  • The Heiress Hunt

The Heiress Hunt by Joanna Shupe

The Heiress Hunt by Joanna Shupe is $1.99! This is book one in Shupe’s latest historical romance series. Elyse recently reviewed this one and gave it a C-. I think Elyse and I both agree that Shupe does a wonderful job about giving us tantalizing sequel bait.

    High society reprobate.
    An unconventional heiress.
    Childhood friends.

    Is it too late…

Knickerbocker scoundrel Harrison Archer returns to New York to discover that his deceased father has bankrupted his estranged family. To save them from ruin, he’s forced to quickly find and marry an heiress. For a matchmaker, Harrison turns to the one woman he wishes he could marry: his childhood friend and true love, Maddie, who once broke his heart and is now engaged to a duke.

    For true love?

When her best friend Harrison left for Paris without a word, Maddie Webster took refuge in her infatuation with tennis. Now Harrison is back and needs her help in finding a bride. Begrudgingly, Maddie arranges a house party in Newport with a guest list of eligible heiresses. But watching Harrison flirt with potential brides is more than she can bear.

When Harrison and Maddie reunite, the passion between them ignites. But with their marriages to others looming, time is running out. Is their fate inescapable . . .or can love set them free?

  • Dragon Actually

    Dragon Actually by GA Aiken

Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken is 99c! This is the first book in the Dragon Kin series, which many praise for having kickass heroines. It also looks like the book has a new cover, which I’m not really loving. I apparently read this book according to my Goodreads, but I remember next to nothing about it.

It’s not always easy being a female warrior with a nickname like Annwyl the Bloody. Men tend to either cower in fear – a lot – or else salute. It’s true that Annwyl has a knack for decapitating legions of her ruthless brother’s soldiers without pausing for breath. But just once it would be nice to be able to really talk to a man, the way, she can talk to Fearghus the Destroyer.

Too bad that Fearghus is a dragon, of the large, scaly and deadly type. With him, Annwyl feels safe – a far cry from the feelings aroused by the hard-bodied, arrogant knight Fearghus has arranged to help train her for battle. With her days spent fighting a man who fills her with fierce, heady desire, and her nights spent in the company of a magical creature who could smite a village just by exhaling, Annwyl is sure life couldn’t get any stranger. She’s wrong…

  • When You Love a Scotsman

When You Love a Scotsman by Hannah Howell

When You Love a Scotsman by Hannah Howell is $1.99! This is book two in the Seven Brides for Seven Scotsmen series with a road trip element, and the first book is also on sale. I haven’t read this series, but I’m completely curious about the American historical setting and Scottish heroes. Have you read any of these?

New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell sweeps readers away with the passion-filled adventures of the MacEnroy brothers, seven daring Scotsmen who take on America in her most turbulent days—and capture the hearts of the ladies each is destined to wed . . .

With danger closing in from all sides, Abigail Jenson works tirelessly to protect her small Missouri farm. She doesn’t require saving—but a handsome officer appears on horseback just as ruthless marauders set her cabin ablaze. With nowhere else to turn, Abigail allows the soldier with the seductive Highlander’s gaze to escort her to shelter in a nearby town.

Matthew MacEnroy was reluctant to join his adopted nation’s conflict—until an enemy attack wounded two of his brothers. Bravely doing battle has its price when a proud, independent beauty comes under his watch—no military man can risk the powerful emotions their attraction has unleashed. But when Matthew himself is caught in the crossfire, Abigail leads their long journey home to MacEnroy valley . . . and her caring touch sparks the promise of a bold future together

  • Passion for the Game

Passion for the Game by Sylvia Day

Passion for the Game by Sylvia Day is $1.99! This is book two in the Georgia series, which appears to be erotic historical romance. This one was originally published in 2007 and Day typically writes alpha heroes. Could be an acquired taste!

Infamous for satisfying his limitless wants and desires, Christopher is a free man again. And this time he’s on a mission to engage, deceive and seduce the one woman as ruthless as he is when it comes to dangerous games of passion…

Far from innocent in the ways of men, Maria is one step ahead of Christopher’s every move. It doesn’t mean she isn’t enjoying every delicious look, every unbridled kiss, every moment of abandon.

Neither of them could have imagined the moment when they would meet their match—or that they would surrender to each other again and again…

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Anais Nin’s LITTLE BIRDS is a $1.99 KDD today. This is a collection of 13 erotic short stories and was a favorite of my long-ago teenage self.

  2. Batman says:

I’m not sure if it’s intentional, but I really like that the heroine looks taller than the hero on the cover of “When You Love a Scotsman.”

  3. Sarah Peach says:

Last Night With the Earl by Kelly Bowen is a limited time deal at Amazon for $1.99…I had it on my reading list and I’m sure it was a SBTB rec at some point, so I one-clicked it. Has anyone read it?

  4. Annie Kate says:

@Sarah Peach Yes! It’s not my favorite Kelly Bowen–her Scandals series takes that nod–but I remember really liking it. It felt very much in tune with the rest of Bowen’s stuff, if you’ve read anything else by her? Extremely competent heroine, strong feminist subtext/straight-up text, well-done handling of past trauma in both of the leads. CW for past mentions of a lot of gendered and appearance-based bullying, iirc.

  5. JoanneBB says:

My Kindle tells me I’ve read dragon actually but I have zero memory of it. Hm. I guess I’ll re read it?

  6. Sarah Peach says:

Thanks, Annie Kate!! I actually haven’t read any of her other books, but it sounds good. Looking forward to reading it.

  7. AtasB says:

“But just once it would be nice to be able to really talk to a man, the way, she can talk to Fearghus the Destroyer.”
What burrow did those rogue commas pop out of? Or have I missed some new style of punctuation?

  8. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Well, I showed up this morning expecting What Are You Reading?—and, not only is it not here, but every time I open the site Clloudflare tells me it has to check my browser and redirects me after about five seconds (this is happening on both my phone and pad). Also, if I try to use to back arrow to leave a post, I get a question asking if I want to submit a form again. Is the site having technical issues or is it just me? And did I mix up the WAYR dates?

  9. Amanda says:

@DDD: It’s Amanda! The site had a DDOS attack yesterday, so Sarah put extra measures in place. The WAYR post was supposed to go up at 3am, but it’s possible it’s missed it’s scheduled time. It’s an error that happens sporadically.

I’m at my bookstore job and Sarah is out of town, so I won’t be able to check the post and manually make it live until later this evening.

  10. MsCellanie says:

For me, “Dragon Actually” was a bunch of tiny little things where I kept thinking over and over “this is kind of problematic, not enough to make me stop reading but enough to knock it down half a star.” And those tiny things kept adding up to the point where by the end I was not happy with myself for having finished it.

    So, warning for problematic elements.

  11. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Amanda: Thank you for the update. Sorry about the attack—hope all will be resolved soon. Take care.

  12. Maureen says:

@DiscoDollyDeb-Thank you for the comment about the Cloudflare redirect-I am getting the same message but assumed it was a problem on my end.

@Amanda-I’m sorry to hear about the trouble, what a pain that must be.

  13. stylinsonbirds says:

Oh no @ the news about an attack. That must be so stressful!

  14. Kit says:

So it’s not just me then with the cloudflare redirection? I was looking forward to WAYR!

  15. Amanda says:

It looks like the podcast transcript, WAYR, and today’s Books on Sale post all failed to post. It may be related to the DDOS issues from yesterday. They should all be up now.
