Welcome back to Cover Awe!
The Gentleman Spy by Georgina North
Cover design by Jennifer Therieau
From Kareni: For a future Cover Awe post.
Claudia: Oh yes, I really like this. Incongruously it reminds me of a watercolor tattoo.
Sarah: Claudia, I had the exact same thought. And the way that the watercolory splotches are partially revealing blocks of written text adds to the intrigue of the image, which I’m presuming matches the book.
A Love Like the Sun by Riss M. Neilson

Lara: I want to be in that picture, basking.
Amanda: Meanwhile, my allergies do not.
Sarah: I think I can smell this cover. It’s extremely sensual in the literal, uh, sense.
Sneezy: I like how horizontal and vertical orientations layering on each other. It’s lovely to look at both ways.
Cover illustration by Emma Leonard
Lara: I love the expression on her face and how she’s sitting in the frame.
Amanda: The whole series has great cover illustrations.
Sarah: I love the color scheme, and the dress. I want to see multiple angles of it, and to see it in motion.
A Whisper of Cardamom by Eleanor Ford
From LML: If a cookbook can be included in Cover Awe, I find this cover so beautiful that I’ll probably buy it in hardcover.
Amanda: It could definitely be a painting on its own.

My favorite is Lethal Lady. Reminiscent of magazine covers from Vogue in the 20s. Gorgeous
My favorite is The Gentleman Spy. I love the way the watercolor effect interacts with the characters’ clothing.
love these beautiful, muted colors.
When I saw the first cover today, I thought, “Ooh, what a lovely cover!” Then I saw that I had sent it in. Kudos to past me.
All of today’s covers are quite attractive.
All gorgeous. That last one makes me realize I don’t know what a lot of spices look like before they’re spices. I think I’m seeing a vanilla orchid, cloves, anise, cardamom, a cinnamon stick, lavender, and ginger, but I’m not sure about the other flowers.
All the covers are lovely, but I truly love the cover of THE GENTLEMAN SPY. I see that it’s a guardian/ward romance, which often – although not always – indicates a large age gap. Those are not my cup of tea, so can anyone tell me the ages of the H/h for this one?
@Susan/DC
According to the sample, the hero is ten years older. He inherited the guardianship when his father died, although he was absent for the first few years of his guardianship due to his work as a spy.
@Kris Bock: Also star anise and the purple flower in the middle is a crocus, which is the source of saffron.
