Links: Magic School Bus, Hench, & More

An illustrated image of a desk space with a computer, stack of books, reading glasses, and a mug.Welcome back, everyone!

Now that the baby news is out of the way, I can openly complain about all the weird stuff my body does now. The worst of it is having a perpetually awful taste in my mouth. That’s been my least favorite.

My highlight in the last week is buying a giant pack of Hawaiian Sweet Rolls as Costco and picking up a tub of Texas Roadhouse cinnamon honey butter. Has there ever been a more perfect combo?

Elizabeth Banks has been cast as Ms. Frizzle in the live action adaptation of The Magic School Bus. Not quite sold on this one. How do you feel?

JoVE from the SBTB Podcast Patreon Discord saw this on Bluesky. The American Libraries Association is auctioning off some amazing READ posters. There’s a Kermit & Miss Piggy one that I love, but it’s already over $300!

This link is from Italapas also in the SBTB Podcast Patreon Discord. Natalie Zina Walscots, author of Hench, did an interview over at Ask a Manager.

Curious about your cozy gamer archetype? Well there’s a quiz for that. My result: Same Thing Again; You have a type and you’re not sorry about it. Six slots, six variations on the same genre. People call it predictable. You call it refined taste.

Not sure I fully agree with the assessment considering some of the games I picked are Stardew Valley, Power Wash Sim, and Dredge, which all feel very different. Unfortunately, I just had to pick Stardew Valley for two of the questions. The “What’s always installed?” and “What got you into cozy games?” questions.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

  1. Allll the empathy on the pregnancy woes! I adore both of my children, and having them was 100% worth it, but I absolutely hated pregnancy both times. I did not “glow.” I just endured! 😉

I feel obliged to link one of my favourite pieces of fan fic ever: the Hench – Ask A Manager crossover you didn’t know you needed:

That ALA “Read” poster auction is so cool. I have the David Bowie one, purchased from the ALA store when they did a limited reprint of it after he passed away. I clearly remember some of the LOTR ones being in my hometown library when I was a teen, since the movies were big then.

I have the Alan Rickman one up in my office, and gave the Hugh Lawrie one to my local library (no idea if it’s still there or someone pinched it…)

And $300? Nope. Wouldn’t give Alan up for $300,000.

I got “the house is quiet now” on the gaming quiz. I replay Power wash simulator repeatedly because it keeps my hands busy while I listen to audiobooks. If anyone has other games that are mindless/minimal reading, I’m all ears!

  6. Mabry says:

I think Elizabeth Banks may be the perfect Ms Frizzle.

@Glauke, thanks for sharing, that was so funny!
