Oh, boy. I’m so excited for this book and for everyone to get their hands on it. Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren comes out June 6, 2017 (tomorrow!) and it’s a standalone contemporary romance. No need to worry about catching up on previous books! It’s set in the world of Hollywood talent agencies and has a heroine that I absolutely love. Here’s the books description: All’s fair in love and work. The first standalone romance by … Continue reading Excerpt & Giveaway: Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren→
Having read numerous RITA guest reviews over the course of these past two years, I was delighted to be able to grab an opportunity to be one of them. Smart Bitches Trashy Books is my go-to blog to know which book is right up my alley and which won’t do at all. Since all the spots of books I had read last year and loved were taken, I decided to go for an unknown author. … Continue reading The Turning Point by Marie Meyer→
RECOMMENDED: Wonder Woman Unbound by Tim Hanley is $3.82 at Amazon and $4.99 elsewhere. While not your typical discounted price, I thought this would be great to tie in for RHG’s Wonder Woman film review. Carrie really enjoyed this book and it earned an A+ grade:
Wonder Woman has persisted as a feminist icon whether she is taking over a Nazi U-boat, or getting excited about shopping and dating a new crush, or twirling around on our TV sets (I LOVED that show!). At her best and at her worst, she stands for justice and she always gets the bad guy. This book did a great job of tracing her history in an entertaining interesting way and I highly recommend it!
I felt a little out of my comfort zone reading this book – I don’t think that I had realized that it was New Adult when I signed up to review it; since I’m a couple of decades older than the characters, it was a little hard for me to relate to them at first. But I’m glad that I read it – it’s good to stretch our comfort zones once in a while, right? … Continue reading The Turning Point by Marie Meyer→
Greetings, everyone! It’s time for the June edition of the Smart Bitches Business Update, a monthly feature wherein I fling myself with nerdy glee in to the workings of this here website, ask nosy questions, take requests, and share some information about how the site and the community function. I skipped May, which I just realized (OOPS) most likely because it was RT and I was so tired I probably had no idea what year it was by that … Continue reading Smart Bitches Business Update: June 2017→
Lone Heart Pass is a sweet book that has too many stories going on and while by the end many of them are resolved, at the end, I felt unsatisfied. This is the first Jodi Thomas that I’ve read and I chose it because I’ve been wanting to read a western romance and she seems to be a reliable author. I don’t think I’d read another. As this book has so many plots in it, I’m … Continue reading Lone Heart Pass by Jodi Thomas→
THAT WAS EVERYTHING. ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. This is as non-spoilery as I can make it, but there may be spoilers in the comments. If there’s interest, maybe we can put up a discussion post this weekend. We are on the record as saying that we’ve been looking forward to Wonder Woman since Diana Prince was BY FAR the best part of Bats Vee Supes. Anxiously. Not even patiently. Y’all, Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot did Diana … Continue reading Movie Review: Wonder Woman→
I selected this book to expand my literary repertoire – I am admittedly not the target audience for a contemporary set on a ranch in Texas. However, the premise seemed interesting, and it stands alone, even as part of a series. But I had so many issues with this book that, despite the interesting set-up, I spent most of my time with this story shaking my head and muttering in irritation. The premise: First we … Continue reading Lone Heart Pass by Jodi Thomas→
I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather this week – nothing huge, just my usual summer cold, right on time. A year ago or so, I got a copy of A Handbook of Invalid Cooking: For the Use of Nurses in Training Schools, Nurses in Private Practice, and Others Who Care For the Sick , published in 1898. Sadly, it’s not an original (that would be awesome, wouldn’t it?) but a reprint; that said, it’s … Continue reading RedHeadedGirl’s Historical Kitchen: Beef Tea→
I was pretty excited to start reading Wanderlust. Roni Loren is an author I’ve been wanting to check out for a while–I know she has another series about sex therapists that sounds super interesting, and by all accounts H-O-T. I am also a sucker for a rock star book of any kind. Write about a hot guy who expresses his feelings through music, and I am probably going to be here for it. So when … Continue reading Wanderlust by Roni Loren→
