HaBO: Bethany & Royce K-I-S-S-I-N-G

This HaBO is from Raina, who wants to find this older historical romance: Looking for a really old romance novel. Probably 20-30 years or so. It was a historical with the hero taking over the heroine’s castle by force. I believe the hero’s name was Royce and the heroine was Bethany, but don’t quote me on that. One was a Saxon and the other a Norman? The heroine tried to save all of her people … Continue reading HaBO: Bethany & Royce K-I-S-S-I-N-G

Book Review

Wake Me Most Wickedly by Felicia Grossman

Wake Me Most Wickedly

I enjoyed this book. I read it cover-to-cover in almost one sitting, but as I sit here to write this review, I’m left with distinctly meh feelings about it. Is this because I had a disappointing breakfast and that’s colouring my perspective? Or was the book meh? Let’s find out together. This story is set in the Jewish community of London in the 1830s and is essentially a gender-reversed Snow White retelling. Solomon Weiss is … Continue reading Wake Me Most Wickedly by Felicia Grossman

Get Rec’d with Amanda – Volume 63

Welcome back to Get Rec’d! This one has more romance than I typically include because we already recommend so many romances on the site! Of course, romance is also what we’re here for. On top of two romance recommendations, I’ve included a YA graphic novel and a super cute picture book. Have you received any good recommendations? Drop them in the comments below!

Whatcha Reading? April 2024, Part One

Featured image for Whatcha Reading? April 2024, Part One

Hey y’all! I’m driving the Whatcha Reading? bus this week, as Amanda is traveling the globe. Spring has SPROINGED around me. This is a picture I took recently of my neighbor’s camellia (I think that’s a camellia) against the sky. In a truly dorky move, I’m trying to match the colors for a quilt in progress because I love blue, green, and pink together. Here’s what’s on the currently-reading list at SBTB HQ – with … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? April 2024, Part One

What happens when you write the books you want to read but are having a hard time finding? Many good things. Kimberly Lemming loves fantasy, and started writing her own catnip, which led to the joy that is the Mead Mishaps series. Book Review

Warrior Girl Unearthed, by Angeline Boulley

Warrior Girl Unearthed

Warrior Girl Unearthed is thrilling, upsetting, and edifying. There are some structural problems with this book, it still delivered the squee factor, in that I was totally absorbed and emotionally invested in this story. This is a stand-alone novel set in the same community as in the book The Firekeeper’s Daughter, another excellent read. Both books tackle difficult issues that face indigenous young women in America with empathy, perception, tenderness, and grit. Neither is a … Continue reading Warrior Girl Unearthed, by Angeline Boulley
