Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson

Getting Hot with the Scot by Melonie Johnson is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. Sarah had Melonie on the podcast and they have a lovely discussion about the book’s inception. Have you read this one?

IT’S TIME TO FLIRT WITH A MAN IN A KILT

Cassie Crow, a pop-culture reporter for a TV talk show, is focused on becoming a “serious” journalist. But when she stumbles into a kilted Highlander with a killer accent, Cassie decides that taking one night off from work and spending it with a sexy Scot couldn’t hurt. . .

Logan Reid has built a career on his charm, hosting a series of off-the-wall hijinks on the Web. But when the Scottish prankster meets the all-American, equal parts intelligent and irresistible Cassie, Logan realizes that one night of fun won’t be enough. Could it be that this career-focused, commitment-phobic couple is finally ready to take a chance at true and lasting love?

  • The Duchess in His Bed

The Duchess in His Bed by Lorraine Heath

The Duchess in His Bed by Lorraine Heath is $1.99! Heath is a bit of a favorite here at the Bitchery and I don’t think we’ve ever featured this one on sale before. Readers seem divided on the main couple: loving the hero, but iffy on the heroine. It has a 3.9 star average on Goodreads.

For a duchess with practical desires, falling in love is an inconceivable part of her plan…

As owner of the Elysium Club which caters to women’s fantasies, Aiden Trewlove is accustomed to introducing adventurous ladies to sin and vice. But he is uncharacteristically intrigued by the mysterious beauty who visits his club one night, yearning to indulge in the forbidden—with him. Drawn to her indomitable spirit, he breaks his rule of never becoming personally involved with his clientele and is determined to fully awaken her desires.

A recent widow, Selena Sheffield, Duchess of Lushing, has never known passion, not until Aiden’s slow, sensual seduction leads her on a journey of discovery and incredible pleasure. But her reasons for visiting the notorious club are not all that they seem.

As Selena’s motives become complicated by love, she finds herself with a most unexpected choice: forge ahead with a secret plan that could secure her future—or follow her heart which could prove ruinous.

  • The Bride Takes a Groom

The Bride Takes a Groom by Lisa Berne

The Bride Takes a Groom by Lisa Berne is $1.99! This is part of the Penhallow Dynasty series, though can be read on its own. The heroine comes from a toxic family and readers really resonated with her journey. However, others felt the hero was a poor match for her.

Lisa Berne’s Penhallow Dynasty continues with a pair of star-crossed childhood friends who meet again years later—and find love where they least expect it . . .

Katherine Brooke may be a fabulously wealthy heiress, but she’s trapped, a pawn in her parents’ ruthless game to marry her into the nobility. Then Captain Hugo Penhallow—so charming, as handsome as a Greek god—comes into her life once more, and suddenly she sees a chance to be free.

As a Penhallow, his is one of the highest names in the land, but still his family is facing ruin. So Katherine boldly proposes an exchange: his name for her money. But only if Hugo understands it’s merely a practical arrangement, and that she’s not surrendering herself entirely.

Back from eight years in America and determined to give his younger siblings a better life, Hugo agrees. He’s never fallen in love, so why not? Yet neither of them guesses that this marriage will become far, far more than they ever dreamed of . . .

  • Governess Gone Rogue

Governess Gone Rogue by Laura Lee Guhrke

Governess Gone Rogue by Laura Lee Guhrke is $1.99! This historical romance is part of the Dear Lady Truelove series and features a single parent hero with twin boys and a heroine who disguises herself. Readers say this is a great tender and sweet romance. However, be warned that this one is a very slow burn.

    Dear Lady Truelove…

My twin brother and I need a new mother, though Papa insists he’ll never marry again. Must be nice, brainy, and fond of cats…

Lady Truelove may be London’s most famous advice columnist, but James St. Clair, the Earl of Kenyon, knows his wild young sons need a tutor, not a new mother. They need a man tough enough to make his hellions tow the line, and James is determined to find one.

Miss Amanda Leighton, former schoolteacher and governess, knows she has all the qualifications to be a tutor. And while female tutors are unheard of, Amanda isn’t about to lose the chance at her dream job because of pesky details like that. If Lord Kenyon insists on hiring a man, then she has only one option.

Jamie isn’t sure what to make of his new employee, until he realizes the shocking truth—beneath the ill-fitting suits, his boys’ tutor is a woman. An unconventional, outspoken, thoroughly intriguing woman. Despite Amanda’s deception, he can’t dismiss her when his boys are learning so much. Yet Jamie, too, is learning surprising lessons—about desire, seduction, and passionate second chances.

  1. Deianira says:

I’m a sucker for books set in modern Scotland. And Wales, and Ireland, and England. So I grabbed “Getting Hot With the Scot” a while ago, & enjoyed it. I was a little leery of the opening “prankster” scene – handled badly, it could have been a mess – but it’s a fun, light read. The followup – “Smitten by the Brit” – is also good. I’m still waiting for books set in Wales & Northern Ireland (& Ireland! I want that one too!) so those countries get their chance to shine, but so far, no luck.

Berne’s books are um. In general they haven’t been very good, the few I’ve tried.

All the others listed here are pretty good tho.
