A Certain Age by Beatriz Williams is $1.99 at Amazon and Barnes & Noble! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is a historical fiction novel set in New York’s Jazz Age. This book was released earlier this summer and readers loved the sense of place Williams created. It’s also a retelling of an opera, which is pretty cool! However, others found the story a bit underwhelming compared to the jacket copy. It has a 3.6-star rating on Goodreads.

Forbidden by Jess Michaels is 99c! This is the first book in the Wicked Woodleys series and features some forced proximity and a bit of a taboo relationship. Readers thought the friends to lovers romance was really sweet, but others wanted more backstory from the characters and their families.

The House by Christina Lauren is 99c! This YA novel has some horror and romantic elements. Some readers thought it was just spooky enough for them and it set a great, eerie tone. However, others found the teen relationship was a bit too juvenile for them, especially since certain readers were used to reading Lauren’s adult romances.

Readers said this was a quick read that was low on angst, but others warn that the plot definitely requires some suspension of disbelief. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Sarah Gailey’s novella River of Teeth is on sale for $0.99 today. It’s a fantastical story set in the bayous of an alternate history America, one where hippos were successfully bred for meat– before it all went horribly wrong.
It’s diverse, it’s kick-ass, the action is thrilling, and my only complaints are that it’s too short (though 500 pages might not be enough time to spend with these characters) and that the sequel isn’t out for another month.
