Happy Third Night of Hanukkah!
This giveaway bundle comes from Elyse, who gathered some lovely, lovely knitting and crafting items!
Here’s what’s inside, per Elyse:
-
- A project bag in Hanukkah fabric from Silver Bird Studios
- The mug is by Pawley Studios and sold by my favorite LYS, Fibre. I love these mugs because they keep stuff really hot or cold. I actually drink my iced coffee in them.
- The yarn is by Dye Mad yarns. It’s 2 skeins of worsted weight in their colorway Happy Challah Days and is a blend of super wash merino and alpaca
- And then the coffee I found at Rhinebeck from Knit Coffee Company. It’s their Knitter’s Blend, unground.
Ed. note: HAPPY CHALLAH DAYS I LOVE IT.

Winner update: Congratulations to Carrie! Please check your inbox shortly.
I started the year cross stitching for my new grandson, who was born in February. I made a birth sampler, and stitched a hooded towell. That was followed by challah covers which were wedding presents for friends.
I made 80% of the recipes from the My Shanghai cookbook, completed my first quilt, and put together a lightweight field painting kit that’s led to some really sweet plein air studies this year. Excited to make those last few recipes and figure out how to paint outside in winter without going full popsicle!
When I’m stressed I crochet (mostly blankets), so that’s how I started 2021. In autumn I took over a class of 14yo. To celebrate their birthdays, I do ocean-themed amigurumi. The kids seem pretty happy and it’s been a lot of fun.
I’ve been crocheting octopuses for preemies.
I have very slowly been cross-stitching a tote bag.
I made friends with my local handweaver’s guild! They helped me figure out what I need to get started. I am looking to receiving my first loom for Christmas.
I am a very amateur knitter, but I did manage to teach my daughter to knit and we made a couple of little knitted coasters.
I’m not a knitter, but I “made” lots of delicious meals in the Instapot this year. Does that count? (P.S., if my name is drawn, have no fear, the gift will definitely be used by my knitting daughter, @Queen Victoria.)
I’m not finished yet, but I’ve been working on hand quilting a queen sized quilt, and made some good progress on it in 2021!
If baking counts as making things (and I’m sure it does), I’ve also learned how to make bagels and croissants from scratch this year.
I am an intermediate-level but slow knitter working on a log cabin Afghan that’s so pretty but so time consuming!
In order to calm my anxiety, I started knitting in February (from @DDD’s advice). It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. It gives me a creative outlet and a project to focus on. I began with blankets, but I knit my first cardigan by May, and I’ve made a couple sweaters. It’s great to feel excited about expanding my skill set or seeing how happy my friends are when I can make them gifts truly from the heart. Thank you for a great giveaway opportunity!
I have knit a record 3 shawls this year.
I filmed a mask sewing demonstration for work. I have always wanted to learn to knit.
I made my bed. Does that count?
I got a floor loom this year and spent it working on dish towels and scarves. Getting ready to start cloth to make pillow covers.
I’ve knit a lot this year–about 6 sweaters for myself, two giant shawls (mystery KALs), and other accessories. My latest endeavor is learning how to spin–I bought a drop spindle and some wool and made my first skein of yarn.
In Dec 2019 or Jan 2020, there was a SBTB post with a link about temperature blankets and the ilk, and I went down that rabbit hole faster and harder than any rabbit ever. That started me on a crazy huge crochet projects — ones that need spreadsheets and days of calculations to figure out what I’m doing. In 2020, three blankets (two at eight feet long) and a sweater were completed; in 2021 I’ve finished two blankets and I’m working on another one (possibly to be finished by the New Years) for my granddaughter in colors of the trans flag. I blame all this activity on SBTB but also thank you for an incredible way to stim and be useful at the same time. And in technicolor.
I mostly do needlework, but dip into quilting and crochet. I made a throw-sized quilt this summer (machine quilted – I’m so impressed with @Kate hand quilting a queen-sized quilt!), and finished a few cross stitch projects. I’m currently working on crocheting some fingerless gloves for my sister for Christmas. Thanks the SB crew for these great giveaways! Happy Holidays to all, whatever holiday you celebrate!
I made a bunch of sweaters (all those zoom meetings) and also got back into embroidery. I did about a dozen 6″ embroidery hoops.
I am a sock knitter and have made a pair every month so far. I’ve always said I only knit for people I love but that group keeps getting larger and I really need to learn to knit faster!
I did a reborn on a Mandalorian “The Child” doll. Baby Yoda now has a weighted body, detailed face, and wears preemie clothes.
I love to knit socks, so that’s mostly what I’ve made this year. I also finished a cowl and a shawl (using sock yarn, of course)!
After a pandemic knitting drought, I finally wanted to make things again this year. I finished several things that had been on the needles for ages and made a lovely lavender bolero cardigan that I am so happy with. 🙂
I actually finished a scarf that had been a WIP for about three years.
I made the Novi sweater and it is a squishy comfy delight!
I crocheted a happy doughnut.
I haven’t been knitting nearly enough this year, but I’ve made a thoroughly absurd amount of cake. My breakfast cake is now the staple of work meetings.
Knitted socks. Lots of socks. So many pairs, I’m starting to eye strangers on the street for potential sock gifting. (Family and friends are getting saturated!) I also revisited my childhood, and picked up a little 7″ loom and loops, and started making pot holders. Quick, easy, and still fun.
What a great giveaway! I have loved getting back into a fitness routine this year and adding more structure to my days. Also iced coffee.
I made a Merengue (from Animal Crossing) fleece hoodie from scratch! I had realized I make a lot of gifts for people, and while I love doing that, I rarely make anything I get to keep, so I decided making this hoodie would be my gift to myself.
I am not super-crafty (my mom would love this prize, though) but I did make an online Advent calendar for my best friend, who was unable to have Christmas with her family for the first time in 48 years.
Knit a hat and scarf for my son.
Ugh. I’m not doing great on the crafting front this year. I work in healthcare and it’s been a stressful year. I started a very pretty shawl in a light teal yarn but it’s been languishing for months. One of these days I’ll get back on the horse.
I made my first ever sweater! So excited about new yarns.
I haven’t “made” much this year but have been cooking here and there and put together a puzzle earlier this year
Learning to crochet was my early quarantine project. Currently in the midst of making the niblings (nieces and nephews) scarves and hats for Christmas, and am also working on a shawl for my mom, who told me the other day that Frankie (from Grace and Frankie) has her dream wardrobe.
I love to cook and to bake, I don’t have the patience for working with my hands… or the artistry and talent.
I am a knitter and I had some leftover cotton chenille and I started a whole new type of scarf that I had never done before.
The summer reading program at my library asked participants to enter a project for a local themed alphabet book. I incorporated a map of the library and some gelli print pieces in my M is for Map project. I had fun.
Happy Third Night!
Ooh, pretty yarn. This year I’ve been knitting a baby blanket for a coworker.
