  • A Dangerous Kind of Lady

A Dangerous Kind of Lady by Mia Vincy

A Dangerous Kind of Lady by Mia Vincy is 99c! This is book one in the Longhope Abbey series. Vincy’s books have been positively mentioned in the comments before. I believe Vincy’s writes fade to black scenes, but correct me if I’m wrong!

A desperate situation calls for dangerous deeds…

Proud heiress Arabella Larke has little respect for rules and no time for scruples, not when she faces marriage to a man she loathes and fears.

Determined to save herself, Arabella comes up with a plan: a fake engagement with her childhood nemesis, Guy Roth, Marquess of Hardbury, recently returned home after years away. To Arabella’s surprise, Guy has become strong, honorable, and unexpectedly attractive…but he refuses to even hear her plan.

After leaving England to escape his corrupt, controlling father, Guy has vowed never to do anyone’s bidding again—certainly not Arabella’s. To Guy’s surprise, Arabella has become intriguing, quick-witted, and unexpectedly attractive, but he has enough drama trying to gain custody of his younger sisters, and he wants nothing to do with her dubious schemes.

Until Arabella shows up at his house one night, and Guy finds himself entangled to a dangerous degree…

  • The Replacement Wife

The Replacement Wife by Darby Kane

The Replacement Wife by Darby Kane is $1.99! This was a Hide Your Wallet pick and is a thriller. If you didn’t know, Kane is the pseudonym for romantic suspense author HelenKay Dimon. Have you read Kane’s thrillers?

A domestic suspense novel that asks, how many wives and girlfriends should disappear before your family notices?

Elisa Wright is a mom and wife, living a nice, quiet life in a nice, quiet town. She’s also convinced her brother-in-law is a murderer. Josh has one dead wife and one missing fiancée, and though he grieved for them he starts dating someone new. Elisa fears for that woman’s safety, and she desperately wants to know what happened to her friend, Josh’s missing fiancée.

Searching for clues means investigating her own family. And she doesn’t like what she finds. A laptop filled with incriminating information. Other women.

But when Elisa becomes friends with Josh’s new girlfriend and starts to question things she thinks are true, Elisa wonders if the memories of a horrible incident a year ago have finally pushed her over the edge and Josh is really innocent. With so much at stake, Elisa fights off panic attacks and a strange illness. Is it a breakdown or something more? The race is on to get to the truth before another disappearance because there’s a killer in the family…or is there?

  • Dinner for One

Dinner for One by Sutanya Dacres

RECOMMENDED: Dinner for One by Sutanya Dacres is $3.99! This is also a Kindle Daily Deal. Sarah had Sutanya on the podcast and this is what she has to say about the book:

Sutanya’s book is really moving, and I love memoirs about people who uproot their lives and think about how the place they’ve moved to changes and affects them – and a lot happened in this memoir. I love how much of the book centered around food and there are recipes (one is in my podcast show notes) that I am very eager to try.

From podcast host Sutanya Dacres comes Dinner for One, an unforgettable memoir of how she rebuilt her life after her American-in-Paris fairy tale shattered, starting with cooking dinner for herself in her Montmartre kitchen

When Sutanya Dacres married her French boyfriend and moved to Paris at twenty-seven, she felt like she was living out her very own Nora Ephron romantic comedy. Jamaican-born and Bronx-raised, she had never dreamed she herself could be one of those American women in Paris she admired from afar via their blogs, until she met the man of her dreams one night in Manhattan. A couple of years later, she married her Frenchman and moved to Paris, embarking on her own “happily-ever-after.” But when her marriage abruptly ended, the fairy tale came crashing down around her.

Reeling from her sudden divorce and the cracked facade of that picture-perfect expat life, Sutanya grew determined to mend her broken heart and learn to love herself again. She began by cooking dinner for one in her Montmartre kitchen. Along the way, she builds Parisienne friendships, learns how to date in French, and examines what it means to be a Black American woman in Paris—all while adopting the French principle of pleasure, especially when it comes to good food, and exploring what the concept of self-care really means.

Brimming with charm, humor, and hard-won wisdom, Sutanya’s story takes you on an adventure through love, loss, and finding where you truly belong, even when it doesn’t look quite how you expected.

  • Man Hands

    Man Hands by Sarina Bowen

Man Hands by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby is FREE! I mentioned this on an older Hide Your Wallet. The saucy puns and overall description give me Alice Clayton’s Hudson Valley vibes, which is a series I adore.

He puts the “screw” in screwball comedy…

    BRYNN
At thirty-four, I’m reeling from a divorce. I don’t want to party or try to move on. I just want to stay home and post a new recipe on my blog: Brynn’s Dips and Balls.

But my friends aren’t having it. Get out there again, they say. It will be fun, they say. I’m still taking a hard pass.

Free designer cocktails, they say. And that’s a game-changer.

Too bad my ex shows up with his new arm candy. That’s when I lose my mind. But when my besties dare me to leap on the first single man I see, they don’t expect me to actually go through with it.

    TOM
All I need right now is some peace and quiet while my home renovation TV show is on hiatus. But when a curvy woman in a red wrap dress charges me like she’s a gymnast about to mount my high bar, all I can do is brace myself and catch her. What follows is the hottest experience of my adult life.

I want a repeat, but my flying Cinderella disappears immediately afterward. She doesn’t leave a glass slipper, either—just a pair of panties with chocolate bunnies printed on them.

    But I will find her.

I really liked the Vincy. I think the main thing to know about her books is that they all seem to follow a similar pattern: the first half is full of snappy dialogue and witty banter (which Vincy excels at) and the second half is an emotional trajectory (not as good, although, to be fair, the bar from the first half is set rather high.) I am pretty sure they are not fade to black, but I could be mis-remembering.

Oh, and the villain in this one is perfect, if perhaps too tidily dealt with at the end. He’s creepy in precisely the sort of way that you’re sure is creepy, but if you explained it to someone else, would they agree? The not knowing if you can/should expose him makes him all the creepier.

‘Man Hands’ was LOL for me. 🙂

The Vincy is so worth it!

  6. Stephanie P says:

Love Mia Vinci’s books, which are playful and witty with memorable characters. All four weave through the same group of friends and they are definitely not fade to black.

  7. Katybdubs says:

Strongly agree with the praise for Vincy. One of my favorite discoveries of the last few years. Great dialogue, sharply drawn and wildly imperfect characters, most definitely NOT fade to black and the sexual relationships of the characters in each book don’t follow the same script. Everything in her books feels very rooted in particular characters. I love a spiky heroine, so this one really worked for me.

  8. DonnaMarie says:

All the love for Mia Vincy!!! They’re the kind of book that you suddenly realize, as you’re reading, that you have a huge smile on your face. You finish them with a deep contented sigh. They aren’t published in chronological order. The characters in the second book are a happily married couple in the first book. So, no worries about not having read the others.

  9. Kareni says:

I’ve seen favorable remarks (here perhaps?) on this book which is currently free for US Kindle readers ~
