This week’s podcast episode will be the first of a four-episode series on RWA: One Month Later.
It’s been just over a month since Romance Writers of America informed Courtney Milan on 23 December 2019 that due to an ethics complaint, she was barred from leadership for her lifetime, and was suspended for a year. That decision was then rescinded, and, well, a lot has happened in a month.
I wanted to create an audio record of sorts to capture where we are now, and most importantly, featured the voices and perspectives of some of those who were involved.
Because of the timeliness of these episodes, I’m doing a special miniseries and releasing all four back to back.
- On January 31: a conversation with C Chilove, Laurel Cremant, and Diana Neal, the officers of CIMRWA, the Cultural, Interracial, Multicultural Special Interest Chapter of Romance Writers of America
- On February 1: an interview with RWA past president HelenKay Dimon
- On February 2: a conversation with Jessie Edwards, Marketing and PR Manager at RWA
- On February 3: an interview with Courtney Milan

I am really looking forward to this. It is not easy to follow along and this sounds like a great series.
SO EXCITED!!! What a lineup you’ve put together.
You are amazing, Sarah. I’ve been patiently waiting for the podcast on this topic because I knew that you would do it justice. I see that you have by giving us four podcasts with people integral to the situation. Thank you for your work. Also, thank you for starting with the black women of CIMRWA who put in so much work for the petition within RWA when this all happened.
Thank you! I really appreciate your comments. The women of CIMRWA are really and truly incredible, and that episode is very inspiring. I hope you find the whole series interesting. Thank you for the support and the compliments – really really. Thank you.
I a really excited for this series! There are a lot of pieces to this problem, and Smart Bitches has been consistently great at putting all the moving parts together. I appreciate that Smart Bitches is following up on this with a thoughtful podcast series.
I *am* really excited. Jeez. 🙂 It’s too early in the morning.
This series is much needed and much appreciated. I especially appreciate that you went straight to the horse’s mouth, as it were. Thanks for doing this, and for keeping us all informed.
