  • Buns

    Buns by Alice Clayton

RECOMMENDED: Buns by Alice Clayton is $1.99! This is the third and final book in the Hudson Valley series. I love this trilogy so much and while this one isn’t my favorite of the three, they’re all quite good. It also works find on its own. I have my fingers crossed Clayton will come back to romance some day!

Clara Morgan is living the dream, if you can call rebranding hotels that are desperate for a new life and running any kind of marathon a dream. Which she does. But the career she loves and the endurance races that keep her adrenaline pumping have kept her too busy to put down any roots. Growing up in foster care, she’s never been able to establish traditions of her own, which may be why she’s fascinated by the rituals that generations-old family resorts are known for. She’s especially interested in the Bryant Mountain House, and not just for their secret recipe for the yummy, gooey, can’t-get-enough-of Hot Cross Buns….

Archie Bryant, the man with the Buns, is fifth generation and one-day-owner of the charming yet run-down Bryant Mountain House in Bailey Falls, New York. He’s determined to save his family’s legacy from the wrecking ball the old-fashioned way—by gritting his teeth and doing what needs to be done. There’s no way Archie will be influenced by the new hotel branding expert his father brought in to turn one hundred and fifty years of tradition on its head just to attract a faster, younger, slicker crowd. But when some of Clara’s ideas start bringing in new, paying customers, Archie can’t deny that she may have just given him a shot at keeping his resort open.

    It’s sticky, it’s messy, it’s sweet, it’s Buns.

  • The Lawrence Browne Affair

The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian

The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! This is book two in the Turner Series, though I believe it can be read on its own. Sebastian is a reader favorite when it comes to gay romance and it has a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads. Are you a Sebastian fan? Which book is your favorite?

An earl hiding from his future . . .

Lawrence Browne, the Earl of Radnor, is mad. At least, that’s what he and most of the village believes. A brilliant scientist, he hides himself away in his family’s crumbling estate, unwilling to venture into the outside world. When an annoyingly handsome man arrives at Penkellis, claiming to be Lawrence’s new secretary, his carefully planned world is turned upside down.

    A swindler haunted by his past . . .

Georgie Turner has made his life pretending to be anyone but himself. A swindler and con man, he can slip into an identity faster than he can change clothes. But when his long-dead conscience resurrects and a dangerous associate is out for blood, Georgie escapes to the wilds of Cornwall. Pretending to be a secretary should be easy, but he doesn’t expect that the only madness he finds is the one he has for the gorgeous earl.

Can they find forever in the wreckage of their lives?

Challenging each other at every turn, the two men soon give into the desire that threatens to overwhelm them. But with one man convinced he is at the very brink of madness and the other hiding his real identity, only true love can make this an affair to remember.

  • Paradise Cove

    Paradise Cove by Jenny Holiday

Paradise Cove by Jenny Holiday is $1.99! This is the second book in the Matchmaker Bay series. We’ve heard good things about it and Aarya mentioned it on a previous Hide Your Wallet. If you haven’t start this series yet, you’re in luck because the first book is also on sale!

From the USA Today bestselling “master of witty banter” (Entertainment Weekly) comes a hilarious and heartwarming romance about a big city girl who never expected to find the man of her dreams in the tiny town of Matchmaker Bay.

Dr. Nora Walsh has just been dumped in spectacular fashion, making it the perfect time for a major life change. She figures taking over the medical practice in tiny Matchmaker Bay for a couple of years will help her get over her broken heart, and then she can head back to the big city. But when the first man she sees looks like a superhero god, she wonders if maybe there’s something to small-town living after all.

Jake Ramsey also has a broken heart — one he never expects to heal. He doesn’t need people anyway and is content hiding out in his secluded cottage on the beach. But after helping Nora with a medical emergency, he finds himself opening up to the witty, warmhearted doctor. Soon the local matchmakers are working overtime to pair them off, and Jake begins to wonder if his campaign to get Nora to stay is for the town or because he can’t bear the thought of her leaving.

  • Ruin & Rule

Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters

Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters is $1.99! This is a darker contemporary romance with a billionaire biker hero and one that deserves a lot of trigger warnings. It also ends with a cliffhanger. Reviews on Goodreads mentioned the hero’s MC being involved in trafficking. Whether that’s a “cover” or for real, I have no idea, but I want to make readers aware and I couldn’t find any direct explanations in GR reviews.

“We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . .”

    RUIN & RULE

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she’s lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

I really liked ‘The Lawrence Browne Affair.’ Nice twist on Beauty and the Beast. My favorite Cat Sebastian so far was ‘The Ruin of a Rake.’ Am delighted to see she has a new one coming out soon, because I did a complete read last year and have been whining for more.

  2. LML says:

Those (sesame topped) are not Hot Cross Buns. Gooey is not an attribute of Hot Cross Buns. Who writes these blurbs, anyway?

  3. Laurie says:

Alice is coming back, albeit slowly. She released a novella in the Wallbanger series that was a pure delight. I have missed her terribly and One More Round gave me such joy.

  4. Todd says:

LML – I checked … I’d been looking at the wrong buns.

  5. HeatherS says:

The Turner series are Cat’s first books. I think this one was actually my least favorite in the series, though, despite my great love for Georgie. I agree with @chacha1 that “The Ruin of a Rake” is the best with its cranky cinnamon roll hero, although I have to throw in a good word for Oliver and Jack from “The Soldier’s Scoundrel”. The novella “A Little Light Mischief” would have benefited from being a full length book. I just wanted more of the characters and to see their romance develop more fully.

But I love Cat Sebastian and will read virtually anything she does, even without knowing the plot. 🙂

  6. Karen H near Tampa says:

@LML: Even worse than being incorrectly identified in a blurb is when the grocery store where you buy the Hot Cross Buns that you look forward to every year gets it wrong. They are sold in trays of 9 buns and last year, someone in the Bakery Department put the icing between the buns instead of on their tops. Obviously, we returned them (my partner does the grocery shopping and can be oblivious sometimes) and pointed out that if you actually cut them apart, the individual buns wouldn’t have a cross at all. It’s like nobody cares enough to do a good job anymore. Yes, I know I’m getting grouchier these days but it’s so easy to check things on the Internet, I just don’t get how these awful mistakes keep getting made. And, I loved the Alice Clayton books and look forward to more.

  7. Cristie says:

    Billionaire biker hero? Seriously?

  8. Todd says:

For what it’s worth, I’ve made hot cross buns and if you don’t (1) wait for the buns to cool down and (2) make your icing less liquid than usual the icing will run off the tops of the buns … leaving YOU cross and your buns un-iced.

  9. Lisa F says:

The top three books are very good. Can’t speak to the quality of the MC romance, sadly!

  10. LML says:

@Karen H near Tampa: not Publix?!
