Links: The Nanny, Britney Spears, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hey hey! It’s Wednesday!

How have you all been? The last couple weeks have been an absolute blur. Not sure why. The weather has been stupidly nice here and, so far, not an allergy to be had.

Fingers crossed they’ve flown the coop for good! Let’s get ready for links!

I know we’ve talked about The Nanny and fashion before in Wednesday Links, which is why I went nuts for this interview with the show’s costume designer. Lots of surprising picks on how the designer ranked their top ten outfits, but I loved the behind the scenes details. Tempted to give the show a rewatch!

Thanks to Janice for sending us this link, which is definitely in our house of wheels. I now present to you the 30,000 year history of the dildo. Yes, there are pictures, if you need to be careful about what’s up on your screen.

Sarah: I have a link I found via Tumblr that I’m going to watch the next tie I give myself a manicure. It’s a cartoon from 1975 in Russia. This has been obscure stuff with your host, me.

I hope this little terror finds a home!

Enjoy this mashup of Britney Spears songs from one of my favorite YouTube duos, Pamplamoose.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

If you want to hear more about the fascinating story of how Russian animation was brought to the US, Criminal podcast made an episode about it

(it’s not a very gorey podcast as a rule, and this is quite-soft episode)

Entertainment Weekly just posted this story about film and TV adaptations of romance novels.

As for Eastern-European folk tales, it’s time for me to be a patriot and spread the love for the Hungarian Folk Tales series. It’s on YouTube with English dub, the vibes and visuals are similar to the Russian tale Sarah posted. Episodes are mostly less than 10 minutes. Here’s a compilation video (the first episode is about a cat and it’s called King Kitty – if that doesn’t buy you, nothing will)

I knew we were keeping that HBO Max subscription for a reason now that I’ve binged Great Pottery Throw Down…for the style icon Fran Fine. Definitely time for a rewatch and I think The Nanny could be a great comfort watch for today’s rec league too.

I’m always a bit dubious about articles written about Romancelandia from non-Romancelandia sources, however I thought this article about how the genre (and covers) evolved from the 1970s onward was interesting—especially the information from Loretta Chase and LaVyrle Spencer. (Just a heads-up: the WaPo website s very capricious; the article was not behind a paywall when I first opened it, but it might be the next time I try. You’ve been warned.)

To go with the dildo story, here are places where penises are celebrated and revered (also very NSFW) https://www.scoopwhoop.com/Places-Where-Penis-Is-Worshipped/

And for those who have never seen this (or even if you have, they’ve added a lot of new stuff at the end) a survey of great science fiction films starting in 1902 with George Melies’ A Trip To The Moon
