $20, get $5” between the menu bar and the product details on any ebook page on Amazon, so you can find the activation button that way.

(I couldn’t see any such thing on my tablet earlier because it only serves up the mobile version of Amazon, which is GARBAGE.)

  7. Deianira says:

I read Kristen Callihan’s trilogy last month, & in reverse order; I started with “Fall” (book 3), then “Managed” (book 2) & ended with “Idol”. They don’t suffer from being read in that order, except that I found “Fall” to be the best of the three – perhaps not unusual, as it’s the last to be written & Callihan’s grown as an author. They’re good, but a trigger warning might be needed for that “fateful decision”. (It happens off-screen & before the book opens, but informs the plot. I’d post it, but don’t know how to do the hiding-spoilers thing.)

  8. MaryK says:

Anybody know if Amazon deals like this usually work when paying with a gift card? I have a gift card on my account and I wonder if the deal only works when paying “cash.”

  9. JetGirl says:

    Frisky Beavers. SNERK

  10. Ginger says:

Ok, I’m going to raise my hand and say that I’ve read 3 of those “Frisky Beavers” books, and they’re pretty entertaining!

  11. Darlynne says:

@MaryK: I use gift cards, too, and have not had a problem with earning Kindle book credit in the past. Nothing in the fine print for this offer excludes using gift cards and, really, they’re the same as cash. No guarantees, of course, but I’m going to pay with my gift card. If something changes, I’ll report back.

  12. DiscoDollyDeb says:

The Frisky Beavers books are fun—and right now a prequel novella, RETROSEXUAL, is free in the kindle store. It’s a nice story about an older couple, married for 20 years with several kids, and how they keep the spark alive (“Let’s pretend we’re strangers who meet at the Replacements concert,” ftw). The hero is an aide to the Prime Minister—hero of the book listed above. I really like Ainsley Booth’s writing style (she also publishes as Zoe York) and heartily recommend her Forbidden Bodyguards series., especially HATE F@CK.

  13. Lace says:

Stephanie Burgis’ novella Snowspelled is 99 cents right now at Amazon and Kobo and likely other US etailers. I enjoyed it, others I know squee’d. Probably a good fit for people who enjoyed Zen Cho’s Sorcerer to the Crown.

Four months ago, Cassandra Harwood was the first woman magician in Angland, and she was betrothed to the brilliant, intense love of her life.

  14. JPeK says:

I just wanted to share the awesomeness of what just happened to me! After reading Ren’s initial comment and the ensuing conversation about the Amazon offer, I went to activate the offer for myself, happy but also a tiny bit frustrated that I hadn’t noticed it yesterday … when I had paid exactly $20.95 on Kindle ebook purchases.

I thought, “okay, JPeK, you know you can pretty easily find more books you want to buy in the next few days — just start looking!” To start off, I caved and bought a really short story by a favorite author that I’ve been eyeing for about a month, for $1.99.

About 5 minutes later, I received an email from Amazon, saying I had earned my $5 credit. I guess they applied my $20+ purchases from the day before, retroactively! How awesome is that?!

So, I didn’t have to spend another $20 after all and now I get to read that short story that I kept hesitating over buying. 🙂

  15. Suzy K says:

I misread the commenting about the first book, Erotic Stories, as RBG, not RHG… mentally commenting that I didn’t know that RBG was reviewing books for SBTB. Not a comment on the book or RBG reading it (because why not? we shouldn’t make assumptions about what people are “expected” to read based upon race, gender-ish, intelligence, faith, or profession)

I was just reading too fast….

  16. Kathy says:

@Suzy K This made me laugh so hard. Not helped by the fact I spent a good five minutes wondering who the heck RBG was. (Bit slow) I’m now flashing onto Seinfeld “Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” LOL.
