HaBO: Heroine Forgot the Parking Brake

This HaBO request is from Jamie, who wants to find what sounds like a comedic contemporary romance:

I remember this as being tremendously funny, but cannot for the life of me remember the title or author. The heroine is a klutz and I think she was an artist. She is vacationing (?) on a Caribbean island or somewhere tropical. There is an incident with the car where she forgets to set the parking brake, and it rolls causing an accident. There is another incident where she sets up to paint or photograph a sunset/seascape at low tide and doesn’t realize the tide has since come in.

I would love to read this again to see if it is as funny as I remember. It may be part of a Harlequin series, as I used to read a lot of them. I’m pretty sure I read this in the 90s, though it may not have been new at the time and it was definitely contemporary.

Does anyone remember this heroine?

Hmm, sounds like Anne McAllister, but it doesn’t quite fit her Pelican Bay series. That was about a sculptor, I think.
Do you remember anything about the line or cover?

  2. MegS says:

I feel like this might be conflating two books? The photo/tide-coming-in but sounds a LOT like Elizabeth Lowell’s To the Ends of the Earth. But that book…not so funny.

  3. Karen Ward says:

Animal Magnetism by Jill Shelves features a klutz who rear ends (Hur!) the hero’s car………but definitely no salty water in the vicinity.

  4. Gloriamarie says:

No a single idea what this book is… When you said it was funny, I immediately thought of Jennifer Crusie, but she didn’t write one about a heroine forgetting the parking who was an artist.

Would love to learn the answer.
