Book of Love by Erin Satie

Book of Love

Usually when I fall in love with a book, I devour it in one giant gulp and at one sitting, and only come back to savour it on a second reading. So Book of Love was unusual for me, in that I loved it, but also kept putting it down because I wanted to make it last longer. The quality of the writing and the sweetness not just of the central relationship, but of the … Continue reading Book of Love by Erin Satie

Links time! *fanfare of trumpets* It’s Wednesday and I think the cold temps are making me a little delirious. I’ve lost count of the many layers I’m wearing. I just know I can’t zip up my peacoat and I feel like a marshmallow person. Hope you’re all having a fantastic week! … Frolic has a Romance Rarities Bingo! I think some of the categories are pretty interesting and I’ll be cross-posting it to our Goodreads … Continue reading Links: Penny Dreadful, Playlists, & More

The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

The Bridge Kingdom

I keep reading books that are very hard for me to grade, because I have conflicting reactions to them. The Bridge Kingdom started out incredibly strong, but things that happened in the last 15% or so of the book soured the reading experience for me. The fact that I enjoyed the book quite a lot until that point made my disappointment even more intense. I’ve been a fan of Danielle L. Jensen since her debut … Continue reading The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

RWA is over! And my feet are so grateful. If you missed the RWA RITA award ceremony, I hope RWA uploads it to their YouTube soon. I haven’t been able to find it posted just yet. The speeches were amazing. I cried. And we finally (FINALLY) have a Black author winning a RITA. Two authors, in fact! The RITA also has its first South Asian author winning. You could not recreate the energy in that … Continue reading Links: Brooklyn 99, Forced Proximity, & More

Rogue Desire: A Romance Anthology

Rogue Desire

This collection is billed as an anthology for fans of The West Wing, for fired up resistance fighters, and for anyone who’s had a crush on that guy at the protest. To be honest, I have not had any crushes on guys at protests, because the ones I tend to notice are the ones acting like fools, so there’s that. However, all of those other things describe me. There are 8 stories in this book … Continue reading Rogue Desire: A Romance Anthology

Checking In and Getting Involved Part 2

So we’re a few months into the Administration of the 45th President of the United States, and we thought it might be a good idea to check in, see how everyone is doing? We talked about getting involved back in November, just after the election, and a lot has happened since then. I’ve been REALLY BUSY since January, and so have a LOT of other people. Getting Involved A lot has happened, and there’s a … Continue reading Checking In and Getting Involved Part 2

Art is a Political Act

I mentioned on the podcast a few weeks ago that I’ve spent a lot of the past year being ANGRY. And being so angry I couldn’t focus on reading or enjoying things I read or make. I was always angry. I’m still always angry. (No, I am not going to use a gif of Mark Ruffalo here, because I’ll be damned if I use a dude to express my rage right now.)  The latest in … Continue reading Art is a Political Act

March by John Lewis

March: Book One

Over the weekend I binge-read March, the graphic novel (in three volumes) by Congressman John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. My advice is that you should absolutely read March but pace yourself. TW for racism and violence. March describes Representative Lewis’s years with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). It’s told as a series of flashbacks remembered on the day of Barack Obama’s inauguration and bookended by memories of Bloody Sunday — the day … Continue reading March by John Lewis

We’re back to our regularly scheduled programming this week with Wednesday Links. However, there are a lot of links in this post. Hopefully, the bigger dose will help get you to Friday! … This has come up on a previous podcast and thanks to Reader Abbey J for sending this link to us, but what’s the deal with all the “Girl” titles: Who are these girls? Why are there so many of them? Books with … Continue reading Links: Book Titles, Wine, & a Visual Romance Kickstarter

Getting Involved

Featured image for Getting Involved

In the wake of last week’s election results here in the United States, we’ve covered a few ways to help take care of ourselves through self-care, reading, and cooking. We hope it’s helped some of you, but once we’ve gotten past the initial shock, many of you are wondering how to help take care of others. First, we want to thank Reader PamG for this wonderful idea of listing resources for those looking to become … Continue reading Getting Involved
