Hamster drama is so relatable. My daughter’s hamster escaped several times. There’s no thrill like setting an elaborate hamster trap in your home – FYI that’s a bucket with treats in it and some sort of rodent ladder so little Houdini can get in but not get out. Took a couple of days each time and I was SO worried for the little fur ball, and my sweet child’s feelings.

  2. Sandra says:

@Escapeologist: Our hamster drama was always compounded by the fact that we also had cats…. Now we have an escape rabbit, who has figured out how to open the door of the hutch. We named him Harry for Harry Houdini, but it turns out that Harry is actually a Harriet. (Apparently rabbit gender markers confuse even veterinarians.)

  3. DarienDG says:

My grandmother hated rodents of all kinds, and her shriek when an escaped hamster was spotted in her kitchen was priceless. But the love of grandparents can never be measured – when one of our hamsters escaped in the upstairs, and fell into the wall where we could hear him scratching in their downstairs bedroom, they let us cut the old lathe & plaster wall to get him out. The hamster was okay, and we knew our grandparents really loved us!

The hamster story — and all the retelling of tales it sparked — has truly been a balm.

So glad the southern humorists website is still up, it is an internet gem. I’ve found some keeper authors there over the years.

Build up – or take down – your classmates! Romance any of nine characters! Foil a criminal conspiracy – or cover it up for your own gain!
