Announcing the 2016 RITA Reader Challenge!

It’s that time of year again! The RITA® Reader Challenge. We did something new last year with including a sign-up sheet, and we’re keeping that same format with just a few minor changes. You can also see the official announcement for RITA finalists here! Basics: There are 9 different reading deadlines, spanning every ten days. We started with books that are a little shorter to give those who wish to read longer titles more time to … Continue reading Announcing the 2016 RITA Reader Challenge!

There's no such thing as too many reviews, right? RIGHT. Sort of.  First, thank you to everyone who pitched in to create the 2014 RITA Reader Challenge. It was a little extra challenging this year due to the number of nominees in some categories, but we did it!  And a big huge thank you to Amanda, who was the mastermind and organizational badass behind the scenes, for lo, she is entirely kickass. Now it's time … Continue reading 2014 RITA and Golden Heart Live Blog

Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! This is the sixth book in Hoyt's Maiden Lane series and is currently nominated for a RITA® in the Historical Romance category. Readers seem torn on whether Duke of Midnight has the best heroine or the best hero so far in the series. We've also had some favorable guest reviews. It also has a 4.1-star rating on GR. For the RITA® Reader Challenge, Pam G. gave it an A+: … Continue reading Books on Sale: Historical and Paranormal RITA Nominees

Diamond Dust by Vivian Arend is .99 for the month of July at all vendors. This book has been nominated for a 2014 RITA® in the Paranormal category. We have two RITA® reviews for this book. Syaffole gave it a C, saying, “On a superficial level, Diamond Dust is a light and fun read.  I was not a fan of the beginning—which started with a wedding and made me feel like I was cheating and … Continue reading Books on Sale: RITA Nominees, Free Contemporaries, and Daily Deals

Parasite by Mira Grant is $1.99! While not a romance, this science fiction horror novel, where people are being turned into zombies via gross tapeworm-esque parasites, has been a big hit with the SBTB crew. For those with a medical background, be advised that there are glaring inaccuracies and the book does end on a cliffhanger. Carrie reviewed it and gave it an A+: I realize that under normal circumstances a book about tapeworm zombies … Continue reading Books on Sale: Scifi, Fantasy, and a RITA Nominee

It’s that time of year again! The RITA® Reader Challenge. This year, you’ll notice the RITA awards look a little bit different, as in the buttload of historicals, contemporaries, and paranormal romances. So we figured we’d change up the Reader Challenge a little bit to make the process less chaotic and more fun for the SBTB community! Basics: There are 9 different reading deadlines, spanning every ten days. For example, the first reading deadline consists … Continue reading Announcing the RITA Reader Challenge 2014!

The RWA announced the finalists for the 2014 RITA® and Golden Heart® awards this week – congratulations to all the finalists! There's a new judging system in place wherein any book that receives 90% of the total score automatically makes the finals. This created a very interesting finalist selection, as there are more than 15 books in the paranormal, contemporary, and historical category, but only 3 erotic romances, 2 inspirationals, and 4 romantic suspense. I'm … Continue reading Links and Questions: RITA Finalists and More
