Testing Some Image Weirdness in our Feed

Howdy y’all! I’ve noticed that images in posts are showing up in the RSS feed email as duplicates, which is weird.

And often the most effective way for me to test a potential bug is to attempt to create it on purpose.

I’m not sure what’s going on, so I’m writing up some words (like these!) and then dropping in random images. Still and animated! Big Fun!

An Orange tabby sits on a t shirt quilt in progress laid out on the floor

Here’s Wilbur sitting on my latest quilt project, a t-shirt quilt of my younger child’s outgrown favorite shirts. The shirts are joined into blocks by the printed blue flannel.

And here’s a meme I saved because it cracked me up!

An illustration of Alice in wonderland having tea with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz in blue dresses with white pinafores. Alice is looking at her teacup saying I've seen some weird shit.

So thanks for reading my attempts to test out the feed images in the daily email. Now back to your regular Bitchery mayhem. Take care of yourself and have a soothing day!

welp, all the images were duplicated in my rss feed (seen on Feedly), with no attempt to hide the spoiler image.

  2. SB Sarah says:

Well, then! That’s very useful info – thank you. Do the spoiler tags usually work for you on Feedly? Thank you!

  3. Karen Lauterwasser says:

In the emailed to me version, I had a big blank, followed by your posted images. I’d say the blank was the duplicate that didn’t show up somehow. When I clicked on “read more”, the post looked as it should (no extra blank, single images where they belong).

I’d love to hear more about the t-shirt quilt. It’s something I’ve been thinking of doing myself.

Apple desktop, with one functioning spoiler, two images, no blank space or duplicates.

Thank you for the feedback and reports, y’all! This helps me a lot. RSS feeds absolutely baffle me.

@Karen: T shirt quilting turned out to be pretty simple. I bought a few yards of interfacing to iron on and prevent the shirts from curling up once I cut the designs off the front, and then measured all the squares/rectangles I had. Since they’re shirts from probably age 10 until 14, I had variable widths on the design, so I bought some flannel (the blue patchwork looking parts are the flannel) and added to both sides of each shirt so that they were all equal widths. Some shirts were aligned in the middle, and some to the right or left, which makes for a sort of goofy, dynamic design that I liked a lot.

I sewed the shirts into columns, then sewed the columns together and added borders with the same fabric. Once I decided how I was going to streamline the widths to one measurement, adding to each shirt to reach the width I wanted was easy, and the top came together very quickly. Next it’s off to the long armer. Minky fabric was requested for the back, and my home machine does Not Like minky, but the long armer near me loves working with it.

As far as I can recall my “in email” version always shows spoilers & gifs. Not so if I view on the website, then I have to click for spoilers. In this test the shots showed up once but there’s a large white space before each one.
    Good luck!

Feedly user here. All images were duplicated. There was a non-clickable text of “spoiler option” then two images. I can screen shot it for you if that would help.

  8. C says:

The image behind the spoiler tag on the post shows up as the the little preview image for the post on the main page for me, which doesn’t seem like the desired behavior.

I’m only seeing one copy of each image. And I love the meme.

I’m on my phone, Android, Chrome browser.

  9. Lisa D says:

Jumping on the one gif, you want to read a fabulous book with Dorothy, Alice, and Wendy, read Cheshire Crossing (graphic novel).

  10. Emily C says:

@Lisa D- omg, I saved that gif and then immediately went and bought Cheshire Crossing as it sounds like exactly the sort of book my daughter and I will both love. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Sarah, I read my emailed newsletter in the yahoo app this morning and was confused. I thought you put the pics in twice to test. When I read post on the site through Google I saw only one pic and understood what you are doing. It’s been a week. Hope you find the glitch.

Off topic, with news and work, I needed an escape last night and listened to the cover snark podcast you and Amanda did. Thank you. I still think the people on the first cover infected Kevin which is why they are locked in the sewer.
