RECOMMENDED: At Wolf Ranch by Jennifer Ryan is $2.99! This is technically more of a romantic suspense than a contemporary, but I’d say the suspense portion is pretty light. The book also features an awesome beta rancher hero who knows how to cook. Elyse and I did a joint review of the book and gave it a B:
Elyse:
This book was trope heaven for me. It’s got Country Boy vs City Girl, Unexpected Rescuer, Snowed In… It was like trope confetti.
Amanda:
Yes! Plus I’ve been on a cowboy kick lately and c’mon, did you see the size of that man’s Stetson on the cover?
Admittedly, it was a slow start for me with the phone call and the info dumpage of character details. However once Ella and Gabe were in the same vicinity, the book really took off. Their interactions together were sincere, sweet, and addicting.
Sense 8 is a weird mess of a show that is notoriously slow to grab its viewers’ attention. Most people either love it or hate it by episode three or four. I was completely apathetic at the end of Episode 1 and fanatically obsessed by the end of Episode 2. What hooked me? The romances, and how the romances hook into the idea that people need to connect to other people in order to emotionally … Continue reading Sense8: Like Whoa, Love is Amazing, AMIRITE?→
I adore Jane Graves. I loved the first book in her Rainbow Valley series. Her characters walk off the page, and her style of writing puts me in the center of her stories. It’s why I gravitated towards writing this piece in the first place. I also know that it’s hard to pull together a series, especially one with the kind of cool and quirky concept like the one the Rainbow Valley series is based … Continue reading Baby It’s You by Jane Graves→
Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews is $1.99! Burn for Me is the first book in the Hidden Legacy series, and is an urban fantasy/billionaire story with magic, suspense, and a 4.4-star rating from readers on GoodReads. For those who remember, this book made it to the finals in this year’s DABWAHA tournament, and it was beaten by another Ilona Andrews title – Magic Breaks ( A | K | G | AB | Au )
Once upon a time, the best selling comics weren’t about superheroes – they were romance anthologies. You can find my review of a collection of the oldest romance comics line, Young Romance, here. These romance comics were unabashedly soapy and melodramatic, but not very diverse. Now we have a new romance comic magazine, Fresh Romance. In my review of the first issue, I said that the first issue was too short but that the stories … Continue reading Fresh Romance #2, Ed. by Janelle Asselin→
BIG WARNING: You need to put your wallet, your credit cards, even your spare change, in a safe to which you do not know the combination to. It’s a steep month, ya’ll!
This HaBO request is from Megan. Y’all, there is a Purple Sweater of Love. So I love you ladies, and you have been detrimental to my wallet on several occasions. I remember tiny, teeny tiny, parts of the plot and remember liking this book, but now have no idea what the heck it could be. There’s almost nothing to go on, but the Bitchery is pretty amazing, so here’s hoping. I read it in the … Continue reading HaBO: The Purple Sweater of Love→
Thorne McKelvie has meticulously and ruthlessly worked his way up through the ranks of criminal organisation the Hangmen, a group that doesn’t shy away from human trafficking in sweat shops, drug or arms smuggling. The leader of the Hangmen is suspicious of Thorne, however, and worried that he is gunning for his spot next, taking over the whole organisation. So after a series of unexpected attacks on the gang’s and their allies’ warehouses, he sees … Continue reading Into the Shadows by Carolyn Crane→
Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole is marked down temporarily to $1.99! This is to celebrate the new cover- which makes me a little sad because the old cover had one of the best cases of accidental dong ever. This book has a 4+ star average, and is part of the Immortals After Dark series, which Amanda Loves. LOVES.
This HaBO is from Pamela, who is looking for a series she started – but didn’t finish. And she can’t remember it so she can buy the next one. That’s a problem! Ok, so I read a lot. A LOT. I’m a really fast reader, I can knock out a book in a couple of hours. Those reading times on Amazon are total bull. Anyway, I love coming across a series I enjoy, because, well, … Continue reading HaBO: Spies and Wives and Historical Series→
A few weeks ago, I was telling folks on Twitter that I’d made a rather large dork of myself (not like that’s at all difficult) by begging a publisher to approve a NetGalley request for a New Adult F/F novel about actors on a teen drama. Someone pointed my ridiculousness out to the author, who contacted me very kindly and sent me an ARC – which was very cool of her – and so I … Continue reading Under the Lights by Dahlia Adler→
