  • A Princess in Theory

A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole

A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in her Reluctant Royals series and this seems to be a series that just keeps getting better with its books. Many readers loved how Alyssa writes consent, agency, and all sorts of other awesome and empowering things. However, some warn that this book takes several chapters to get into the swing of things.

From acclaimed author Alyssa Cole comes the tale of a city Cinderella and her Prince Charming in disguise . . .

Between grad school and multiple jobs, Naledi Smith doesn’t have time for fairy tales…or patience for the constant e-mails claiming she’s betrothed to an African prince. Sure. Right. Delete! As a former foster kid, she’s learned that the only things she can depend on are herself and the scientific method, and a silly e-mail won’t convince her otherwise.

Prince Thabiso is the sole heir to the throne of Thesolo, shouldering the hopes of his parents and his people. At the top of their list? His marriage. Ever dutiful, he tracks down his missing betrothed. When Naledi mistakes the prince for a pauper, Thabiso can’t resist the chance to experience life—and love—without the burden of his crown.

The chemistry between them is instant and irresistible, and flirty friendship quickly evolves into passionate nights. But when the truth is revealed, can a princess in theory become a princess ever after?

  • Lost Rider

    Lost Rider by Harper Sloan

Lost Rider by Harper Sloan is $1.99! This is the first book in the Coming Home contemporary western series. This contains one of my least favorite tropes which is the “best friend’s little sister,” but that may be your catnip. It has a 3.8+ star average on Goodreads.

In Lost Rider, the first Western romance in New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Harper Sloan’s Coming Home series, an injured rodeo star encounters an old flame but will she be just what he needs to get back in the saddle?

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to, but now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood—his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen—and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

Written in the vein of Diana Palmer and Lindsay McKenna, this Texas-set series is filled with sizzle, heart, and plenty of cowboys!

  • Wildest Dreams

    Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley

Wildest Dreams by Kristen Ashley is $1.99! This is a paranormal romance with mistaken identities and dragons. Many readers loved the setting and the parallel universe concept. On the other hand, some readers felt the book was a little long and had way too much detail, which slowed down the action. The rest of the series is also $1.99!

Seoafin “Finnie” Wilde was taught by her parents that every breath was a treasure and to seek every adventure she could find. And she learns this lesson the hard way when they perish in a plane crash. But she never forgets and when she discovers there is a parallel universe where every person has a twin, she finds a witch who can send her there so she can have the adventure of a lifetime.

But upon arrival in the Winter Wonderland of Lunwyn, she realizes she’s been played by her twin and finds herself walking down the aisle to be wed to The Drakkar.

Thrown into inauspicious circumstances, with years of practice, Finnie bests the challenges and digs into her adventure. But as Frey Drakkar discovers the woman who is his new wife is not Princess Sjofn, a woman he dislikes but instead, his Finnie, a free-spirit with a thirst for venture just like him, without her knowledge he orders his new bride bound to his frozen world, everlasting.

But at the same time Frey plunges Finnie into a web of political intrigue that includes assassination plots, poison, magic, mystery and… dragons.

  • The Wedding Date Bargain

The Wedding Date Bargain by Mira Lyn Kelly

The Wedding Date Bargain by Mira Lyn Kelly is $1.99! This is the second book in The Wedding Date series, but can be read on its own. The first book is FREE and the third is also on sale. If you’re looking for something cute and fun, readers recommend this one. However, some took issue with the hero and his constant problem with commitment.

    Sarah’s to-do list:
    Get mani-pedi
    Buy killer black dress
    Lose virginity

When Sarah Cole has two months to kill before her big move to New York, she decides it’s time to take care of a few things? Like the inconvenient issue of her virginity. Sarah knows the right guy for the job too: Max, the notorious ladies’ man she’s been crushing on since college.

Two weeks of courting, and then the deed will be done. The plan is so simple. There’s no way either of them would do something as silly as fall in love…

Kelly’s never stricken a cord with me, but you don’t need me to tell you the Cole is a must-read and belongs on everyone’s keeper shelf!

I need to read the Sloan. Love a good contemp western.

  2. Ren Benton says:

The Last 8 by Laura Pohl is $1.99. YA alien invasion.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard is $2.99 for the month, but Tor’s book club is also giving it away through the 17th for the low, low price of your email address here: https://ebookclub.tor.com/

  3. DonnaMarie says:

I think I just realized what my least favorite trope is! The athlete who can’t compete any more, and doesn’t know what to do now that “every dream he had for himself is over”.

Name more than a handful of athletes in high contact sports still competing in their 40s. How would he have no plan for the rest of his life – unless he’s planning to die in the saddle in his 30s?

A sadsack with limited dreams and no ambition? No, thank you.

  4. Emily B says:

Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane is on sale for $1.99 – one of my favorite reads of 2019. Leans more women’s lit but it is excellent.

  5. SusanH says:

@EmilyB – Thank you! I’ve been waiting ages for a library copy of the McFarlane to become available. I just one-clicked it.

  6. Georgina says:

Ooh, yes! The Don’t You Forget About Me is excellent. TBH, I only picked it up because the heroine’s named Georgina, but it turned out to be one of my favourite reads of last year — so funny and observant and great.

  7. MsCellanie says:

Why is she wandering around the ranch with no pants on? That seems uncomfortable.
    And bug-bitey.

  8. WS says:

I am so sad I can no longer like someone else’s posts, for I deeply love the question about her lack of pants.

  9. RebeccaA says:

MsCellanie that’s exactly what I was thinking.

  10. Great Grey Owl says:

I can’t imagine anything more uncomfortable than riding a horse without pants.
