511. Cover Snark Live: Long Thumbs and Shifter Mayhem with Amanda

Lisa from Shrewsbury sent us an email and two contenders for Cover Snark – so we did Cover Snark live! Check the show notes for a link to the covers, and tell us what you notice first!

Happy belated birthday Lisa! Thank you for the wild thumbs and the shifter bonanza!

Are you ready for the covers Lisa sent us? I hope so!

TALES OF FIRE AND EMBERS an illustrated cover of two white young people the one on the left has long light colored hair, an open shirt that ties at the neck, and a sword. His thumb is very very very long. THe other person on the right has a low cut purple gown and what looks like one large breast in the center of their chest. This person also has very very very long fingers but no thumb. Both of them look absolutely miserable.

SHIFTERS FOR A CAUSE : there's a dude with no shirt and ninety five abs flexing with his arms out. On his shoulder is a platypus, there's a hedgehog on his head, and a wild cat perched on his wrist. Behind him is an elephant with trunk up and above that an eagle flying with talons out. This cover is absolute mayhem

If you liked this episode, let me know! In the comments, via email – it’s fun to try different things and I would love to know if you laughed along with us today.

  1. Malaraa says:

Oh both of them are there on cover one! and yes, those look like they were originally…not covered. The layer of sheer dress was added on top! She was however, clearly facing not quite fully side profile, and that arm and shoulder were strrrrreeetched over to hide the gap between the two people (probably covering other snark-worthy issues) so now she has an extra 4-6 inches of body between her shoulder and chest! The odd pointy neck shadow is almost certainly another remnant of the head also being adjusted a few inches too far toward the viewer to be natural. Her cleavage line, hips and lower torso are still pointed the original direction! And while the thumb being replaced with a mirrored forefinger is disturbing looking, so are what used to be his other fingers that now look like they’re growing out of the side of her mutant hand. Something about his stiff shirt and his mostly hidden arms makes him look like he is emaciated and has a swollen-with-hunger belly, which i guess makes sense if they’ve been down there forever. The whole thing is a cry of “Help! I discovered halfway through my cover i just can’t draw arms!”

Second book guy can’t be Kevin, not in a “Shared World”. Kevin would be in the first and last books by the “hosting” author, and the middle books would all be about ways others contributed. But I think ab-man isn’t looking at the eagle, he’s looking up because the hair-hog saw the eagle and got scared and maybe peed a little on his head. But hey, maybe it washed the platypus venom off the shoulder? If i have to be something on that cursed cover, i choose a tree in the confusing light! Just don’t tell ab-man and friends there’s a dryad hiding back there 😀

  2. MaryK says:

The last update for SPTB on apple podcasts was on May 6, unless I’m doing something wrong.

  3. Kareni says:

    Well, that was fun!

Belated birthday wishes to you Lisa.

  4. Valency S says:

Definitely do this again as a podcast! My husband is equally addicted to Cover Snark and this was a lovely Friday night listen.

  5. Elham says:

I’m in a similar boat to MaryK. I use Google Podcasts and the last two episodes I can neither download nor stream. I get a message stating that the episode is hosted on an unstable connection. Then it gives me the option to listen in browser and it links me back here.

  6. Escapeologist says:

This episode was great silly fun, I enjoyed it!

  7. @SB Sarah says:

I’m trying to figure this out and I’m really sorry about the trouble!

  8. Miss Louisa says:

Ok, I just finished listening/laughing. What if the peeps in the first cover are the outbreak monkeys who got Kevin sick?
