Overall, this was a really fun read, especially if you enjoy stories about writers and writing. I liked the humour, and I really enjoyed the friendship between M.E. and Savannah. While I had some (ok, many) misgivings about their professional relationship, I found their romantic relationship both convincing and charming.
Savannah Cade is a low-level editor at Pennington Publishing, a prestigious publisher producing only the highest of highbrow titles. And while editing the latest edition of The Anthology of Medieval Didactic Poetry may be her day job, she has two secrets she’s hiding.
One: She’s writing a romance novel.
Two: She’s discovered the Book Nook—a secret room in the publishing house where she finds inspiration for her “lowbrow” hobby.

The book is amazing! It’s laugh-out-loud funny in some parts. The writing is wonderful.

I have Kings of the Wyld on deck for a re-read. (For context, there are maybe 10 books that I ever re-read in full.)
Those off-center cards on Pink Dress are Stressing Me Out.
I adored Kings of the Wyld as I am a total sucker for “getting the band back together” stories. Highly recommend if you dig T. Kingfisher’s darkish fantasy.
KINGS OF THE WYLD is the best most original entry into the sword & sorcery genre in ages. It’s The Rolling Stones or The Who touring in their seventies. Sure the music is still great, but the bodies ain’t what they used to be. It has humor and heart and a pretty spectacular body count. The risks are high, no one is ever safe, and you really root for Clay to get home to his family. Highly recommend it. The sequel, BLOODY ROSE, is equally satisfying if a bit more melancholy in the end.
MEET IN THE MARGINS was fairly enjoyable if you can accept that Savannah really doesn’t instantly know who has invaded her hiding place. Also went a little meta at the end. It was a low stress, low stakes read.
I loved Dalliances and Devotion SO MUCH. Get it if you don’t have it! But the other picks are good too. That isn’t my favorite Enoch, but every Enoch is a good Enoch IMO.
Seeing Meet Me in the Margins here today, I wondered why I didn’t buy and read it following Catherine’s review. So I re-read her review, and the comments, and remembered why.
I’m also thinking about how “secret room in the publishing house where she finds inspiration” manages to avoid plagiarism. Huh. Maybe I’m just grouchy today.
So happy to see the love for KINGS OF THE WYLD.
I read MEET ME IN THE MARGINS last week and it was OK? There isn’t a specific thing that bothered me, but I felt that so much was obvious to the reader, perhaps Savannah might have picked up a few clues. Still a fun read.
