  • Ravished

    Ravished by Amanda Quick

Ravished by Amanda Quick is $1.99! This is a historical romance with some Beauty and the Beast vibes, which many readers loved. However, other readers felt the heroine’s characterization was a bit inconsistent with constant mood changes. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Have you read this one?

From the cozy confines of a tiny seaside village to the glittering crush of the a fashionable London soiree comes an enthralling tale of a thoroughly mismatched couple . . . poised to discover the rapture of love.

There was no doubt about it. What Miss Harriet Pomeroy needed was a man. Someone powerful and clever who could help her rout the unscrupulous thieves who were using her beloved caves to hide their loot. But when Harriet summoned Gideon Westbrook, Viscount St. Justin, to her aid, she could not know that she was summoning the devil himself. . . .

Dubbed the Beast of Blackthorne Hall for his scarred face and lecherous past, Gideon was strong and fierce and notoriously menacing. Yet Harriet could not find it in her heart to fear him. For in his tawny gaze she sensed a savage pain she longed to soothe . . . and a searing passion she yearned to answer. Now, caught up in the Beast’s clutches, Harriet must find a way to win his heart–and evade the deadly trap of a scheming villain who would see them parted for all time.

  • Status Update

    Status Update by Annabeth Albert

Status Update by Annabeth Albert is $2.99! This is a gay romance with some nerdy, gaming elements and some forced proximity. Sarah gave the romance a B-:

The conflict and distance the characters have to travel emotionally and geographically to make their relationship work kept me reading until the end, but there were several chapters I had to push myself through because of pacing, overly-sweet dialogue, or downright purple prose.

Adrian Gottlieb is winning at life. He’s a successful video game designer with everything a man could ask for, including a warm comfy ride to Denver and a date for his sister’s wedding. But he finds himself in need of a total reboot when he’s left stranded at a snowy campground in Utah. Holiday plans? Epic fail.

That is until Noah Walters offers him shelter for the night and a reluctant cross-country ride. Nothing about the ultraconservative geoarchaeologist should attract Adrian, but once he discovers Noah’s hidden love for video games, the two connect on a new level. Soon, a quiet but undeniable chemistry sparks.

Something doesn’t add up, though. As the miles accumulate and time runs out, Noah must face the most difficult choice of his life. Meanwhile, Adrian must decide whether he’s ready to level up. Is their relationship status worth fighting for, or has this game ended before it’s even begun?

Scandal of the Season by Christie Kelley

Scandal of the Season by Christie Kelley is $1.99! This is the fourth book in the Spinster Club series and features a holiday setting and a fake relationship. Be warned as some of the reviews mention elements of dubious consent. If you’ve read this one, definitely leave a comment. All of the other books in the series are discounted as well.

    A Daring Charade…

For ten years, Anthony Westfield, Viscount Somerton, hasn’t been able to forget the woman with whom he spent one scandalous night. When their paths cross again, he’s shocked to discover Victoria Seaton is an accomplished pickpocket. But Somerton leads a double life of his own. Working on an undercover assignment, he makes Victoria a proposition: pretend to be his mistress or risk ruin. Yet soon he’s tempted to turn their charade into reality—and surrender to an explosive passion.

    A Holiday To Remember…

Victoria can’t believe the man who almost destroyed her life a decade ago is now threatening to unravel her secrets. But posing as his mistress at a holiday country party is a game she can play well. For just one look into Somerton’s eyes still weakens her with lust. And with Christmas fast approaching, every kiss they share under the mistletoe only makes Victoria fall more deeply in love.

  • Siri, Who Am I?

Siri, Who Am I? by Sam Tschida

Siri, Who Am I? by Sam Tschida is $2.99! Carrie gave this one a B:

Don’t miss the beautiful Bachelor shout out and the sharp insights on the many lies we tell others and ourselves, consciously and unconsciously, as we try to survive in a difficult world. It’s going on my keeper shelf as a fun comfort read.

A Millennial with amnesia uses her Instagram account to piece together her identity in this hilarious and whip-smart comedy about the ups and downs of influencer culture.

Mia might look like a Millennial but she was born yesterday. Emerging from a coma with short-term amnesia after an accident, Mia can’t remember her own name until the Siri assistant on her iPhone provides it. Based on her cool hairstyle (undercut with glamorous waves), dress (Prada), and signature lipstick (Chanel), she senses she’s wealthy, but the only way to know for sure is to retrace her steps once she leaves the hospital. Using Instagram and Uber, she arrives at the pink duplex she calls home in her posts but finds Max, a cute, off-duty postdoc supplementing his income with a house-sitting gig. He tells her the house belongs to JP, a billionaire with a chocolate empire. A few texts later, JP confirms her wildest dreams: they’re in love, Mia is living the good life, and he’ll be back that weekend.

But as Mia and Max work backward through her Instagram and across Los Angeles to learn more about her, they discover an ugly truth behind her perfect Instagram feed, and evidence that her head wound was no accident. Did Mia have it coming? And if so, is it too late for her to rewrite her story?

  1. Mary Pagones says:

Ravished is a fun read, but I agree the heroine’s characterization does feel a bit like “tee-hee, I am a very serious person because fossils,” and the hero is a bit brutish for my taste.

  2. Erin says:

Kink Camp: Hunted by Adriana Anders is $0.99 today!

  3. Jcp says:

    Free:
Little Lies by Helen Harding (his parents were the main characters in Lie For a Lie). I’m not sure I’m ready to read about the kids of the All in series having sex yet, personally.

  4. Maria says:

I enjoyed RAVISHED. I love Beauty and the Beast stories and found this one hit the spot nicely.

  5. Lisa F says:

I have a fondness for old school Quick, and I think i remember enjoying Ravished.

  6. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Jcp: I just finished Karla Sorensen’s Ward Family series where characters who were children in the first book (published a few years ago) have now fallen in love, gotten married, had kids, etc. I had to make a determined effort to tell myself that the 26-year-old hero of THE CRUSH was NOT the young brother who appeared as an eighth year-old in the Ward Sisters books!

  7. Lynn S says:

I absolutely loved Ravished by Amanda Quick! It’s a classic and one of my all time favorite romances. I rarely hand out 5 stars but Ravished is a 5 star novel. The romance really works but it also is a well plotted mystery. It does it all!

  8. Penny says:

Late to the convo, but I also enjoyed Ravished, because I love an archeologist of any gender, Beauty and the Beast vibes, and I enjoy old skool Amanda Quick.

That being said, I actually don’t think I’d like this if I read it now with zero nostalgic fondness for Quick’s earlier works. It’s just that my very very first romance was Dangerous and I have a completely immovable love for her work of that era (90s/early aughts).

I am very aware that this is the era of a thousand broody handsome dukes/earls and heroines who are Not Like Other Women. And of course always privileged, always white, always straight, etc. Now? Probably wouldn’t read. Then? Quick was my favorite and stood unchallenged in my romance genre stack for a solid chunk of time.

    Very very much ymmv here!

  9. Jean Lamb says:

Actually, I very much enjoyed the bit of ‘yes, yes, lovely diamond necklace, quite glittery, really–oh wait! That’s a fossil of an ENTIRE JAW’ See, I know these people and they have their *priorities*.
