I like listening to podcasts as I do housework or cook. I have 2 newer ones that I look forward to each week. Wednesday is Ask Me About Kpop hosted by two best friends. I dont have anyone in real life who listen to kpop so it is nice company. The other is The Tablo podcast on Thursday. Tablo is from Epik High and not really any theme to the show but he is intelligent, creative, and very funny.A recent favorite was when he and Eric and Eddi Nam created “the ideal asian superhero ” Tod.

  2. Aoiphe says:

Podcast: Dolly Parton’s America (npr). Delightful and informative. Second place podcast to Smart Bitches, specifically Sarah’s interview with the Nagoski sisters on Burnout.
    Thanks so much SB Sarah!

  3. Alex says:

I’ve been getting into podcasts this past year because I had quite a few long commutes this year. I really love the Heaving Bosoms Podcast, they do long recaps of romance novels and I love both the hosts. I’ve also enjoyed Felicitation which is Felicia Day’s podcast as well as the improv podcast that she is on called Voyage to the Stars.

  4. LaurieF says:

Love podcasts. I listen to many different ones but in the last couple of months I’ve started listening to The Dollop, interesting and funny!

  5. Avital Ordan says:

Binging on “Adam Ruins Everything” which is smart and thoughtful and fun to listen to.

  6. Anna N says:

    The podcast The Dream!

  7. Miss Louisa says:

I listen to your podcast and occasionally ones from npr, but mostly this year I listened to Pandora. I think if they go through my listening hours, they will find a big focus on Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Every time the news was too much, I flipped to that.

  8. Jiobal says:

I actually don’t like audiobooks very much; I prefer music. My favourite thing this year was Philip Glass’ Sathagraya – amazing music; as an opera totally bonkers.

  9. Janiec says:

Been listening to a lot of true crime podcasts and one I enjoyed was Root Of Evil.

  10. Violet Bick says:

Whenever I have trouble falling asleep, I find the combination “documentary” + “male British voice” does the trick, so I like listening to the National Archives podcast. (That, or Stephen Fry.)

Don’t get me wrong, I love documentaries. That’s how I learn history. For example, I’m so grateful for the review of “Maiden” on this website. Without it, I would never have learned of Tracy Edwards and the achievements of an extraordinary group of women. It’s a wonderful film. (It was reviewed here, wasn’t it? Because I searched for the review, but couldn’t find it. Maybe it was mentioned in a comment? I wish we could search comments. Well, however I learned of it, I’m thankful for the introduction to the film and to whoever wrote about it.)

  11. TamB. says:

I like audiobooks and enjoyed Sweep In Peace this year. I also like podcasts and have enjoyed episodes from Smart Bitches Trashy Books, Read Me Romance and BBC In Our Time.

    Thank you for the giveaway.

  12. Steffi says:

I rediscovered The Thrilling Adventure Hour again this year and realised I never actually finished listening to Sparks Nevada, so that’s pretty much high on my list 😀 Also the “Writing Excuses” Podcast is excellent for writers 🙂

  13. Kelsey C. says:

Audiobooks! I did a relisten of all of Ilona Andrews’ catalog and finished all of Darynda Jone’s Charley Davidson. Hoping in the new year to work my way through the Psy-Changeling series.

  14. Malin says:

I don’t have as much time to read anymore, so audio books are a great way to get through books while also doing chores or the like. I also enjoy the Smart Bitches podcast and Doctor Who fancast Verity.

  15. Trudy H. says:

I usually listen to music but recently discovered Lexicon Valley which looks at linguistics. It has talked about everything from the derivation of “darn” to how social media has impacted English and uses snippets from old show tunes and radio broadcasts as examples of how our usage of words has changed over time.

  16. Mamselli says:

My favorite listen this year was Philip Pullman’s new HDM book, The Secret Commonwealth, which I went through in a weekend even though it was almost 20 hours 😀 not a perfect book, but a near-perfect reading of the material.

  17. Jan says:

I have been trying to catch up with “Hardcore History” by Dan Carlin especially while walking. I could take the same route day after day and not see anything but the images created by him. Yesterday started listening to Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister Series while spending the day baking. Love that series.

  18. MaryK says:

I’ve been doing audiobooks so long I have an Audible legacy account. Before that I checked out cassettes and CDs from the library. It was the only way to survive my commute. Nowadays, the only way I get chores or exercising done is if I have an audiobook to keep me entertained.

This year I worked my way through almost all of Martha Wells audiobooks, some of them multiple times. I had to adopt a moratorium on listening to the MurderBot novellas so I wouldn’t burn out on them.

  19. Amy K says:

After the Thrones from the Ringer. A bunch of nerd-types broke down every episode of Game of Thrones. It was fun and interesting and sad to see it end.

  20. Amanda G. says:

I can only say thank goodness for podcasts and audiobooks when walking the dog. For podcasts, I am partial to games (Wait Wait from NPR and the like) and different angles on history.

The funny thing about audiobooks is that sometimes a book I just can’t get into printed is absolutely riveting as an audiobook. So, I try to listen audiobooks for series starters and books that might be a bit slower at the beginning.

  21. SandyH says:

I have been listening to Joanna Bourne’s Spymaster series. It is wonderful. I also enjoy podcasts such as The Oath by Chuck Rosenberg.

  22. MO says:

My favorite audiobook from this year is hands down The Lady from the Black Lagoon by Mallory O’Meara. The author narrates and it is part biography of the forgotten artist Millicent Patrick and part story of how sexist and corrupt Hollywood was in the 50’s and how little it has changed today.

  23. Alyssa says:

I really enjoyed discovering the Heaving Bousoms podcast. Im sad lnow that i listened through the entire backlist.

  24. I’ve been loving Molly Harper’s Mystic Bayou series of Audible originals!

  25. SandraL says:

I haven really enjoyed listening to Smart Bitches. But I also enjoy Spin Control (a knitting podcast), Writing Excuses, and a couple of spiritual ones.

    Happy Hanukkah!

  26. Natasha Rebello says:

Definitely podcasts! Specifically the Smart Podcast 🙂 I finally caught up on all the backlog episodes and I’m very happy about that. I keep meaning to get into audiobooks. But haven’t made the leap yet. Ebooks give me more control over how I read (re-reading a passage, skimming scenes that I find dull, etc)

  27. Marci says:

I was able to listen to audiobooks at my work and it made the time go much faster. My favorite listen this year was the audiobooks of The Expanse series. I discovered the tv series first because the SmartBitches recommended it. I loved it so much and was super excited to find out my library had all the books in digital audio.

  28. Susan Henderson-Utis says:

I love audiobooks and listen to them all the time, so narrowing down to just two is tough. But, if I have to pick, I’d say I really enjoyed listening to Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime, and Lindy West’s Shrill. It was great listening to these authors read their own stories.

  29. Brandie Ashe says:

This year I finally gave in to the wave of true crime podcasts. My favorite multi-car pod is Southern Fried True Crime; as for those that focus on one case, Cold and Dr. Death.

  30. Naomi says:

I’m currently relistening to the Psy-Changeling series, and my work music this week has been the Wailin’ Jennys.

  31. Andrea2 says:

I listen to audiobooks daily while driving to/from work, on errands, etc. I just finished Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On and Wayward Son, and have The Dark Days Deceit by Alison Goodman ready for my trip over the woods to Grandma’s house tomorrow. I also have Stella Riley’s Rockliffe series, read by Alex Wyndham ready for a second listen. Alex is a wonderful narrator.

  32. Jennifer Huppert says:

Two new podcasts which I have enjoyed listening to this yesr are Fated Mates and Shedunnit

  33. Dee Ernst says:

Tore through My Favorite Murder and Unspooled this year. Just finished the audiobook The Ninth House and enjoyed it very much. It’s getting harder to find good new music I like, so podcasts are stepping up.

  34. JoanneBB says:

I have been listening to actual play podcasts, somehow I find it very relaxing to listen to people play rpgs. Friends at the Table is very good and also considers elements like always identifying the pronouns of their characters and having the opportunity for player vetos on content.

  35. Escapeologist says:

SBTB podcast – this is an older episode but new to me this year and a keeper:

  38. rissatoo says:

I have a 1+ hour commute & recently started trying different podcasts on the recommendation of my brother. Haven’t got a favorite yet, but it’s a welcome change from the local news & music stations (and ALL their commercials)!

  39. Crcala says:

I am obsessed with podcasts. I have been loving “Hello From the Magic Tavern” podcast (which is a hilarious improv sci-fi podcast about a man who falls into a dimensional portal behind a Burger King in Chicago and finds himself in the magical land of Thune–trust me, you just have to listen to it) and “Extremities”, which is a non-fiction podcast about extreme locations. The first season was on the Pitcairn Islands and was fascinating!

  40. Lisa Boike says:

I spent about 6 months listening to David Copperfield 10-20 minutes at a time. I enjoyed it a lot.
