RECOMMENDED: The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw is $2.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this sale! Carrie gave this one a Squee grade:
Dear readers, I would be remiss if I did not point out that Cassandra Khaw’s book The Salt Grows Heavy is about what happens when a horror story version of a mermaid teams up with a version of Frankenstein’s monster to burn it all down. It is, in its own blood-soaked, rage-fueled way, a romance. There may not be many of us for whom this is our jam, but if it IS your jam, buckle up.
If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading April 2023 New Releases, Part Two→
Beginner’s Luck by Kate Clayborn is $1.99 at Amazon! It’s a Kindle Daily Deal and hasn’t been price-matched yet. Sarah gave this book a C- because she was hoping for some more depth in the book. However, I remember seeing the Bitchery recommend it in comments. This might be a Your Mileage May Vary situation. It also has a scientist heroine!
Under the Wire by HelenKay Dimon is 99c! Elyse loves this series and this is the fourth book in the Undercover Bad Boys series. Readers thought the balance of romance and suspense was spot on, but others felt the book added too many components to the suspense aspect and it got a little muddled. Any Dimon fans in the Bitchery?
June is here! This month is absolutely packed with interesting books. Below are some titles on our TBR list, but here are a few more you may be anticipating: Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner is out! Jennifer L. Armentrout begins a new series with Storm & Fury . Love k-dramas? You might want to check out Wicked Fox by Kat Cho . Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin is coming out and it has the most gorgeous cover. The Friend … Continue reading June’s New Releases→
Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa is 99c! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which also include some Star Wars titles. This is a YA fantasy novel inspired by Japanese mythology, and it was recommended by someone in my romance book club. This one has also been mentioned on the site in things like Book Beat and Hide Your Wallet.
I think that readers of Megan Frampton and Caroline Linden will like this book and this author. There’s angst, but, like, as a seasoning. The real star of the dish is the well-plotted tension.
The Rogue by Katharine Ashe is 99c! This is a first book in a new historical romance series that seems to have a lot of catnip: a second chance romance, a scarred hero, and a marriage of convenience. Content warning: Some reviewers warn that there is rape and torture as part of the heroine’s backstory.
What I liked best about Six Impossible Things was Rosalie and her determination that she would use her talents to help King and Country, whether King and Country liked it or not. She’s a patriot in the purest sense, and she’s got a brilliant mind that’s working two steps ahead of everyone else.
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers is $2.99! This scifi novel has been recommended and loved by many of my friends, and talked about highly in my book group. The book has some great queer representation, though readers remarked it’s more character driven than plot driven.
The Bloodprint by Ausma Zehanat Khan is $2.99! Thanks to Nerdalisque for letting us know about this sale! This is the first in a fantasy series and was stuck in Elyse’s bookmas tree for a while. Readers loved the authors descriptive writing style, but felt they couldn’t get a good grasp on the characters.
