I think fans of Pride and Prejudice will enjoy this novel, although it may not be very enjoyable for anyone who hasn’t read the original as we are expected to know this characters.

Some readers were conflicted about the fact that the hero was indeed ready to marry his fiancee before everything went tits up. A couple of the later books in this series are also on sale.

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder is $1.99! It seems the book had another cover change. I’m eh on it. Lara wrote a Keeper Shelf review for this one and I agree with everything!

It’s been a while since I last re-read Poison Study. I did love it. Initially a little concern about the main relationship but not once I was into the book. Great world building, keeps you on your toes. Headed off to re-read as soon as the laundry is done. Or maybe sooner.
I enjoyed GETAWAY GIRL a lot, now I can get the other three in the series for less than $6. Thanks, Amanda.
I’m another who enjoyed Poison Study; I’ve reread it a time or five. (I’ve also read many of the author’s other books but this remains my favorite.)
I really enjoyed Getaway Girl as I was reading it (in one sitting) but it completely fell apart for me the second I thought about it after finishing. Among other things (incl hero being ready to marry his fiancé ) the thing that bothered me the most was that the heroine has NO friends in the narrative and her financial/employment situation is completely hand-waved away. I can’t re-read it because now I can’t see anything else but a totally isolated heroine with no real direction in life getting insta-attached to a really driven hero.
@Egged: Addison was isolated and had no friends or direction. Except for her grandmother and now Elijah, she’s alone. IIRC, her grandmother left Addison her Christmas(?) business and maybe that was how she would carry on? Your points are on target, still looking forward to reading the rest.
I thought Poison Study was extremely good. The next two books were a little weaker, but still pretty good. Unfortunately, the Opal trilogy (and Opal being extremely, extremely sadly stupid and getting together with a bad guy romantically) ruined the author for me forever. Sigh. So, be forewarned if you read the books, only read the Study, not the Glass ones.
I found the hero’s behavior in GETAWAY GIRL to be pretty red flaggy—I can’t quite recall the details, but it’s definitely in the vein of “things that appear like big romantic gestures but are actually quite controlling.” (I think maybe he throws out some of her furniture?) Anyway, combined with Addison’s isolation, if it had been any genre other than a romance, I would have been waiting for that shoe to drop. As it is, I file it under, “healthy boundaries are good for everyone! You should get some!”
I remember liking Poison Study, but not so much the other two books. I felt that there were minor signs in the first book that the character was the author’s overly cool self-insert. When we got to the later books, the signs were no longer minor. I think a lot of heroines get unfairly tagged as Mary Sues, but I got really frustrated with the heroine by the third book, enough so that I didn’t touch the author’s subsequent work.
@Jennifer – I only read the Opal trilogy, not realising that it was a sequel trilogy, and I was so appalled by it that I will never be able to read the Poison trilogy now. The only reason I finished it was that I kept thinking the author couldn’t possibly really be going to… but yes, yes she was.

That’s actually exactly what I ended up doing (skipping Opal), glad to hear that was the right decision. It was a head scratcher to me, that the publisher/author would insert a whole other character trilogy into the middle of a long series.
I read Getaway Girl on Saturday. The furniture thrown out belonged to the hero, who did so because the heroine was uncomfortable with the idea of sleeping in a bed purchased by hero’s former fiancee for their marital home. After six years in NYC (where she was described as a “party girl”), Addison was newly returned to town following the death of the grandmother who raised her. She had her grandmother’s apartment to live in, stepped into running her grandmother’s business, and the ability to employ two part-time employees and the need to create new inventory indicates that the business was able to support her.
Addison was open to meeting new people and socialized with a female friend of the hero. When she was felled by the flu, the hero swooped in, took her to her home, and arranged for assistance. I thought the book was great as was the second in the series, Runaway Girl. Runaway Girl is the story of the former fiancee and it manages to be both poignant and humorous.
