Links: Lobsters, Scots, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hey all! I’m so glad you all enjoy the Wednesday Links posts!

This time, I’m honestly uncertain if I’ve posted this before. In fairness, my brain is mush from a stressful week and I’m writing this post-edible. Please take some dear, sweet pity on me.

Thanksgiving is happening in the States soonish. Do you have a favorite dish? I still have a weak spot for canned cranberry jelly.

Firstly, I did not know had a historic LGBTQ+ district. Secondly, in more concerning news, it’s falling apart.

I loved how this turned into a thread of animals surprised by motherhood.

This TikTok definitely awakened some latent memories within me.

Was anyone else so into this photo and then amazed to learn that this lobster woman is over a 100 years old!

Enjoy this Scottish tongue twister!

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Thank you! My Wednesday is kind of stressful (double overlapping Zoom meeting night plus the ever-looming Christmas/New Year’s wave of obligations) and I kept saying “just hang on until Wednesday links. It will have something awesome. And it did!

I love all of them, but Pure Moods TikTok lady is my favorite! With befuddled cats not far behind. (Many days of parenthood are like that).

  2. Escapeologist says:

I was JUST listening to that Enigma song this morning. It sure is a mood. Tiktok lady = guaranteed to improve your mood.

The Scottish tongue twister is glorious. Reminds me of Kevin Bridges saying “I bought a horse” on Would I Lie To You?

I came across this interview JAK/Jayne Castle did discussing her new Harmony book. She said there was a gap in publication because she was busy developing her 1930s series but the series will continue which I was glad to hear. It had been so long that I’d worried she was done with it.

Pengwings. Much needed snort laughs at a second level YouTube link that came up while watching the wonderful “purple burglar alarm” to “Benedict Cumberbatch Can’t Say ‘Penguins’ – The Graham Norton Show on BBC America”. It’s hilarious but you need to watch to the end! Before that is Cumberbatch doing the voices of Smaug AND JarJar Binks. Did I ever need those laughs.

If you like Scottish accents there’s “Flour Power” – kind of a bake-off, where they pull four people from one office and have them contribute goodies to a bake sale (there are other goodies, but only the four are in the competition). There are two judges who taste what the four have made and name a winner … who gets the coveted prize. It’s a three-tier gold-colored thing (don’t know the word) that can be used to display and serve goodies. It’s half an hour of bad jokes, good baking and Scottish accents (the narrator, judges and most of the competitors are Scots).

  6. Maureen says:

@Todd-where do you watch Flour Power? It sounds great!

I’m getting my master’s in historic preservation and I was so excited to share that Vice article about Druid Heights with my class this week. There’s really no excuse for the Park Service to be neglecting it the way it has. The district tells a story that that doesn’t often get told in my field and I think it could be such a cool resource!

Even if your local library or schools are not currently under siege by reactionaries, it’s good to lay the groundwork and support these organizations.

  9. Todd says:

For anyone interested, Flour Power turns up on (broadcast) PBS – WETA UK for me.

  10. Maureen says:

Thanks @Todd-my search of Flour Power was bringing up a show about milling in Minnesota! Not that the show wouldn’t be interesting, but Scottish accents and I’m there!

  11. Maureen says:

Forgot-the picture of the lobsterwoman is awesome for many reasons. I love the offhand way she is tossing the lobster, and his posture is like “I’m free, I’m free!”. Also learned a new word to me, yeeting. Is that an East Coast word?

  12. footiepjs says:

Yeet is a word popularized by a 2014 Vine. “This bitch empty. YEET!”
