Happy December!
For those who had Thanksgiving, was it delicious? For those who didn’t, did you have a good Thursday?
In New England, we have some significant snow fall. I always love the first real snow of the season. The slushy aftermath? Not so much.

Frolic Media has an exclusive short story by historical romance author Amelia Grey. It’s a nice lunch/coffee break pick me up!

Sarah was quoted in this profile of the romance novel industry in Glamour! They also ran a couple other romance-inspired posts.

I may have already shared this, but oh well! Meet The Cat Reviewer on Twitter. It does what it says on the tin: reviews cats.
Wrexham cat. Ran away when I approached. Points knocked off for reticence, bad language and a candidly insulting bum display. But hey, it’s a cat and therefore excellent. 7/10 @thecatreviewer pic.twitter.com/ltq9dCLRaF

Trans Awareness Week was last month, but we could always use a reminder of the danger trans women, especially trans women of color, face on a daily basis.
The Trans Obituaries Project aims to shine a light on these lives lost due to violence, starting with trans women of color who have died in 2019.

I’m usually iffy on shapewear and generally suspicious of advertising, but I think the team behind this ad needs to be commended.

Don’t forget to share what super cool things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I saw a bit that ad on YouTube–the bit that erases any woman who happens to look like the Venus de Milo–and noped out pretty hard. Gave it another chance based on this rec and shockingly it gets even worse–misrepresenting the shape of the statue (an odd choice, given that we can actually see that it doesn’t look like they describe, it’s on the screen right there) in order to take a pot shot at hourglass-type bodies. Capitalism never tires of putting women down in order to sell stuff, does it. Not what I expect on this site, tbh.
@Ruth: Amanda here! How interesting as I viewed the ad much differently than you did. I even waded into the ad’s comments that I saw on Facebook and the company made it clear that their mission isn’t to shame bodies, but to help women with a boost of confidence when they need it, if they need it.
That’s how I interpreted the ad. I loved the variety of models they had and the message of how they want everyone to feel good in their skin, but they also realize what a battle that can be for people.
Of course, it’s still a capitalist ploy, but it was an ad that got my attention and seemed really fun.
Highly recommend the other Glamour article in the series about shooting a romance cover. I totally laughed out loud. This is how it starts:
At first I thought someone was shrieking. Commotion muffled the sound, yet the wail managed to break through the noise. But as I got deeper into the room, the cry became unmistakable: it was the howling of a wolf. “Don’t worry about that,” publicist Erin Glloway told me. “We put it on to help the model get into character.”
Totally puts cover snark in excellent perspective.
I Liked it, some women feel better using something like this. this ad doesn’t try to make you feel guilty doing it. I’m old enough to remember my mother in a girdle, tried one and all I could think of was it’s pressing on my kidneys.
It’s a weird ad. The statue doesn’t have exaggerated curves as they suggest, and it seems irrelevant to their product though it does give an excuse to use eye catching chalk makeup.
Choice of Games just released the first four games in their Heart’s Choice line. While most of CoG’s mainline games have romance subplots, Heart’s Choice puts romance front and center. While some of the games are gender- and orientation-locked, many allow you to play as non-binary and/or on the aro/ace spectrum. The four games are Pirate’s Pleasure (f/m, set in the Golden Age of Piracy), Jazz Age (any/m or f, set in 1920s New York City), Dawnfall (any/any, space opera), and All-World Pro Wrestling (m/m, modern setting).
