  • Electric Idol

    Electric Idol by Katee Roberts

Electric Idol by Katee Robert is $1.99! It’s also a Kindle Daily Deal. It’s book two in the Dark Olympus series and is a retelling of Psyche and Eros. Are you a fan of the series? Do you have a favorite?

He was the most beautiful man in Olympus.
And if I wasn’t careful, he was going to be my death.

*A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Psyche and Eros that’s as sinful as it is sweet.*

In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there’s always a price to pay. Psyche Dimitriou knew she’d have to face Aphrodite’s jealous rage eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake…or for Aphrodite’s gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow.

Eros has no problem shedding blood. Raised to be his mother’s knife in the dark, he’s been conditioned to accept that he’s more monster than man. But when it comes time to take out his latest target…he can’t do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche’s unexpected kindness, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he binds her to him, body and soul.

Psyche didn’t expect to find herself married to the glittering city’s most dangerous killer, but something about Eros wakens a fire inside her she’s never felt before. As lines blur and loyalties shift, Psyche realizes Eros might take her heart after all…and she’s not sure she can survive the loss.

  • Violet Made of Thorns

Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen

Violet Made of Thorns by Gina Chen is $2.99! I mentioned this in a previous Hide Your Wallet. The book description mentions a morally gray witch and that’s right up my alley.

A darkly enchanting fantasy debut about a morally gray witch, a cursed prince, and a prophecy that ignites their fate-twisted destinies—perfect for fans of The Cruel Prince and Serpent & Dove.

Violet is a prophet and a liar, influencing the royal court with her cleverly phrased—and not always true—divinations. Honesty is for suckers, like the oh-so-not charming Prince Cyrus, who plans to strip Violet of her official role once he’s crowned at the end of the summer—unless Violet does something about it.

But when the king asks her to falsely prophesy Cyrus’s love story for an upcoming ball, Violet awakens a dreaded curse, one that will end in either damnation or salvation for the kingdom—all depending on the prince’s choice of future bride. Violet faces her own choice: Seize an opportunity to gain control of her own destiny, no matter the cost, or give in to the ill-fated attraction that’s growing between her and Cyrus.

Violet’s wits may protect her in the cutthroat court, but they can’t change her fate. And as the boundary between hatred and love grows ever thinner with the prince, Violet must untangle a wicked web of deceit in order to save herself and the kingdom—or doom them all.

  • Dance All Night

Dance All Night by Alexis Daria

RECOMMENDED: Dance All Night by Alexis Daria is $2.99! Elyse read this holiday novella and gave it an A-:

I thought the black moment was a little abrupt due to the light conflict, but overall my love for Nik and for the sheer, sweet fun that was Dance All Night made up for it.

Broadway hotshot Nik Kovalenko is a confirmed bachelor.

Ballroom champion Jess Davenport is a bona fide Scrooge.

Last year, they shared a midnight kiss at a New Year’s Eve party that made both of them believe—briefly—in the magic of the holiday season. The magic was cut short when Nik went on tour the next day, but he never stopped thinking about that kiss—or Jess.

When the holidays roll back around, Nik runs into Jess again. He doesn’t want to spend another year pining for the Scrooge who got away, so he tells Jess he’ll stay if she’ll give him a shot at being her Christmas Present.

Jess thinks he’s full of it, but she agrees to three dates. If Nik can make her believe in holiday magic in a place as un-wintery as Los Angeles—and convince her that he’s ready to stick around—she’ll give him a chance. But he won’t know until New Year’s Eve. If she kisses him at midnight, he’ll have his answer…

  • Three Wishes

    Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley

Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley is $1.99! This is a romance with a paranormal/fantasy element in the form of a genie, though judging by the reviews, the hero ISN’T the genie. Bummer. However, other felt the actual hero was a rather ambiguous figure with a criminal background, but they say his redemption arc is worth it.

When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.

Even with a genie, Lily’s young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).

He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.

Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.

Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.

  1. Wait, what? says:

Three Wishes sounds . . . I’m stuck between “complicated” and “squicky.” Something about her wish for the “perfect” man and his free will is bothering me. Would they have fallen in love without the wish? Would they have ever met without the wish? Was he “impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless” before her wish? And on a side note, why would you wish for your perfect man to be ruthless? Maybe it’s just me, but that doesn’t seem to be a desirable trait . . .
Or perhaps I’m overthinking things a tad! Either way, I don’t think this book is for me 😉

  2. Lena Brassard says:

Ah, the joys of stock art.

WOMAN: *is gorgeous, glowing, and joyous*
MAN: Did I forget to unplug my muscle dehydrator?

This is why we have headless covers.

  3. FashionablyEvil says:

I liked the premise of VIOLET MADE OF THORNS but it was too YA for me at the end of the day (“I love you! I hate you! I love you! Let’s bone! I hate you again!”). Violet also calls the prince “Princey,” which made me grit my teeth every time she did it. However, if YA angst doesn’t bother you and the blurb above appeals, I would give this one a spin.

  4. Karen Kiely says:

Apologies for the self-promotion! If you’re interested in a djinn romance where he is the hero/MMC, I have a novella for you: Wish on a Winter Moon by K. Kiely. It’s set in Alaska, if that appeals. And no, the heroine/FMC doesn’t wish for the perfect man. The book is available from the major book vendors and on Overdrive (so see if your library already has it).

  5. Kareni says:

I can recommend a story where the hero is a djinn ~ Oracle’s Moon by Thea Harrison. It’s a book I’ve read many times!

  6. Susan/DC says:

A.S. Byatt wrote a novella called THE DJINN IN THE NIGHTINGALE’S EYE, made into a movie by George Miller called THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. She is an independent and sensible scholar, no longer young (she’s about 50). While at a conference in Istanbul, she is given a bottle of beautiful “nightingale’s eye” glass by a Turkish friend. Inside it is trapped a huge (and very male) djinn, a magical genie who must grant her 3 wishes in return for his release. Her wishes – she is an expert in fairy and folk tales and in what can go wrong with wishes – are careful and surprising. The story takes the professor and djinn from Istanbul to Toronto and Madison Avenue. The two discover each other’s worlds, with respect and – while not a romance – something more. I liked the novella more than the movie, which digressed in any number of ways, but Swinton and Elba are always worth watching.

This isn’t related to the post, but I am not able to leave a comment where I had hoped. I don’t see the latest podcast episode, 540, on the website. I had hoped to leave a comment on the associated transcript, which is on the website, but the website wouldn’t let me. Is this all just me?

  8. SB Sarah says:

Nope not just you – apologies! The website missed the autoposting, and we’re fixing now. Thank you for the heads up!
