Happy Wednesday! We’re in April! Whoa! Will I celebrate another pandemic birthday? Who knows! Welcome back, Wednesday friends! Tonight is the VP debate and while I have high hopes it’ll go better than the presidential debate, it’s also still 2020. Who knows what sort of trash fire can occur?! Soggy Bottoms - a Bookish Journey through Technical Bakes with a floury spoon, a rolling pin, and eggshells on a slate background

We’re taking a slight detour with this month’s Soggy Bottoms. Instead of one recipe, we’re sharing the ones that have worked well for us recently! Sarah: I’ve been trying to include one new recipe a week in our menu plans, along with extremely delicious family favorites, so let me share an old favorite, a new favorite, and a dessert. Cashew Chicken, from The Bitten Word via Martha Stewart Everyday I make this once a month, … Continue reading Soggy Bottoms: Recipes That Worked for Us

I think we’ve all collectively reached the stage where time doesn’t truly exist anymore. Saturday was my birthday and that was strange. No ritual birthday pizza from my favorite hole-in-the-wall pizza place. But I did get a birthday cake, courtesy of Sarah. It was delicious, and I think there is one slice left, which will most likely be gone by the end of the day. How are you all holding up? … Love dogs and … Continue reading Links: Groceries & Bedtime Stories

Soggy Bottoms: A Notorious Arlette

Choo choo! All aboard the Soggy Bottoms train! If you’re new here since the last Soggy Bottoms, welcome! This feature is where I test my baking mettle and challenge myself to the Great British Bake Off’s technical bakes. I give myself the same time limit and, like many of the contestants, I literally have never made any of these things before. Truth be told, I was a feeling a bit uninspired for this one. None … Continue reading Soggy Bottoms: A Notorious Arlette

RedHeadedGirl’s Historical Kitchen: ASK ME ANYTHING

I don’t know what it’s been like in your corner of the world, but in mine, it’s been wretchedly hot all summer. Far too hot to cook. So this month, I thought let’s try an AMA. Do you have questions about historical cooking? Food? Historical re-enactment? Ask them down in the comments, and I’ll answer things on Sunday. Ask away!

Stuff You Should Be Watching: Nailed It

Nailed It poster. A blue background with a perfect cupcake. Next to it is a cupcake that looks like it's been dropped on the floor.

I made the mistake of putting on Nailed It (now streaming on Netflix) in the hopes of being able to read with some background noise, but it was a giant fail. Instead, I wound up watching all six episodes in one sitting, with tears streaming down my face. It’s seriously the most fun and entertaining show I’ve ever watched. Period. As a fan of cooking shows, I often have a sweet spot for dessert challenges … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: Nailed It
