Links: Puppets!

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Hey hey! It’s Wednesday, and if you’re still drunk from the debate last night, just know that you’re in good (hungover) company.

Tomorrow, we say goodbye to September and welcome my favorite month: October!

Best temperatures. Best food (candy!). Give me all the witchy vibes, please!

If you want horror reading recommendations, Nicole Cliffe has a whole twitter thread! There are some meh suggestions, but also some hidden gems.

This is the only “political” thing I will be posting today because I found it to be fascinating. Clemson University has devised a quiz on whether you can accurately spot the fake social media account. I did terribly.

Shoutout to my friend Emma who introduced me to Puppet History! It features Ryan and Shane from Buzzfeed Unsolved. Shane uses puppets to teach about moments in history while Ryan and another guest try to answer the puppet’s history questions.

More puppets! Fashion brand Moschino put on their Spring 2021 runway show using marionettes. Nightmarish? Beautiful? Ethereal? Why not all three!

Lastly, Sohla El-Waylly (formerly of the Bon Appetit YouTube channel) has teamed up with Andrew Rea (Binging with Babish) for a game called Stump Sohla. A giant wheel is involved that gives Sohla cooking challenges. In the first, Sohla had to make mac & cheese using 18th century cooking techniques. And, in the latest video, she had to make a 7-course tasting menu from things found at a convenience store.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

  1. Tori says:

I cannot spot a fake media account for the of me, apparently…4/8!

  2. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I knew there was a reason that I’m not on social media!

  3. Darlynne says:

The Clemson test was so helpful. I took it last week, got 5/8 the first time, and have been keeping an eagle eye on everyone who follows me. So interesting.

  4. Darlynne says:

The fashion show was a lot of fun. I only recognized Anna Wintour in the audience. Some of the material was gorgeous, perfect for schlepping around in my isolation home. Thanks, Amanda.

  5. Yota Armai says:

I did ok on the quiz, 6/8 but my biggest take away was how subtle some of those were.

  6. HeatherT says:

I thought the quiz was easy 8/8. I was hoping for something more challenging.

  7. JPeK says:

I was surprised that I got 7/8 correct but I went in with a suspicious attitude, which helped. 🙂 I’m tempted to share it with my students (I teach English at a community college). Thanks for sharing the quiz!

  8. Diane says:

7/8, but I am barely on Twitter and not on Instagram at all.

  9. Sandy D. says:

I got 7/8 – missed the misinformation for selling crap (and actually, I consider that almost like a troll).

  10. cleo says:

    I got 7/8.

And speaking as an educator, I thought it was very well designed- each question builds off of the previous one, so if you read the explanations of each answer, it’s easier to get the next ones right. So refreshing compared to all those crappy fb quizzes.
