Tupelo Honey lip balm by Savanah Bee Company. I never leave home without it.
My homemade masks. And my curved silver darning needle.
Cinnamon Altoids
A signed Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen photo my dad somehow got for me when I was kid via his friend being at the right place at the right time.
When Martha Wells had an active Patreon, the $1 a month I paid where she would post drabbles based on her Raksura world. I loved those, and hope she will eventually compile all those gems into a published collection.
A little tub of petroleum jelly–I use it year round, but especially during the winter on hands, lips, what have you!
Post-its!
Wet n wild make up wipes. They are the best, never irritate my eyes, and so affordable.
Korean pimple patches
A <$5 indispensable thing for me? In general, hair ties/elastic bands, because I’m a hair beast. In pandemic times, edging up are those adhesive wire things you can stick on a cloth mask so they fit closer to your nose.
My favourite pens – they’re cheap and cheerful, and as a secretary I can’t live without them!
doggy treats. gotta keep doggy happy.
Great question! Can’t wait to read all the answers, because, you know, stocking stuffers! (or equivalent).
My response: the four-color Bic pen. Love it. Loved it when I was younger and in grade school, rediscovered it a few years ago and discovered I still love it. Four pens in one!
A travel-sized bottle of hand sanitizer on a tiny carabiner that’s usually clipped to my purse’s shoulder strap. I got it in a swag bag from a long-ago conference (so I guess it was free…does it still count?) and appreciate how conveniently useful it is, compared to fumbling for other stuff in the depths of my bag. Although I wish it held more, since it seems to perpetually require refilling, it has proven especially invaluable with the current pandemic. It also reminds me how long I’ve been kinda germaphobic because this little bottle has accompanied me all over the world (planes and subways, ew).
Burt’s Bees beeswax lip balm. I always have a tube on me somewhere.
My masks! I buy the material at used clothes stores: fun prints (shirts, or pillowcases or whatever) for the outer layer, sports shirts for the inner layer, 1$ apiece and I can make 4 masks out of them.
Vaseline lip therapy
Purse size nail files! They’re cute and come in so handy!
Kosher salt! Endlessly useful!
Lip balm – Burt’s Bees ultra conditioning.
Recently added a travel sized Gold Bond ultimate healing lotion to my essentials wristlet bag, it’s great for lips and hands in need of a little extra love.
At this time of year and particularly in these stay-at-home times, I love my cheap fuzzy socks. So cozy!
The Shazam app. I always want to know what songs I’m hearing on the radio.
Chapstick, Chapstick, Chapstick—although, similar to saying Kleenex when I mean any brand of tissue, I’m not fussy about the brand of lip balm or even the flavor. I keep a tube in my purse, one in my back pocket at work, one on my bedside table, and one on the side table next to where I sit in the den. Dollar Tree sells various types (usually two tubes in a package) and I can always count on some in my stocking Christmas morning.
Our hoopla subscription, which is free, because my husband downloads books of poetry and reads poems to me before we go to sleep. He started on Valentine’s day last year, and we’ve made it part of our evening routine.
This time of year, the Burt’s Bees lip balm is a lifesaver (lipsaver!).
Envelopes so I can send out letters 🙂
Chapstick
My cake strips! They’re so good for ensuring a cake with moist sides and a flat top!
Hair clips to keep my bangs out of my eyes when I’m sewing and baking. As the pandemic continues my hair has a life of it’s own, and adding butter and flour to it does not help.
I’m another one whose first (and second, and third) thought was Chapstick.
I’m a vet student and I have these little notebooks that fit into a scrub pocket and they are amazing for taking notes on cases! A close runner up would be my student Spotify subscription
The rubber or plastic grippers that slide on pencils and pens! I get writer’s bump if I don’t use them. As an English teacher, I’m writing all day. I have grippers on all my writing instruments.
I have to also go with chapstick! This winter is attacking my face, as always, and my chapstick is attacking back.
My favourite 5mm crochet hook. And Carmex.
Hearing aid batteries! Nice to be able to participate in conversation (and turn it off when the upstairs neighbor’s yappy dog is going crazy.)
A phone ring holder. I can hold my phone more securely and use it to prop the phone up on a table while I’m doing something else.
Unscented/lightly scented hand-cream! Really any brand that is cruelty free seems to work fine by me but I especially like the Kamill one that has chamomile in.
Neutrogena Fisherman’s Hand Lotion, never go anywhere without it. Works on hands, cuticles, lips, heels…even my face if it is hyper dry.
A tiny succulent or fern in a 2” pot makes me smile.
The Ultra Hydrating Butter Butter I make is invaluable.
