RITA Reader Challenge Review

Romancing Miss Right by Lizzie Shane

This RITA® Reader Challenge 2016 review was written by Goodreads. This story was nominated for the RITA® in the Mid-Length Contemporary category.

The summary:

They aren’t in it for love… but love has it in for them.

Marcy Henrickson isn’t looking for love as the latest Miss Right on the reality dating show Romancing Miss Right. She’s realistic enough to know the odds of finding true love on national television are astronomical–but the chance that the exposure will boost her next book onto the New York Times Bestseller List? That’s a risk worth taking. And if she’s the one picking from the handsome Suitors, how can she possibly get hurt?

The last thing Craig Corrow wants is to fall in love. San Diego’s Favorite Bad Influence is looking to transition from local radio shock-jock to national television host and a reality dating show is his ticket to fame and fortune. He’s there to stir things up and Miss Right is just another pawn in his game plan…

Until he meets Marcy and she isn’t the fake reality princess he was expecting. She’s all too real–and so is the way he feels about her. But when he’s faced with a choice between love or money, can this bad boy give up his villain ways and get the girl?

Here is Goodreads's review:

I didn’t receive a 2016 RITA® Reader Challenge review for this book, so I’m compiling quotes from reviews online and using the grade average from Goodreads as a substitute.

This book has a 4.21 average, which I’m interpreting as an A-.

And here are the review quotes, linked to the original sources. There is also only one Goodreads review with comments, so I’m using other sources besides Goodreads:

…This is a wonderful story of love between two people who are not sure about love or how they feel about it, or if true ever lasting love even exists. One feels its best to play it safe and the other is not safe at all. They explore a lot of feelings both good and bad, lots of up and downs. They have a lot of laughs and some tears, but is it enough to find true love in the end? It’s a wonderful, sweet story full of emotion…

I read this book before I read the first one in the series, and I’m glad. The characters of book one annoyed me a little too much, and I’m not sure I would have continued in the series if that’s where I’d started.

The author’s writing is fabulous though, even in that first book, and her talent really comes out to shine here. Everything about this story was perfect! I loved the characters, the dilemmas, everything.

Boring book.

I actually read this after a RITA review for the next book in the series, and then ended up binge reading – and thoroughly enjoying – the whole series. It was a bit of a hump time at work otherwise I would have done a review… The hero started off fairly awful in terms of his characterisation (I hate shock jocks, and refuse to listen to them on the radio) but I appreciated the emergence of his human side, and the transformation in Marcy to someone who people could connect with was great. Miranda, the producer, is my favourite character in this book though, and her story weaves through the series. Of the four books, I think I liked #3 Planning on Prince Charming best…
