Links: Groceries & Bedtime Stories

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.I think we’ve all collectively reached the stage where time doesn’t truly exist anymore.

Saturday was my birthday and that was strange. No ritual birthday pizza from my favorite hole-in-the-wall pizza place. But I did get a birthday cake, courtesy of Sarah. It was delicious, and I think there is one slice left, which will most likely be gone by the end of the day.

How are you all holding up?

Love dogs and looking for a new craft project? Thanks to Julie C. for sending this our way!

A new take on the Hero’s Journey:

If you’re a reader who really can’t seem to get into reading right now, you’re not alone! (I can’t either.)

At the end of the month, Tom Hardy will be reading us all bedtime stories. Sometimes god works in mysterious ways. Here’s hoping it’s not geo-restricted.

Epicurious has a “Cook-With-What-You’ve-Got” recipe finder.

My critique is that it gives us some good ideas, but the recipes also rely on more than just the staples you have. Example: I have cabbage and rice and out of the two recipes they suggested, one requires coconut milk and fish sauce, which I don’t readily keep on hand.

Nadiya from Great British Bake-Off is getting a Netflix cooking show! It launches on April 29th.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

It’s Earth Day! Lots of virtual events happening, earthx.org and earthdaylive2020.org are two of the bigger ones but there are lots of smaller local virtual events happening too.

Here’s something that I found so entertaining this week. It’s from stuntman Shawn Bernal who got Chicago area stunt workers together for an epic social distancing fight. Gets better & better as it goes:

Kind of related to the Tom Hardy news, here’s author Isaac Fitzgerald having a “totally chill and completely normal” reaction to watching Levar Burton read his book How to Be a Pirate: https://twitter.com/IsaacFitzgerald/status/1252285845463326722

Saw this article last night (Tu. 4/21):

Usually I (& my delicate constitution) steer clear of things that will keep me up at night, but since my sleep schedule has been tossed into a whirling blender, I just dove right into Museum Bizzaro-World; the whole Twitter thread (?!) is at:
    #CURATORBATTLE
    The comments are priceless.

    Happy belated birthday, Amanda!

That hero’s journey is spot on. Bravely venturing into the unknown! My unexpected helper: the Target employee who decorated her face mask with stickers. Sewing ain’t happening right now but stickers (swiped from the 11 year old) – heck yeah!

Belated birthday wishes, Amanda! Here’s hoping for happy days….

If you’re a horse lover, go to foalpatrol.com (sorry, I suck at linking). We’re waiting for one last mare to foal — Emotional Kitten — but there are cameras on other mares and babies, as well stallion Gun Runner during the day.

Really feel both the Hero’s Journey for groceries (that was today for me) and the article on not being up to reading. I have read some Shelly Laurenston because it made me feel better, but mostly I just re-watched four seasons of Fringe.

One thing I started reading: http://www.kelleyarmstrong.com/book/cursed-luck/
Kelley Armstrong is doing a free urban fantasy serial on her website; chapters go up on Tuesdays and Fridays. I love her stuff, and this is on the lighter side since it’s a project she’s doing basically as a product of stress. Something to look forward to every few days.

I’m really glad that I’m not the only one struggling with the brain space to read right now. I just can’t seem to turn off my thoughts enough to concentrate.

My brother’s making me bookshelves. Currently most of my books have been in boxes for 4+ months, so I’m kind of hoping that when the shelves are done and I have a chance to unpack and organize, I’ll be more inspired to at least pick up an old favorite to reread.

    Happy Belated Birthday!!

I am so excited about Nadiya’s cooking show, she is one of my all time favorite contestants on the Great British Bake Off. Her comments after her win of the GBBO were so powerful and emotional, I cry every time I watch it. Really looking forward to this!
