Lovelight Farms
Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison is $1.99! This is book one in the Lovelight series. I really like these covers and how they all have a theme but are clearly indicative that they’re a series. I’ve also heard good things! Have you read any of Borison’s books?
Two best friends fake date to reach their holiday happily ever after in this first romantic comedy in the Lovelight series.
A pasture of dead trees. A hostile takeover of the Santa barn by a family of raccoons. And shipments that have mysteriously gone missing. Lovelight Farms is not the magical winter wonderland of Stella Bloom’s dreams.
In an effort to save the Christmas tree farm she’s loved since she was a kid, Stella enters a contest with Instagram-famous influencer Evelyn St. James. With the added publicity and the $100,000 cash prize, Stella might just be able to save the farm from its financial woes. There’s just one problem. To make the farm seem like a romantic destination for the holidays, she lied on her application and said she owns Lovelight Farms with her boyfriend. Only…there is no boyfriend.
Enter best friend Luka Peters. He just stopped by for some hot chocolate and somehow got a farm and a serious girlfriend in the process. But fake dating his best friend might be the best Christmas present he’s ever received.

Love, Comment, Subscribe
Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley is $2.49 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Ponto Beach Reunion series. The main characters were frenemies in high school, though agree to collab to help their growing YouTube and streaming channels.
Back in high school, Lily Wang wanted to be popular, but she considered herself lucky to be part of a tight group of oddballs and honors students called the Nerd Herd. Now, at twenty-eight, she feels like she’s finally on the cusp of succeeding as a beauty influencer—if she can hit five million subscribers, brands will take notice and she could get her own makeup line.
Fellow Nerd Herd alum Tobin Bui has had a lot of success as a YouTube gamer. But the road to online stardom has been rocky. First, he disappointed his parents by dropping out of college, and now, after years of pranks, skits, and playthroughs, he’s struggling to come up with new content to satisfy his ever-growing fan base. His agents say he needs cross-audience appeal, a new twist.
When Nerd Herd frenemy Lily approaches Tobin about teaming up to do a video to bolster her brand and reinvigorate his, he agrees. But when their first collab video goes viral, their relationship heats up too. With the whole internet watching, will these two former misfits finally realize they’re perfect together?

The Jasmine Throne
The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri is $2.99! Many of us were big fans of her debut fantasy romance Empire of Sand. This is the first book in her second trilogy, which concluded last month. I’m hoping this has the same balance of fantasy and romance.
Author of Empire of Sand and Realm of Ash Tasha Suri’s The Jasmine Throne, beginning a new trilogy set in a world inspired by the history and epics of India, in which a captive princess and a maidservant in possession of forbidden magic become unlikely allies on a dark journey to save their empire from the princess’s traitor brother.
Imprisoned by her dictator brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical deathless waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin.
Priya is a maidservant, one among several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the Hirana every night to clean Malini’s chambers. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides.
But when Malini accidentally bears witness to Priya’s true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled. One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess seeking to find her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire.

ROUGH TRADE, Book 3 in the Woodbury Boys series by Sidney Bell is $1.99 in the Kindle Store. The series is m/m contemporary and follows 3 young who met in a residential treatment program and they all have dealt with different kinds of trauma. These are stories of resilience and redemption, which I like, but there is a lot of darkness along the way. I found the deal by accident because it doesn’t seem to be on any of the Kindle deal pages (they seem to have secret deals sometimes). I had it on my wish list because I’ve read the other two but was on the fence about whether I wanted to read the 3rd one. I’ve decided to give it a go.

I loved Jasmine Throne and am impatiently waiting for my library hold on book 3 to become available.
Here’s my 5 star GR review – it was one of my top books of 2021.
The queer, feminist epic fantasy inspired by ancient India that I didn’t know I needed. It’s beautifully written, with lots of interesting things to say about power and faith and the hidden costs and perils of both – but it’s immersive and compelling, not at all pedantic.
At first, this reminded me why I used to love epic fantasy and also why I stopped reading it – So. Many. Characters. So. Much. Plot. Once I got into it however, I couldn’t put it down.
There’s a lot going on, with a several sub-plots and many POV characters – and a lot of political violence, resistance and intrigue. But at its heart, it’s the story of two messy, complicated queer women (an exiled princess and a maidservant with a secret) and their dangerous, high stakes relationship. The way it unfolds is just masterful.
It is intense and the violence can be graphic – here’s the author’s content warnings https://tashasuri.com/contentwarn/

Note the 2nd book in the trilogy was less focused on the main relationship in book one and definitely didn’t end on an HFN. But I’m hopeful that we’ll get a hard won HFN at the end of book 3.
I liked Lovelight Farms. It had Hallmark Christmas movie vibe and was fairly low on conflict, with a really adorable romance simmering between the friends. It wasn’t a keep-me-up-all-night page turner for me but more of a pleasant way to end the day.
Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy is on sale for $2.99 at Amazon.

I just finished the third and book in The Burning Kingdoms yesterday and I cannot possibly recommend it enough. The verdant prose, the thorny characters dealing with thornier politics, the horror of violence and the cosmic horror of the gods, the deeply complicated relationships between people who love each other for good or ill (familial and romantic), the vivid and morally grey women supporting each other, the yearning… If you’ve despaired for years over the quality of so much of publishing this is a reminder of what books can actually do when the right author gets a chance.
@cleo it’s hard going in book 3 but the payoff is worth it
*third and final, whoops
For me, Lovelight Farm was kind of a snooze. Nothing terrible about it, but I finally ended up cranking the audiobook up to 2x (I usually listen at about 1.25-1.5x) just to get through it.
