  • Rookie Move

    Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen

Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen is 99c! This is book one in the Brooklyn Bruisers series about a hockey team. Both Elyse and I have enjoyed books in this series, though I think we both agree that the second book, Hard Hitter is our favorite. Readers loved the second chance romance in this book, but found the pacing in the first half a bit slow.

The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold…

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

  • Ink and Bone

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine is $2.99! This is the first book in the Great Library series, which Carrie has enjoyed. It’s about a great, magical library, which I know will perk up some readers’ ears. But while the concept seems awesome, some readers had trouble initially getting into it.

In an exhilarating new series, New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine rewrites history, creating a dangerous world where the Great Library of Alexandria has survived the test of time.…

Ruthless and supremely powerful, the Great Library is now a presence in every major city, governing the flow of knowledge to the masses. Alchemy allows the Library to deliver the content of the greatest works of history instantly—but the personal ownership of books is expressly forbidden.

Jess Brightwell believes in the value of the Library, but the majority of his knowledge comes from illegal books obtained by his family, who are involved in the thriving black market. Jess has been sent to be his family’s spy, but his loyalties are tested in the final months of his training to enter the Library’s service.

When his friend inadvertently commits heresy by creating a device that could change the world, Jess discovers that those who control the Great Library believe that knowledge is more valuable than any human life—and soon both heretics and books will burn…

  • Firestorm

    Firestorm

Firestorm by Rachel Grant is 99c! This is part of Grant’s Flashpoint romantic suspense series and I’ve heard such good things about the series as a whole. This has an enemies to lovers setup between two operatives sent into the Congo. Have you read this one? Are you a fan of the Flashpoint books?

CIA covert operator Savannah James is after intel on a potential coup in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but she needs a partner fluent in Lingala to infiltrate the organization. Sergeant First Class Cassius Callahan is the perfect choice, except he doesn’t like her very much. He doesn’t trust her, either, despite the sparks that flare between them, fierce and hot. Still, he accepts the assignment even though their cover requires Savvy to pose as his mistress.

They enter battle-worn Congo to expose the financing for the coup. A trail of cobalt, gold, and diamonds leads them into the heart of a jungle in which everyone is desperate to find the mother lode of ore and gems. Betrayal stalks them as they follow the money, but Savvy will stop at nothing to bring down the would-be dictator before he can ignite a firestorm that will engulf all of Africa.

Deep in the sultry rainforest, spy and Green Beret forge a relationship more precious than diamonds, but Cal knows Savvy is willing to sacrifice anything—or anyone—to complete her mission. As they near the flashpoint, Cal will have to save her from the greatest threat of all: herself.

  • The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith is $1.99! Carrie reviewed this book last summer and gave it a B-:

This book was not the best book I’ve every read, but I had a lot of fun with it. It was like those snack size bags of potato chips – yummy, quick, not super-deep, but fun.

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan’s life. Having missed her flight, she’s stuck at JFK airport and late to her father’s second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley’s never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport’s cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he’s British, and he’s sitting in her row.

A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?

Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver’s story will make you believe that true love finds you when you’re least expecting it.

    https://www.tor.com/2020/04/20/download-all-4-murderbot-books-for-free-before-network-effect-arrives/

Tor is giving away all four of Martha Wells’ Murderbot books in promotion of the new one coming out next week. These are usually pretty pricey for a novella length story so this is a great deal.

  2. Ariadna says:

Also, today is Day 1 of Tor Books offering all 4 novellas from the Murderbot series for free ebook downloads. They are providing one free book every day. Link to their announcement on Twiter

  3. WhitD says:

I really enjoyed all of the Brooklyn Bruisers books!

  4. Georgina says:

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is a very cute YA romance. Could be a good read in these times when you just want something fluffy.

I enjoyed the first Murderbot novella, too. Thank you I_Simon and Ariadna for letting us know about this promo!

  5. Lostshadows says:

Came here to mention the Murderbot giveaway and discovered I was late to the party.

Just a note, they gave away the first one a couple of years ago too, so if you’ve been following the Tor ebook club for awhile, you might want to double check your collection.

  6. Scifigirl1986 says:

Based on the book and series name, I assumed Firestorm had to do with DC Comics. I guess it is just a coincidence, though.

  7. LN says:

Unfortunately the murderbot offer is only available in the US and Canada ☹️

  8. I cannot recommend the Murderbot giveaway enough– a great series, and I can attest the upcoming 5th entry is just as good. Ugh, love me some Murderbot!!

  9. MaryK says:

@Mara (aka bookslikewhoa) – That’s good to know! Not that I really doubted it, but it’s good to have confirmation. I preordered it, in hardcover, back in October or so. None of which I ever do.

  10. mel burns says:

SBTB is starting to look like the Daily Mail with all the annoying ads. Nora Cora is a scam out of Hong Kong that shows ads with beautiful clothes that are not what you get after you order. They also have different names for shoes and other styles of clothing but it’s the same Hong Kong company. Some banks will deny the charge when you use a debit card because of the company’s dodgy history.
Yet these kinds of dodgy ads are showing up here at what I’ve always consider an honest place. Even as I write this post there is a scroll of ads popping up under the comment box. What gives?!

  11. JudyW says:

    @I_Simon, @Mara
I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the next murderbot. If you have NOT read this series yet it is superb. It is a bit pricey usually (my only quibble) considering the page count so this free offer needs to be jumped on now. I have both read and listened to this series and it’s great both ways.

  12. Claire Epperly says:

Highly recommend the Murderbot series. Not at all a romance. It’s about a cranky rogue security cyborg / AI that just wants to be left alone to binge watch its favorite media and protect the pesky humans in its care. Each novella has a stand alone plot but there’s also an overarching mystery plot.

  13. Emily B says:

I really love the Brooklyn Bruisers series. The last 2 were a bit of a dip in quality, but even a so so Bowen is still a great read.

I haven’t read that Jennifer E. Smith YA, but I did read and really enjoy Field Notes on Love, so perhaps I’ll give this one a try.

  14. Sydneysider says:

The Flashpoint series is pretty good. There was one thing that may put readers off – see spoiler warning below. Firestorm is the third in the series, but you can follow it without having read the previous books. Starting with it as the first may lead to some potential spoilers for the earlier books, though. The suspense is decent.

    ****SPOILER WARNING*****
IIRC, at one point she has to pose as his mistress. Not everyone may be into this set up, so fair warning here.
    ****SPOILER WARNING OVER****

  15. JIll-Marie says:

I have really enjoyed the Bruisers series, even though I’m only vaguely familiar with the sport of hockey. (I’m told soccer is like hockey but with balls 😉 ).

  16. Nicolette says:

    @Mel burns

I’m getting customized ads for six dollar shirts. Could you screencapture the next one you see so the site ladies can keep an eye for it? They have permission to allow ads, but not precise control over them.

Danny Gonzalez tried to use money to advertise his channel, but he ran into notable issues in his youtube channel like getting temp suspended for briefly playing goofy ads somehow. And I think SBTB runs in a similar way to youtube ads.

  17. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Mel Burns: I too am getting Nora Cora ads—and I’m definitely not their target demographic. Getting all kinds of other ads too. They seem to be worse on my iPhone than on any other device. I don’t like to say too much because I know Sarah needs to make a living like everyone else, but it gives the screen a very cluttered look. At least the click out X is big and easy to use—on some sites you can’t click out of ads no matter how hard you chase the tiny x.

  18. Jazzlet says:

    @Mel Burns, Nicolette and DiscoDollyDeb

Ok that is weird, I don’t get any ad’s at all along the bottom, just the ones down the side for romance books, SBTB swag etc

  19. Maureen says:

Hmmm…all my ads are showing on the top, and they are so maddening because they block the text. I don’t even read them, I just click, click, click them away. I guess for me, if that is the price I have to pay for SBTB-I will gladly do it!
