Contemporary Romances on Sale!

  • Need You Now

Need You Now by Nicole Helm

Need You Now by Nicole Helm is 99c! This is the first book in the Mile High Romance series. It’s a contemporary romance with opposites attract elements. If you like outdoorsy, Helm writes a lot of great ones. Readers seem divided on the hero. Some loved his grumpy nature, while others thought his grumpiness bordered on sad and rude.

    He’s mountain-tough. She’s city-smart. The sparks are about to fly . . .

Only the most resilient of souls could breathe new life into an all-but-forgotten town nestled in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains—but what they get in return might be worth the heartache it takes to make it happen . . .

Gracely, Colorado, was once a booming mining town. No one knows that better than Brandon Evans. His father’s company kept the town thriving for years—until Brandon threatened to expose his illegal practices and drove him away. Everyone blames Brandon and his brother for turning Gracely into a ghost town—but the tenacious residents cling to a long-held legend about the land’s healing powers. And Brandon has a plan to spin that legend into reality . . .

Lilly Preston took a leap of faith and moved to Gracely a year ago to save her nephew from an abusive situation. She would do anything for him, even sacrifice her glamorous job. Reluctantly, the former PR hot shot takes a job at the ruggedly handsome Evans brothers’ Mile High Adventures, a company offering restorative Rocky Mountain vacations.

Brandon thinks PR is pointless, and Lilly knows less than nothing about the outdoors. Which is exactly why they need each other—in ways neither ever imagined . . .

  • Acting Lessons

    Acting Lessons by Katie Allen

Acting Lessons by Katie Allen is $1.99! Katie Allen is another pen name for Katie Ruggle, for fans of her romantic suspense. I bought this one previously because I was very curious about the eye-patched cover model. However, I wasn’t immediately taken with the heroine.

An aspiring actress navigates the gig of a lifetime…and an illicit desire she never saw coming in the first book of a brand-new series from Katie Ruggle writing as Katie Allen.

It’s an offer she can’t refuse. Two weeks of work for enough cash to quit her day job and focus on auditions is a dream come true for struggling actress Topher. All she has to do is play girlfriend to a wealthy friend, helping him secure his trust fund. Then she meets her friend’s sinfully handsome, firmly off-limits uncle, and all bets are off.

Not only is Uncle James surprisingly younger than imagined, he’s charismatic and hot as hell. And there’s something about the wounded veteran’s hungry stare that has her thinking the feeling is mutual.

Topher’s determined to ignore Uncle Sexy, but the forbidden temptation is too much to handle, especially after James flashes his dominant side. But surrendering to temptation is easier said than done when the plot thickens. Even if Topher can manage to fool everyone involved, she’s not sure she can fool her own heart—or the man she’s definitely not supposed to be falling for.

  • American Dreamer

    American Dreamer by Adriana Herrera

American Dreamer by Adriana Herrera is $1.99! Sarah read this one and gave it a B:

This was a truly delicious, delectable, emotional story with resonance and heart and so much food, it might as well have its own stomach because yours shouldn’t be growling alone.

No one ever said big dreams come easy

For Nesto Vasquez, moving his Afro-Caribbean food truck from New York City to the wilds of Upstate New York is a huge gamble. If it works? He’ll be a big fish in a little pond. If it doesn’t? He’ll have to give up the hustle and return to the day job he hates. He’s got six months to make it happen—the last thing he needs is a distraction.

Jude Fuller is proud of the life he’s built on the banks of Cayuga Lake. He has a job he loves and good friends. It’s safe. It’s quiet. And it’s damn lonely. Until he tries Ithaca’s most-talked-about new lunch spot and works up the courage to flirt with the handsome owner. Soon he can’t get enough—of Nesto’s food orof Nesto. For the first time in his life, Jude can finally taste the kind of happiness that’s always been just out of reach.

An opportunity too good to pass up could mean a way to stay together and an incredible future for them both…if Nesto can remember happiness isn’t always measured by business success. And if Jude can overcome his past and trust his man will never let him down.

  • The Gamble

    The Gamble by Kristen Ashley

The Gamble by Kristen Ashley is 99c! This is also the first book in her Colorado Mountain series, which seems to mostly be a contemporary romance with suspense elements. New readers of Ashley had a few minor complaints about getting used to her writing style, but overall people couldn’t get enough of the emotional rollercoaster set in a small, snowy town.

Love is the greatest gamble of all…

Nina Sheridan desperately needs a timeout vacation. With a fiancé who can’t even remember how she takes her coffee, Nina wants some distance to rethink her engagement. Flying halfway around the world from England to a mountain town in Colorado should do the trick. But when she finds a gorgeous man at her rental cabin, Nina’s cold, lonely adventure suddenly heats up.

The owner of the house, Holden “Max” Maxwell is surprised by the beautiful woman who turns up at his door. But when Nina becomes ill, Max spends days nursing her back to health. A private man with a broken heart, Max finds himself drawn to the strong-willed woman. Soon it becomes impossible for Nina and Max to deny their growing attraction to one another. Yet even as these two wounded lovebirds think about taking a chance on a relationship, a dangerous secret from Max’s past emerges-and threatens to end their love for good.

I loved Acting Lessons, but it is NOT for everyone. It’s over the top (but very very low angst) and goofy and there’s Daddy/little girl stuff that won’t appeal to some people.

I liked ACTING LESSONS (which is rather unexpected because I haven’t been able to get into the work Allen published as Katie Ruggle). I generally don’t like humor in romance, but ACTING LESSONS hit the right spot for me. Also I think Allen handled the several layers of fake relationships very skillfully (the heroine is in a fake relationship, but then has to pretend to be in another). Yes, there’s some Daddy kink which was a bit over-the-top, but overall I recommend ACTING LESSONS.

My personal pick would be American Dreamer – I’ve adored the whole series.

Ijust could not get into Need You Now. I put it down several times because I had trouble staying with the story – I did not connect with the characters and found their journey too angsty. Both Hero and Heroine needed to be in therapy, (for months) with the emotional baggage they carried. Sorry but I Toasted from my Ebook Library.

Acting Lessons is bonkers. This crazy book is filled with awful rich people. Like you want to wheel the guillotine out into the square for these awful rich people.

BUT there are some absolutely hilarious scenes of the heroine acting like a total ditz.

Need You Now is OK. There’s a LOT of angst. I read the next couple of books, which were not great. The wilderness aspect is fun. It’s definitely not for everyone.

I’m about halfway through Acting Lessons and I don’t super love Topher because she’s pretty awful, but the fake relationship onion is really funny. Also there are a lot of characters who feel free to invite themselves to James’s home?! How tacky and rude. But I want to emphasize that it’s fun. Worth the 1.99 price tag.

I think the Daddy kink is undermentioned for Acting Lessons. Very undermentioned. Really not my thing.
