  • A Night to Surrender

A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare

A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is the first book in the much loved Spindle Cove series. Sarah has really enjoyed this series (though she says this one was her least favorite of the books). She also says the setting is wonderful and the characters, especially the women, are fantastic. What’s your favorite book in the series?

Spindle Cove is the destination of choice for certain types of well-bred young ladies: the painfully shy, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men; it is a haven for those who live there.

Victor Bramwell, the new Earl of Rycliff, knows he doesn’t belong here. So far as he can tell, there’s nothing in this place but spinsters . . .and sheep. But he has no choice, he has orders to gather a militia. It’s a simple mission, made complicated by the spirited, exquisite Susanna Finch–a woman who is determined to save her personal utopia from the invasion of Bram’s makeshift army.

Susanna has no use for aggravating men; Bram has sworn off interfering women. The scene is set for an epic battle; but who can be named the winner when both have so much to lose?

  • Daughter of Smoke & Bone

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

RECOMMENDEDDaughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor is $2.99! This is a YA fantasy with some romantic elements, and it’s the first in a series. I’ve heard so many good things about this book, and several friends compared it to a fairy tale. However, readers admit that it’s a tad confusing at the start, as they tried to get their footing in the story.

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

  • How the Duke Was Won

How the Duke Was Won by Lenora Bell

How the Duke was Won by Lenora Bell is $1.99! This is the first book in the Disgraceful Dukes series. Readers recommended this book for a light and silly romance. However, others wished there was a bit more focus in the plot. Also a note that there is a review that mentions an Asian character teaching the heroine martial arts, and that’s the extent of the character’s role. You can read that review here.

The pleasure of your company is requested at Warbury Park. Four lovely ladies will arrive… but only one can become a duchess.

James, the scandalously uncivilized Duke of Harland, requires a bride with a spotless reputation for a strictly business arrangement. Lust is prohibited and love is out of the question.

Four ladies. Three days. What could go wrong?

She is not like the others…

Charlene Beckett, the unacknowledged daughter of an earl and a courtesan, has just been offered a life-altering fortune to pose as her half-sister, Lady Dorothea, and win the duke’s proposal. All she must do is:

    * Be the perfect English rose [Ha!]

    * Breathe, smile, and curtsy in impossibly tight gowns [blast Lady Dorothea’s sylph-like figure]

    * Charm and seduce a wild duke [without appearing to try]

    * Keep said duke far, far from her heart [no matter how tempting]

When secrets are revealed and passion overwhelms, James must decide if the last lady he should want is really everything he needs. And Charlene must decide if the promise of a new life is worth risking everything . . . including her heart.

  • The Memory of You

The Memory of You by Jamie Beck

The Memory of You by Jamie Beck is $1.99 at Amazon! This looks to be an emotional, small town,  contemporary romance, judging by the description. Readers definitely recommend having tissues handy for this one, while others felt all the emotional turmoil was too much at times.

When Steffi Lockwood returns to Sanctuary Sound to start over, she has no idea she’ll also get a second chance with her first love.

Steffi Lockwood has survived more than most. Recovering from an assault, she returns to her coastal Connecticut hometown to rebuild her life the best way she knows how: with her hands. But starting a remodeling business with one longtime friend puts her in the middle of a rift with another. Worse, being hired by her ex-boyfriend’s mother forces her to confront old regrets.

Public defender Ryan Quinn wasn’t shocked when his wife left him, but he was floored when she abandoned their daughter. With his finances up in the air, the newly single dad returns to his childhood home in Sanctuary Sound. The last person he expects, or wants, to see working on his family house is Steffi Lockwood—his first love who shattered his heart.

Although Steffi and Ryan are different people now, dormant feelings rekindle. But when Steffi’s secrets begins to surface, will it bring them together…or tear them apart for good?

The holidays have really thrown me off my usual routine. I only just checked the Amazon monthly kindle romance deals:

    Lisa Kleypas, Mine Till Midnight
Lisa Kleypas, Tempt Me at Twilight

Each are $2.99, and I’ve seen each cited as favorites by various Kleypas fans. (I’m not particularly fond of the first, but Twilight features a Slytherin x Hufflepuff pairing, which…yes.)

Lucy Parker, Act Like It – $1.99 isn’t the best price I’ve ever seen for the first book in the London Celebrities series, but I could have bought this at three times the price and still only been happy to see it go on sale so more people can enjoy it.

  2. seantheaussie says:

A Week to be Wicked is my favourite Spindle Cove book. It is head and shoulders above the others, being my second favourite romance, while the others don’t make my reread list. I spent my time reading it feeling warm inside, with a smile on my face and often squirmed and hummed with happiness.

  3. LauraL says:

A Night to Surrender is my favorite of the Spindle Cove series. I like how the male and female factions square off a few times with Susanna and Bram as collateral damage. In a good way.

I enjoyed How the Duke was Won but I am a fan of Lenora Bell’s way of putting humor in her stories. I read for pleasure, and Literary Criticism class was like 40 years ago for me, so I have no quibble with a martial arts teacher having a small role in the story and some of the historical inaccuracies closer readers would find.
