The Last Graduate brought me 100000% more joy than any other book this year! Partly because I didn’t get the memo that the Scholomance books were going to be a trilogy and I was pumped for the second book in a duology, but I’ll survive!
Finding my Joy of Cooking book in a storage box!! That brought me joy!! (it’s been missing for awhile)
I loved Lizzie and Dante by Mary Bly (actual name of Eloisa James) because it was joyful and bittersweet. Her love island of Elba shines through and made me want to travel there.
Battle Royal by Lucy Parker brought me joy this year.
The Lady Has a Past by Amanda Quick gave me all the feels. It will be on my comfort reads list for sure.
Most recently, Alexis Hall’s Murder Most Actual. I remembered enough of the game Clue, that this had extra layers of meaning.

Quit like a Millionaire gave me a lot of hope since I am so far behind in retirement savings. I loved the LeAnne Leeds’ Mystic End cozy mysteries. I also found a bunch of childhood favorites at a book sale and have been enjoying them. There were almost 200 in the historial series and I read about half of them when I was in grade school, and now enjoying them again.
Kingfisher’s Paladin books: the first two
I was blindsided by Kylie Scott’s REPEAT. So fun and thought-provoking. Also, an honorable mention goes to Michelle Smart’s TAMING THE NOTORIOUS SICILIAN (Harlequin Presents).
Incredible joy was brought to me by Protecting Caroline, by Susan Stoker. And also Falling, by T.J. Newman. The first for the feels and the second for the adrenaline.
Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrew, although Battle Royale was fabulous, too. This year was a great year for reading!
Recently read Not Here to by Liked by Michelle Quach, & it was delightful 🙂
Bring on the Blessings by Beverly Jenkins. I mentioned why in a Whatcha Reading post, and in a post for another contest, but for those who didn’t see those, it basically boils down to this: I only read her historical romances, and didn’t think I would enjoy the contemporary books as much. That was until my best friend convinced me to try the first one, and I got the same feelings as I did when I read Indigo my first historical.
The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels. I’ve read a ton of books this year but this was my favourite for its total commitment to balls to the wall, hair on fire ,mad as a bag of weasels, bananapants wackiness. Also much love to Olivia Dade. ❤️
Tuseday Mooney Talks to Ghosts by Kate Racculia brought me great joy, as it broke me out of a reading slump! It was funny and sad and I read it in one day!
I loved “Blood Heir” by Ilona Andrews. It was one of the earliest books of the year but a much anticipated one and made my week when it came out.
Too Good to Be Real brought me joy.
It wasn’t published this year, but I read Milla Vane’s “A Heart of Blood and Ashes” in 2021, and now I’m eagerly awaiting more in the series.
I very much enjoyed rereading “How to marry a marquis” by Julia Quinn
An Illusion of Thieves, which prompted the strongest of Good Book Noises™ AND managed to be the Gentleman Bastards concept but better in every way and with characters I actually liked and wanted to win.
Scanning my 2021 book spreadsheet, I realized that I read more mysteries than usual this year. But the book that filled me with the most joy was Xeni (Rebekah Weatherspoon).
I really loved The Hating Game – Sally Thorne.
Mostly because it also brought me to Second First Impressions. I know a lot of people didn’t like this title, but Ruthy really resonated with me. I’ve read it 3 times this year.
Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews!
There were so many good books! One that brought me most joy was Last Guard by Nalini Singh. I may go and re-read it again.
The Bridgerton Collection Volume 1 by Julia Quinn. I saw the series on Netflix and had to reread it after many, many, many years. I enjoyed both the book and the Netflix series. I actually just started r watching the series again.
