  • Clean Sweep

    Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews

Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews is $2.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. I’ve heard good things about this book and it has a mix of scifi and paranormal elements, and I really don’t know why I’m dragging my feet on reading this series. It isn’t price-matched yet, but maybe later!

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is…different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, “normal” is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night…Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans—an alpha-strain werewolf—and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she’s facing is unlike anything she’s ever encountered before. It’s smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

  • The Unleashing

    The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston

RECOMMENDED: The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! Sarah loves this paranormal romance series. She did a little drive by squee for this one during a review for the second book, The Undoing:

Feared Viking blacksmith (of sorts) in the Raven clan has a massive crush on a former Marine who is reborn as a Crow. (Bonus: Ravens giving him shit about his crush, and his ability to admit easily that he really likes her: ALL the thumbs, all of them up.)

    WINGING IT

Kera Watson never expected to face death behind a Los Angeles coffee shop. Not after surviving two tours lugging an M16 around the Middle East. If it wasn’t for her hot Viking customer showing up too late to help, nobody would even see her die.

In uncountable years of service to the Allfather Odin, Ludvig “Vig” Rundstöm has never seen anyone kick ass with quite as much style as Kera. He knows one way to save her life—but she might not like it. Signing up with the Crows will get Kera a new set of battle buddies: cackling, gossiping, squabbling, party-hearty women. With wings. So not the Marines.

But Vig can’t give up on someone as special as Kera. With a storm of oh-crap magic speeding straight for L.A., survival will depend on combining their strengths: Kera’s discipline, Vig’s loyalty… and the Crows’ sheer love of battle. Boy, are they in trouble.

  • The Curse of Lord Stanstead

The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe

RECOMMENDED: The Curse of Lord Stanstead by Mia Marlowe is $3.99! In fact, all three books in the series are at that price if you’re missing one. This is a historical romance with magic and Elyse gave this book a B+:

The Curse of Lord Stanstead is a good fit for readers who are burned out on straight Regency romances and need a dash of spice, or for paranormal readers who are sick of brooding vampires.

    When only seduction will do…

Wherever Cassandra Darkin goes, fire is sure to follow. It’s not until she’s swept into the arms of a handsome, infuriating stranger that she learns she’s responsible for the fires. As it turns out, Cassandra is a fire mage…and with her gift comes a blazing desire for sins of the flesh.

With his pretenatural ability to influence the thoughts of others, Garrett Sterling is sent to gather Cassandra for the Order of the M.U.SE. He’s entirely unprepared for his immediate attraction to the comely little firestarter. But it’s an attraction that he must quell, even as his body craves her touch and her fiery, sensual hunger.

For Garrett’s gift has a dark side…and the moment he begins to care too much for Cassandra, he knows he will doom her to an inescapable fate.

  • Marine for Hire

Marine for Hire by Tawna Fenske

Marine for Hire by Tawna Fenske is $2.99! This is more of a novella-length contemporary (a little less than 250 pages), but the rest of the series is also on sale. You can grab all four books for less than $12. The heroine is a divorced, single mother, who has sworn off men in the military. The hero is a great friend of the heroine’s brother (we know how that goes), who’s playing nanny temporarily. Readers love the heroine and her relationship with the people around her, while others felt the book was rather forgettable. Have you read this one?

She thought she’d sworn off military men for good…

Sam Kercher is every inch a wickedly hot Marine. Tall. Sexy. Lethal. When his best friends call in a favor, Sam is forced to face an entirely new line of duty—playing nanny for their newly divorced sister and her squirming seven-month-old twin boys. If Sam can dissemble an M16 in his sleep, diaper duty should be a cakewalk…right?

Unfortunately, Operation Nanny isn’t quite that simple. Sheridan has sworn off overbearing military men, so Sam must protect her from her dirtbag ex without revealing just how much he has in common with her brothers. Or that he’s been ordered not to touch her. Ever. Problem is, Sheri’s one hell of a gorgeous woman, capable of making this hard-bodied marine even harder. And Sam wants her bad.

Protect the girl. Care for the babies. Hide his identity. And keep his hands off. But even the most disciplined Marine has weaknesses…and Sheridan is one Sam might not be able to resist.

There was SO MUCH I liked about the Call of Crows series…then it ended on a cliffhanger in the epilogue of book 3.

Also the portrayal of a death deity (Hel) as being evil annoyed me.

    @varianross
I’m hoping the author will drop a surprise release for the series. I thought the Honey Badger series was done and a book came out this year.

  3. Mzcue says:

Ilona Andrews’ Innkeeper series is delightful, up among my favorites. Each book was more engaging than the last. The series is unrelated to IA’s Kate Daniels or the Hidden Legacy worlds. There’s magic, interplanetary craziness, an inn that leaves Tardis in the dust, wonderfully odd beings, and smart, appealing main characters and adventure. There is an arc of questions yet to be answered stretching over the stories, but each book has a satisfying resolution. I would dearly love to be sitting down for the first time to encounter Clean Sweep and the rest. The series is an annual reread for me. Highly recommended.

  4. Carole says:

Clean Sweep Series by Ilona Andrews is amazing – fascinating characters and wonderful magic as the Inn Building is sentient and changes and adapts to Dina’s intention. Really love the later stories with Dina’s sister as well. Highly recommend.

  5. Mzcue says:

@Carole I agree that the later stories with Dina’s sister Maud are fabulous. My very favorite? Maud’s daughter/Dina’s niece Helen a tiny, fierce six year old, heroic from the get-go. Charming and unstoppable. And not entirely human.
