So there are some parties happening this weekend. I’m sort of “meh” about them.
I haven’t been a big rah-rah fan of July 4 for several years (since…2016 maybe? Wonder why?) and for several years it was a very stressful holiday for my dogs, and therefore for us. Our solution for our dogs, if you need help: a Bluetooth speaker turned up very loud playing brown noise (the worst name for a pretty good sleeping aid). That would cover a lot of the noise, though the vibrations were tough for them to deal with.
But even though my dogs have moved on to the dog park in the great beyond, this year I’m really not into celebrating the US.
I’ve said a few times that I think every hundred years for a country is comparable to 1 year of human development. So we’re 2 and a half this year, and…I think my theory holds a lot of water, honestly.

I have a pattern in my shop that says “This too shall pass. Like a kidney stone, but still.”
We can celebrate the 240 years before orange. In spite of him, it’s still a great country. We can’t let him own this, too.
The country is a toddler… Yeah, that fits.
I’m also having a hard time feeling like celebrating, and am lying low and listening to audiobooks. It’s been a long decade, and I’m hopeful things will improve after the Mid-terms.
I’m old enough to remember the Bicentennial. It’s a whole different vibe this time. There was a lot going on then — Vietnam, Watergate, the 70’s oil embargo. But the anniversary was important and everybody celebrated. It’s sad that 50 years later we’re still litigating abortion, gender and race relations. That said, wishing everyone a happy and safe 4th.
