  • Alterations

    Alterations by Stephanie Scott

    Author: Stephanie Scott
Released: December 6, 2016 by Bloomsbury Spark
    Genre: , ,

If anyone saw the prom boards Amelia Blanco makes on her favorite fashion app, they’d think Ethan Laurenti was her boyfriend. They wouldn’t know that all the plans she’s made for them are just dreams, and that she’s the girl who watches him from the kitchen while her parents cook for his famous family.

When Amelia’s abuelita enrolls her in a month-long fashion internship in NYC, Amelia can’t imagine leaving Miami–and Ethan–for that long. As soon as she gets to New York, however, she finds a bigger world and new possibilities. She meets people her own age who can actually carry on a conversation about stitching and design. Her pin boards become less about prom with Ethan and more about creating her own style. By the time she returns to Miami, Amelia feels like she can accomplish anything, and surprises herself by agreeing to help Ethan’s awkward, Steve-Jobs-wannabe brother, Liam, create his own fashion app.

As Liam and Amelia get closer, Ethan realizes that this newly confident, stylish girl may be the one for him after all . . . even though he has a reality TV star girlfriend he conveniently keeps forgetting about. The “new and improved” Amelia soon finds herself in between two brothers, a whole lot of drama, and choice she never dreamed she’d have to make.

Sarah says: A retelling of Sabrina? SOLD!

    Series: Moonshadow #1

Her past is a blank, her future uncertain….

Recovering from a shooting, LAPD witch consultant Sophie Ross leaves her job and travels to the U.K. to search for answers about her childhood. When she encounters a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Court, she becomes entangled in an ancient hatred between two arcane forces.

Sophie has no intention of becoming anyone’s pawn, yet the fierce Nikolas is so compelling, she can’t deny the temptation that endangers her guarded heart.

As magic threatens Lyonesse, Queen Isabeau unleashes her merciless Hounds, and Nikolas and Sophie become embroiled in a race for survival. Meanwhile, the passion that ignites between them burns too hot to be denied and quickly turns into obsession.

Thank goodness they both know better than to fall in love…

Amanda say: This looks like the first book in a new spin-off series and I’m excited to read it, rather than try and play catch up with her Elder Races right now.

  • Lord of the Privateers

Lord of the Privateers by Stephanie Laurens

    Author: Stephanie Laurens
Released: December 27, 2016 by MIRA
    Genre: ,
    Series: The Adventurers Quartet #4

The eldest of the Frobisher brothers and widely known as the lord of the privateers, Royd Frobisher expects to execute the final leg of the rescue mission his brothers have been pursuing. What he does not expect is to be pressured into taking his emotional nemesis, childhood sweetheart, ex-handfasted bride, and current business partner, Isobel Carmichael, with him. But is it Isobel doing the pressuring, or his own restless unfulfilled psyche?

Resolute, determined, and an all but unstoppable force of nature, Isobel has a mission of her own—find her cousin Katherine and bring her safely home. And if, along the way, she can rid herself of the lingering dreams of a life with Royd that still haunt her, well and good.

Neither expects the shock that awaits them as they set sail aboard Royd’s ship, much less the new horizons that open before them as they call into London, then, armed with the necessary orders and all arrangements in place, embark on a full-scale rescue-assault on the mining compound buried in the jungle.

Yet even with the support of his brothers and their ladies and, once rescued, all the ex-captives, Royd and Isobel discover that freeing the captives is only half the battle. In order to identify and convict the backers behind the illicit enterprise—and protect the government from catastrophic destabilization—they must return to the ballrooms of the haut ton, and with the help of a small army of supporters, hunt the villains on their home ground.

But having found each other again, having glimpsed the heaven that could be theirs again, how much are they willing to risk in the name of duty?

  1. Heather S says:

“The Fate of the Tearling” just came out. A trilogy binge is in my near future. 🙂

Was also sad to see on Jennifer McQuiston’s FB page that she is stopping writing because she can’t juggle two full-time careers. It may be many years before she resumes. It makes me sad.

  2. Cassie says:

Maya Rodale’s Lady Claire is All That is coming out on the 27th. The series has been fluffy and cute so far so I’m pretty excited 🙂

Supposedly there’s a Courtney Milan historical this month too, but it keeps getting pushed back so I’m not sure.

  3. Caiti says:

Elizabeth Hunter’s new Elemental World book, “A Stone Kissed Sea”, comes out Dec 6th! I’ll be making some bad book club decisions that night, I just know it.

  4. LoreneT says:

I read the Alexandra Ivy Kill Without Shame. Good mystery, kept my attention with all that was going on in November. It was good to escape into a well written book.

  5. Lisa says:

Lauren Layne latest in her Oxford series, “Someone Like You” is out December 6th. Contemporary series taking place in a New York magazine with enough charm, sexy times, and not overly angsty.

  6. Starling says:

Thanks, Heather! I need to run off and buy the new Tearling book. I loved-loved the first one, but I wasn’t totally convinced by the second. I’m hoping the third makes me love it all over again.

I love Rodale’s Cavendish series, too. Fluffy + cute is exactly what I need right now.

  7. jdk says:

I’m surprised no one in the bitchery has yet mentioned “How Not to Let Go” by Emily Foster. It’s the follow up to “How Not to Fall” and it’s getting released on 12/27/16. I initially picked up the first book based on the positive reviews from here (I think was also mentioned on the podcast??). Squeezing may have been involved, I don’t remember. Hot, angsty, NA, student – teacher relationship (in a non-icky way) and sexual exploration in a refreshingly healthy, communicative way. It’s on preorder for my Kindle and I can’t wait.

  8. jdk says:

Oooops, my bad. You guys did mention it and I missed it. I will never doubt the Bitchery again. ; )

  9. Kareni says:

I’m definitely looking forward to that new Thea Harrison book. Iceling looks intriguing, too — and, happy day, my library already has it on order.

  10. Stephanie says:

I was listening to this week’s podcast when someone let me know ALTERATIONS was on your new releases list. Yay! I love this blog. So glad someone here had the thought to include my book. I’m also excited for Ally Carter’s next book in her Embassy Row series – also YA with a dash of romance 🙂

  11. Ariadna says:

The only book I’m rarin’ to read this month is Kris Ripper’s One Life to Lose (Book 4 in the Queers of La Vista series.) It’s an M/M/M. As per what I’ve heard, it’s the best one in the series (and I’ve loved all 3 book so…)

  12. The Other Kate says:

The fact that the Stephanie Laurens hero is named “Royd” just begs for snark . . .

  13. Beth says:

I’m looking so forward to Four Weddings and a Sixpence. I need light and fluffy this time of year, and this looks to fit the bill.

On the other hand, and I admit this grudgingly, but the Nora Roberts’ Guardian series, at least the first book, is really not that good and boring to boot. I’m usually a sucker for her books, but this one was not worth reading the sequels, in my oh-so humble opinion. 😉

  14. Lisa says:

I amend my comment about “Someone like you” by Lauren Layne. Still the charm, but very angsty!
