  • My Best Friend’s Exorcism

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix

RECOMMENDEDMy Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix is $2.99! This is a great book for Halloween. Carrie reviewed this and gave it a B+:

This particular horror story is a love letter to the 1980s and to the power of friendship between women. The ending is very awesome. But also very gross, so be prepared.

Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fifth grade, when they bonded over a shared love of E.T., roller-skating parties, and scratch-and-sniff stickers. But when they arrive at high school, things change. Gretchen begins to act . . . different. And as the strange coincidences and bizarre behavior start to pile up, Abby realizes there’s only one possible explanation: Gretchen, her favorite person in the world, has a demon living inside her. And Abby is not about to let anyone or anything come between her and her best friend. With help from some unlikely allies, Abby embarks on a quest to save Gretchen. But is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

  • A Raven’s Heart

    A Raven’s Heart by K.C. Bateman

A Raven’s Heart by K.C. Bateman is 99c! This is the second book in the Secrets & Spies series. We’ve featured the first book on sale earlier this year and it’s available for $2.99! This one has a bookish code breaker heroine, a spy hero, and a second chance romance. Hello, catnip!

August 1815. The war with France is officially over, Napoleon’s an exile on St Helena, but Europe is still a very dangerous place to be.

Kidnapped and held for ransom at nineteen, ducal heir William Ravenwood knows the only person he can rely on is himself. Now part of a spy ring that includes his friends Nicolas and Richard Hampden, he’s the smuggler known as The Raven, a ruthless agent who specializes in rescuing hostages and prisoners of war from captivity.

Raven longs to discover the fate of his colleague, Christopher ‘Kit’ Carlisle, who’s been missing, presumed dead, for over two years. He’s also equally determined to stay away from the one thing he knows is dangerous to his health – the bane of his life, his best friends’ infuriating and provocative little sister, Heloise.

Heloise is a brilliant code breaker, one of the English government’s most valuable assets. She’s also loved Raven for years, but considering that he rejected her at sixteen, before her face was scarred rescuing her brother from an icy river, she’s certain he doesn’t want her now, despite his outrageous flirting.

But when Heloise decodes a message that proves Kit is alive and a prisoner in Spain, Raven realizes she’s in grave danger. With French agents determined to silence her, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe – even if that means taking her to Spain with him as an unwilling hostage.

As they face French deserters and Spanish freedom fighters, Raven and Heloise try to ignore the simmering attraction that’s been building between them for eight long years. The differences between them are striking but they’ve always had a strange underlying bond. Heloise might be scarred outwardly, but Raven’s wounds are all on the inside. He knows he’s not worthy of her love—a shadowed Hades pining for sun-kissed Persephone—but he’s not above showing her passion for the short time they’re together.

A master at decoding complex messages, Heloise finds Raven frustratingly hard to read, but as their lives hang in the balance she’s determined to unravel his secrets and unlock his dark, elusive heart…

  • Never Deny a Duke

Never Deny a Duke by Madeline Hunter

Never Deny a Duke by Madeline Hunter is 99c at Amazon! No word on whether this will be price-matched later. It’s book three in the Decadent Dukes Society series. The heroine is trying to get back her family’s lands from the hero, which sounds like a setup for some great, prickly interactions.

He is the last duke standing

. . . the sole remaining bachelor of the three self-proclaimed Decadent Dukes. Yet Davina MacCallum’s reasons for searching out the handsome Duke of Brentworth have nothing to do with marriage. Scottish lands were unfairly confiscated from her family by the Crown and given to his. A reasonable man with vast holdings can surely part with one trivial estate, especially when Davina intends to put it to good use. Brentworth, however, is as difficult to persuade as he is to resist.

The Duke of Brentworth’s discretion and steely control make him an enigma even to his best friends. Women especially find him inscrutable and unapproachable—but also compellingly magnetic. So when Davina MacCallum shows no signs of being even mildly impressed by him, he is intrigued. Until he learns that her mission in London involves claims against his estate. Soon the two of them are engaged in a contest that allows no compromise. When duty and desire collide, the best laid plans are about to take a scandalous turn—into the very heart of passion . . .

  • Once Upon a Highland Autumn

Once Upon a Highland Autumn by Lecia Cornwall

Once Upon a Highland Autumn by Lecia Cornwall is $2.49/$2.99! right now. This is book two in the Highland Season series. Highland Autumn has a 4-star average, and readers who liked it loooooved the hero. Have you read this one or the series?

Megan McNabb would do anything to get out of marrying a man she does not love—even handfasting for a year and a day with an English stranger.

A mysterious letter draws Lord Kit Rossington to Scotland in search of a lost treasure. But the marriage-minded females he avoided in England follow him to the Highlands, and he’ll do anything—even a temporary marriage with a Highland lass—to keep his freedom while he solves a mystery that’s haunted Glen Dorian for almost a century.

Legends say a curse lurks among the shattered stones of Glen Dorian Castle. Will the love that is beginning to grow between Megan and Kit be able to withstand fate? For only the living, those with bold hearts and true love, can restore peace to Glen Dorian at last.

Grady Hendrix book – purchased simply based on the SBTB rating and cover. No idea if I will even read but the book cover I s bonkers awesome!

  2. Carrie G says:

I recently read Never Deny a Duke and enjoyed it. It’s fairly low angst, has some nice humor, and the MCs are worth rooting for. I’d say A-/B+ territory for me.

  3. Jaye says:

Luck of the Draw by Kate Clayborn is 99¢
(It’s book 2 in a series, no idea if it’s stand alone)

  4. Lisa F says:

I still need to read the Cornwall and Bateman. Can confirm the Hendrix and Hunter are both amazing!

  5. Maureen says:

My mother took me to see The Exorcist when it opened back in 1973, the only reason was because she didn’t like going anywhere alone. I was 12, and I had to leave the theater. Of course my mom stayed to watch the film, so I sat in the lobby for what felt like hours. Since then, anything with exorcisms freaks me out-yet I really want to read My Best Friends Exorcism!

  6. Terrierhead says:

Scarlett Peckham’s The Earl I Ruined is 99 cents at Amazon. It’s second in a series. I enjoyed all three. These books involve some S&M, so be warned if that’s a deal breaker.

  7. Maeve says:

Not on topic at all, but any Murderbot fans should know about this amazing fanvid!

  8. Cristie says:

@Maeve–thanks for that video! I’m re-reading Network Effect again and anything Murderbot makes my days better.

  9. Lynn says:

Just ordered the paperback of “Once Upon a Highland Autumn” by Lecia Cornwall after reading the synopsis here. It wasn’t on sale like the Kindle version but still cheaper than a regular paperback.
Romance, autumn AND a haunted castle? Sounds like a perfect read for the season~

  10. Darlynne says:

@Maeve: “ART SENT ME!” So much this, thank you.
